This is a gripping fast paced thriller. The characters are well developed. The ending was shocking. I didn’t expect it.

A bit of a slow burn this one but overall a good thriller with a twist at the end! The story flips between past and present but is well written and easy to follow. I didn’t love the characters which always makes it more difficult for me to love a book but an enjoyable read nonetheless. Thanks netgalley!

This book was right down my alley! The beginning started off a bit slow for me! But like many others it quickly picked up the pace and before I knew it I was done with this great thriller!
Really enjoyed this book! Thanks NetGalley Publishers and author for this great advanced readers copy

A decent read without being spectacular.
Kept my interest although I did see through the storyline about 75% of the way through it.
I liked the way the chapters flipped between the before and now.
An easy read however and one which it is possible to complete in a couple of evenings.

There was a fair amount of intrigue in this book, and it wasn’t a bad read, but I did guess what was going on and found that a bit disappointing. This is a new author to me, and I will be looking out for more books from her soon.

Bella is happily married to Jack and they have two children together. The book switches between the past and the present in order to build up to the dark, surprising ending. Whilst at uni Bella meets Lawrence and soon ends up going out with him, their relationship quickly becomes too intense on Lawrence's part and he can't cope when they split. He begins to stalk her and eventually kidnaps her and holds her prisoner in the basement of her home.

Fast forward twenty years and Lawrence has been released from prison, as you can imagine this begins to put a strain on Bella s mental health and she sees Lawrence everywhere- the problem is no one believes her, even Jack and her sister. Then Bella ends up in the same situation again drugged, and held prisoner in basement of the house, surely someone will come to rescue her!! Or can she manage to free herself again? The problem is both the children are away and she's told Jack that she needs some time alone this weekend (so he's staying at a hotel). She not really in speaking terms with her sister so who will come? The ending is quite a surprise!!

Loved this book highly recommend especially if you like SJ Watson! Will be getting friends and family to read it. Can imagine this being adapted for screen and would love to see it!!! Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me the opportunity to read this book it definitely doesn't disappoint. I am looking forward to reading more from Jacqueline.

A good thriller with an unexpected twist at the end. Bella asks Jack for some time apart, leaving a message on his voicemail. Previously she had been abducted and imprisoned by Lawrence who has recently come out of prison. When she is imprisoned again in the same way it seems like history is repeating itself. The story flips between past and present to explain the build up to the event. A really good ending to this interesting book.

Bella has the perfect life with her husband Jack and their two children – until the ex who stalked her years ago is released from prison. Why is she leaving a message for Jack to say she needs the weekend alone? What is going on?

This book was easy to get into, easy to read, and although I did guess some of the twists, iit didn’t spoil my enjoyment, I needed to keep reading to see if I was right.

Thank you to net galley and the publishers for this arc, I will definitely be looking for more books by Jaqueline Grima to rad in future.

It took me a while to get into this book and I found the first half slow but I persevered with it and it had a real twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting although did work out part of it.

Bella is happily married to her husband of fifteen years, so why is she leaving him a voicemail telling him to stay away for the weekend?
Bella still struggles after being imprisoned in her basement twenty years ago by Lawrence Knox. He’s recently been released from prison and Bella seems more paranoid than ever. She thinks he’s stalking her again, despite the authorities telling her he’s living in a different city and hasn’t been anywhere near her.

I got into the story quite quickly and liked the short chapters. The story has a dual timeline of the six weeks leading up to the present day and the present day.

I didn’t like any of the characters in the book, apart from Jazz.

Initially, I found the book to be quite well paced, but about 1/3 of the way through it started to drag a bit. I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t really like Bella but I found her irritating and didn’t warm to her at all.

I had my suspicions and theories about certain characters and was so disappointed to have guessed correctly. The big twist was pretty underwhelming for me. I also found it a bit too far-fetched.
I appreciate the author has come up with a different idea for the story but it was a bit predictable for me.

Overall, the book was OK but it didn’t keep me gripped. It’s worth a read but I wouldn’t be recommending it.

2.5 stars rounded to 3.

Thanks to HQ Stories and NetGalley for my copy to review.

Gripping, tormenting and tense, Jacqueline Grima's, The Weekend Alone is well worth a look. It features Bella who was held hostage in her family's basement when she was a young woman. It owns a credible set of characters and it's dramatic and suspenseful.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

Thank you for the chance to read and review this book.
I haven’t read for a few months, as the last two books I started reading just didn’t inspire me, and actually put me off reading. So, this book had it’s work cut out.!
It turned out to be just what I needed - easy to get into, easy to read, and suspense to keep me going. I did guess some of the twists, but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of continuing to the end.
Thank you for getting me back into reading again.

A gripping thriller with unexpected twists and a feeling of doom! It will keep you hooked until the end!
Bella asks Jack for some time apart, leaving a message on his voicemail. She had previously been kidnapped by Lawrence, who has recently been released from prison. Now, she is being held again against her will. How has history repeated itself?
The plot twists and turns from past to present, as Bella's terror has her questioning her grip on reality.
Although a bit repetitive, the book shows her fear and the terror that it happened again. How will Bella escape?
It's great for thriller fans, with a powerful ending!
