I was very impressed and surprised by this book. It is a retelling of Nubian Gods, I have never read anything like it so that part was very cool.

The book tells the story of Onia and Ra. Onia is actually an Empress and she is supposed to return to her temple because her mother (who she never met) is dead. Ra is her guardian and a soon as he sees her he is attracted to her. Their Kan, whatever that might be, entices them to each other. Anyways when they reach the House of Anubis, they still have to uncover who killed Onia's mother and the reason she was murdered. They also have to survive as many people including Ra's father don't want her to succeed in being an Empress.

I was a bit confused because most of the retelling of the gods and goddesses is not explained. Like I feel like you need to know a little bit of this background or this mythology to understand. It is not basic, and hence I felt stupid at some parts since I couldn't really imagine what was going on.

I really liked the spice factor that the story has. It feeds off really well and it starts off as subtle yet the author writes in such a way that you can really feel the tension flowing out of the characters. And eventually when they finally kiss, it is mind blowing for them and for the reader.

I also really liked the characters. Ra, specially. He is very strong and protective, and I really found him alluring with the way he spoke. I found him very intellectual and smart, and that kept me on my toes. The whole mystery and adventure aspect was also very entertaining.

Thank you to Pleasure & Power Publishing as well as NetGalley for a copy of this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was a new adult book that promised sexy gods and ancient Egyptian magic and it definitely delivers!

Now orphan Onia is thrust into the world of Egyptian gods and goddess’ after finding out her absent mother was Ma’at, the goddess of justice and balance in the Hall.

Onia follows rugged and handsome Ra, of house Anubis, on a journey to the Hall after the death of her mother, leaving all passed souls lost until someone can reclaim the title.

This book is filled with betrayals both obvious and not and a great insight into a mythology lesser known to the fiction world. The spice in this book is great and on-page as it is labeled at a new adult novel. Ra’s bond with Onia is adorable and I’m always a sucker for the ‘would die for her’ trope!

All in all I rate this book a 3 out of 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

After reading this story I am very impressed with the style of writing presented. The world building was beautiful, and the two main characters chemistry was AMAZING. Ra is literally perfect I’m every way, and the slow burn was done incredibly. Why I’m giving it 3 stars however, is because I hated how Onia was written. I felt like she was portrayed as weak and fragile in some cases when she’s literally a goddess. She was always getting injured and was easily affected by others kan and it just bothered me. 3/5 stars.

This story take place in ancient Egypt, where god, goddess, demon, demoness, light creatures, dark creatures still around. Onia can see and read soul, it is her gift. What she doesnt know that She half human, her mother Ma'at goddess of Hall and justice of the soul, her father just human. She live in earth realm to safekeeping.

Her mother was murder so Onia must take her place, Ra son of Anubis come for her to protect and guard her. Onia journey beegins.

I love everything in this books! Soul conection between Onia and Ra bound from past life, the love journey in this life slowly build bassed of trust.  I new to this kind of book, many terms i dont understand, it is lovely if there are footnote or glossarium. I hope there more book in this series!

thank you to the author and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

my interest was sparked by the book's description. the author retold the story using egyptian mythology as a foundation. onia, a young woman with the gift of reading souls, is unaware of her true identity. in other words, they will be aware of their destiny when they die and go to the halls to be judged and face the scales. a guardian ra has been sent from the halls for her defense and return home. they had great chemistry together. essentially, endless pinning is what makes for a wonderful slow burn. here, their story is revealed, it's a scorching romance laced with supernatural horror and set in the mythology of ancient egypt. It was fun to read this, i enjoyed it so much.

I absolutely adore Egyptian mythology! I also love this cover. Loved the world building, the Gods and other characters!
The story follows Onia and Ra. Ra has come to bring her back to the Hall to take her mother's place. The chemistry and slow burn between them is 🔥. Ra is a jackal and Onia finds out she is more important than she realized. Though she's thrust into dangerous court politics and tested.
This has such great pacing for me and love the storytelling style.

Thank you netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.

Oh my stars, this was a fun fantasy! Picture this: you have a spicy bodyguard romance, but then you add gods and goddesses, magic, sexy jackal shifters, and a whole boatload of action. It was AWESOME. Fall of Souls is based off of Nubian mythology, which is so cool because we rarely get fantasies that stray from Greek mythology. Moreau introduces us to the basics of Nubian culture, while at the same weaving a beautiful story of power and love.

I adored Onia and Ra. They stole my heart and their interactions were *chef's kiss. Onia's journey of self-discovery was perfectly supported by Ra. He gave her the space and the tools to find her true self and her true power, while at the same time he was trying to deny just how yummy he found her to be. Some people might be turned off by how insta-lovey it feels at first (I was, not gonna lie) but PLEASE stick with it because it gets better. I promise!

And for those that hate the crazy cliffhangers, this book wraps up perfectly so that we get closure with some unanswered questions that'll lead nicely into the next book.

So if you like spicy romantasy with unique magic and strong character development, definitely check out Fall of Souls!!

Good read! The writing is awesome! The story is very intriguing. I wanted to keep reading until the book was finished! I am ignorant when it comes to Nubian gods and goddesses, so the introduction was awesome! For my own, uneducated, self, I would've loved a little background information on the gods and goddesses mentioned in the book. A little introduction at the beginning.

The Fall of Souls tells the story of Onia, who finds herself on her own and trying to make ends meet through reading others’ spirits with her kan. That is, until she meets Ra, and her kan is inexplicably called to his spirit. And Ra knows the secret of her heritage.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Did I miss stay up late to read it? Yes. Do I regret that? Absolutely not.

Onia is a strong (and stubborn!) FMC who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself. Despite the obstacles being thrown at her while she grieves the loss of her father, she remains fearless. Ra is a protector with an inner jackal who, despite his dysfunctional family, treats Onia with respect and compassion.

This is a reimagined Nubian retelling that is both unique in plot and storyline. I found this to be a fast-paced read and a perfect escape. I look forward to reading more from this author! Highly recommended if you’re a fantasy romance fan!

Special thanks to the Pleasure & Power Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. All thoughts in this review are honest and my own.

I was really excited to read this book because I have not read many books that reference Egyptian mythology and although I liked the writing style and the worldbuilding descriptions for me this book fell flat. It was slow and flat with no subplot and is very predictable. The romance needed to burn slower and the pace of the book needed to speed up. I also wish that the side characters could be fleshed out more as well as having their povs at times in order to use dramatic irony. I liked it enough that I would read the next book with my fingers crossed that it picks up enough for me to not dnf.

The Egyptian mythology book I didn't know I needed! Ra is the most incredible guardian to Onia! This book was not what I was expecting in the best way, the plot is exciting and different and the spice is just 🤤The *only* reason I gave this book 4.5 stars was because the slow burn anguish was almost too much 🥵 It ends on a slight cliffhanger….but this is only book one and I can't wait for two!!

This is the first time I read a book based on Egyptian mythology and I loved it! This made me want to research the myths and read more retellings. I wish it was longer! I hope there's more books in this universe.

The author does a great job of building interesting characters in a very small amount of time. There's so many side characters I'm wondering about after finishing the book. The romance was really good and took it's time building up. I liked all the character work as well. Will be looking forward to reading more from this author.

In this book you're following Onia's journey after her fathers death to find herself and watching her love story unfold. I enjoyed this book, the writing was well-done, the characters were easy to love or hate, and you felt sympathy for some of them even while knowing you shouldn't like them as a person which to me is pretty realistic for life in general. I do, however, wish that the story didn't feel so rushed. The pacing was a little off for me and I wish there had been more details about her training her kan or falling in love. Overall, 4 out of 5 though!

Fresh new voice in storytelling. I enjoyed the story R.A. Moreau chose to tell. Her characters and world building were fantastic.

What caught my eye was the cover. I read just a few lines of the blurb (I like going in blind) and got the message that it was Nubian mythology. Hook. Line. Sinker.

Ra is a jackal and gives off "wolf paranormal romance" vibes. Nice little twist to an old genre. If you love PNR, The Fall of Souls will be a must read. Hot, steamy romance without over doing it.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, so I could give an honest review.

The Fall of Souls is a fantasy romance based on Egyptian mythology.

After the death of her beloved father, Onia discovers she's the daughter of a goddess and must take her place in the hall. She travels there with the handsome Ra, eldest son of Annubis, who is her protector. The pair are pursued by jealous and vengeful gods and need to hide their growing love for each other in order to protect the hall and the balance of souls passing through.

The world building is this book is so good and unique and easy to follow. There's enough drama and tension with a smattering of betrayal thrown in too. I felt that the book was a bit too focused on Ra and Onia as there were plenty of other interesting characters but we don't really get the opportunity to get to know them. I'd be interested in knowing if there'll be further books.

Onia is a good FMC. She stands up for herself but still has a lot of heart. Ra is everything you'd expect from a love interest; brooding, possessive, understanding, turns into a deadly jackal when angry.

I thought this was a unique twist on the fantasy romance genre. A great read and I'd love to see more in the series.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc in return for an honest review.

3.5/5
I am a huge fan of mythology, and Egyptian mythology is where that love started, so I was very excited to read the synopsis of this book. Onia's story drew me in and the flow of gods and goddesses was exciting and surprising. I appreciated how detailed the author was in explaining each deity. The love story was fast in some ways but slow in others. AKA I needed more spice between them. But the chemistry was palatable and I really enjoyed this book.

Arc received from Netgalley for an honest review.

This story was such a pleasure to read from beginning to end.

In this book we follow Onia who slowly discovers the extent of her powers, learns more about herself, and finds romance along the way. She meets Ra when in need of help, and as he protects her along a journey they take together, something blossoms between them.

I knew from the moment I started reading that the writing style worked well for me. It was easy to consume and flowed really well. Alongside the writing we have the characters. I loved so many of them, going from our main characters Ra and Onia, to side characters like Abraxas (loved that guy). Despite the quick shift in the romance halfway through that slightly threw me off, I still liked the relationship and cheered them on while the steady tension between them built.

If you like reimagining's of mythos with steamy romance, a diverse cast of characters, tattooed and protective men with sprinkles of magic, then pick this up. It releases on December 19th and I hope to see it in peoples hands near the end of the month.

Wishing the best to R. A. Moreau with her debut, and look forward to reading more books by her in the future.

Age rating: 18+

Rating: 4/5 stars

I loved this book. The dual POV’s were well done and really helped to explain everything that was going on. This book is a fantasy romance but it’s so much more than that. It is definitely open door levels of spicy so so keep that in mind if things like that make you uncomfortable. There is a murder mystery, a literal fight for human souls, good vs evil, gods at war with one another and soul mates with forbidden romance.

Thank you @netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Trigger warnings: there is some mention of abuse, kidnapping, violence, grief

Onia is a Nubian woman yearning for her true identity, who also has the ability to read people's souls. Ra, a deity and son of Anubis, is assigned to be her guardian and bring her to her rightful home as Empress of the Hall, the place of judgement for all souls. Their connection is immediate and strong, yet their duty forces them to fight against it. Thrust into the strange and treacherous world of the gods and their politics, Onia discovers her true heritage and must forge a new path - somehow with Ra by her side.

As a lover of mythology, I knew this would be right up my alley; however this is a wonderfully different world that I have yet to explore in books. Moreau's universe of the Nubian gods is lush and rich, the characters distinct and complex. The building of Onia and Ra's relationship is so satisfying, and they are main characters you can't help but root for. I was very fortunately given this as an ARC - and I'm so glad! I was so impressed with this novel and while I know Book 1 isn't technically out yet, I'm already eagerly awaiting book 2.

It was a different read than what I’d usually pick. Honestly, it was a bit too slow for my focus, but With that being said, the story itself was written beautifully. Descriptive imagery used to help your imagination create a visual aid, emotional connections with the characters and impactful moments from their development, a slow burn romance that gives you the desire to know more.
I love that the storyline is Mythology based. Definitely one of my top favorite types of reads.
