Set in Burning Cove 1930’s California. A time of drug experimentation. An investigation into a new institute looking into paranormal dreams. Maggie Lodge has in the past being sent to an asylum as her family did not understand her gift. She has now hired PI Sam Sage to prove that murder might be involved with physic dreams. Both leads are feisty and quirky you will enjoy following them further. A nicely paced story will keep you gripped throughout.
Thank you NetGalley and (publisher, Little Brown Book Group UK) for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

I am a big JAK fan but have to say that When She Dreams left me a bit disappointed. Set in 1930s California, this follows the story of Maggie, who is a lucid dreamer and Sam, a PI. They meet when Maggie hires Sam to find out who is blackmailing her employer. What follows is lots of undercover work and some not-so-convincing villains.

While most of the author's female protagonists are feisty, Maggie borders on irritating (for me at least). In addition, the romantic track between Maggie and Sam seemed somewhat forced and there didn't seem to be much chemistry between them. The story itself is very similar to all of JAK's other 1930s books, which makes me think that perhaps a new era needs to be explored (the 18th century perhaps?).

I loved the setting of 1930's Hollywood as the Author returns to Burning Cove for her latest novel

Maggie Lodge works as an assistant to 'Aunt Cornelia' , a reclusive advice columnist -she needs to hire a PI to find out who is trying to blackmail her employer . Having interviewed many unsuitable PIs she is getting desperate and then she finds PI Sam Sage - at least he is sober and cleanly dressed
Maggie has her own secrets to hide , she suffers from terrible dreams , dreams that seem real , dreams that could see her committed to an asylum .
When they find a woman impersonating Aunt Cornelia ...... they soon discover death is close behind . Can they find the culprit whilst fighting their growing attraction ........ will Maggie's past come back to haunt her ?

This is yet another enjoyable , paranormal romance from the Author - full of twists and turns around every corner

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

A paranormal romantic suspense novel from Amanda Quick and if I’m being completely honest I felt the heroine’s participation in the paranormal aspect of When She Dreams was a bit meh. Having Maggie suffering from dreams so bad that her family actually had her committed to an asylum at one point was a bit like filler. I’ve read previous books in this series and this aspect was pivotal to the plot but here it felt like it was there as a way of introducing Maggie’s connection to one of the suspects. That said I really enjoyed the romantic suspense element. With murder and mystery, charlatans and blackmailers the plot was full of twists and turns . And while I loved the characters of Maggie and Sam I didn’t really feel there was any chemistry between them and their relationship was more like older brother/younger sister even if I did enjoy some of the banter between them. I give this book 3.5 stars

Burning Cove series is, to my shame, one that I haven't got the time and chance to start until now. I love the author's books and she is one of my favourites when it comes to historical romance novel since I started reading then in my teenage years.
Set in 1930, Maggie Lodge has to hire a private investigator to find out who is blackmailing her employer. Sam Sage takes on the case and their start is quite a bumpy one, but soon enough , they get to know each other more and deeper feelings develop while they get closer to solving the case.
As usual, there are lots of paranormal element in the story and the description of some of Maggie's dreams are well portraited and felt real.
I enjoyed the description of the era with all the glamorous lifestyle and the setting itself.
Beautiful setting, a dash of suspense and a slow burn romance.

This is the first book I’ve read in this series, though I’ve read a lot of the earlier works from the author. I was intrigued by the glamorous 1930s setting, which isn’t an era I usually read about. It’s primarily a romantic suspense but has some interesting paranormal elements too. I was fascinated by the concept of lucid dreaming and felt this really heightened the drama. There is plenty of suspense, action and mystery and what I would describe as a slow burn romance between Maggie and Sam. For me, the old world Hollywood setting and the unusual paranormal theme made this a unique and unforgettable read.

Just the cover alone drew me right in! I love anything to do with glamour and the old age of Hollywood. This book is set in the 1930s. I think it would make a great movie. Full of suspense, intrigue, glamour with great characters and a beautiful back drop. This book is perfection. It is like a period gossip girl. Will be sharing many more thoughts and a full review shortly. .
