Return of the badass female pirate, Alosa? I'm in.
Tricia's writing was once again intoxicating. She has this way with words that makes pausing your reading experience very difficult. The classic 'just one more page, one more chapter' is entirely embodied in this duology.
We jump back into the challenge of completing the mysterious map, leading to a tense journey. The power Alosa holds is hard-earned and respected among her crew members. Her difficult relationship with her father provides further motivation for her to prove herself. And the uncompleted map is proof of this. It was really interesting seeing her siren powers through this book aswell, Alosa's internal battle between her humanity and supernatural abilities is a constant concern for her.
Jumping into this second book was like a warm blanket: a comfort and ease Levenseller creates in this adventurous world.
Between the fast-paced plot, the banter between Alosa and Riden and the fantastic writing by Levenseller, this creates a brilliant YA adventure book. The loyalty and found family is wonderful. I think this is really important for Alosa as her relationship with her father is almost transactional. If she succeeds he praises her, even shows some affection but he's a viper if she does not please him. Seeing loyal friends surround her, providing constant reassurance and support is an amazing message to send to young readers: even if you have a tricky and difficult family dynamic, friends can provide what you've been missing.
Being given the opportunity not just to review the first book, but the second aswell was amazing, and I'm truly grateful. Thank you so much!

There’s not much I can tell about the plot of this book without giving it away. It starts off right after the ending of the first one “Daughter of the Pirate King” there’s a third book in this series but it is a spin-off of sorts that involve two side characters from the main story which actually ends here in this book.

Our heroine, pirate captain Alosa learns something about her father at the beginning of the book that has to do with the siren side of herself and the reason why the pirate king is immune to the songs of the sirens. This creates a conflict between the two and from then on the distance between them only grows, especially when Alosa manages to free that hidden secret her father kept. Then their relationship becomes a hunting game and Alosa and her ship the “Ava-Lee” are the prey. But thankfully there is no other crew more united and more cohesive than the women and men in that ship.

The main theme of the series is, of course, friendship. How a team becomes perfect when friends become family and love. Alosa finds both aboard the “Ava-Lee”, her crew now includes her former captor Riden who has feelings for her and supports her no matter what. The feelings are returned, of course, but there’s one thing standing on their way before giving their relationship a future and that is trust. Both Alosa and Riden have trust issues due to difficult family backgrounds, but they’re determined to overcome their fears together because both of them are strong and their strengths combined, covering for each other’s weaknesses are the only real advantage they have against their enemies. Their trust, and the trust of the rest of the crew is what makes them victors in this battle.

I’ve enjoyed this book a lot although I have to say that it took time for me to start enjoying it because it isn’t until Alosa faces her father for the first time that it got me hooked. The first 30% or so of the book was slow and I didn’t know where the plot was heading. I guess the fact that the previous book had ended in a very uncertain position for the characters is what made the writer take her time and build the next story. There’s no world building there because that was settled in the first book, so the ship sails, and that’s pretty much it. The Alosa takes something from her father and runs away with it on her ship and the adventure really flows naturally. I loved Alosa and her crew, the ending was very satisfying and rewarding for all of my favorite characters. I loved them all, especially little Roslyn and her cute reckless spirit.

We pick up after the events of the first book and are all go from there. Alosa has a copy of all three parts of the map and is ready to celebrate this with her father, however, after finding out a dangerous and unforgiveable secret, she sets out to find the treasure, with her father hot on her heels. Can Alosa and her crew manage this job, even with their lives on its a risk they need to take.

I won't say too much on the actual story to avoid spoilers for this and also book one, but my heart was in my throat a lot of this book, lots of high stakes, love and loss!

Great follow up and I am so happy to hear we will be getting another book as well now as loved these characters and this world!

I adore this series. The characters, the setting and the story line. Really enjoyed the action in this one. Can't wait to read more!

This was an amazing continuation starting soon after the ending of daughter of the pirate King. I think that the description and storytelling of the book was better than the first. I also loved getting to know all the new characters such as the crew members. I would be very excited if another book came after this which was centred around the world of the sirens. But overall it was very enjoyable and worth reading.

All it took me to start this book after book 1, even if I was swamped with work, was 5 seconds. I couldn't hold back from knowing what was about to happen on Ava-Lee and to its crew.

Alosa is back with her crew to hunt the treasure for her father now that she has all the three pieces of the map. The only downside is she learns her dad’s long kept secret of her siren mother which put her every interaction with him into perspective. She does something that left him fuming and inevitably started the war with the pirate king.
Being at war with someone like her father only had two outcomes- she had to either come on top or she was not going to make it.

She was recklessly fighting for her crew at every turn of the ship. She had to keep them all alive and survive this war at any cost.

The tone of this book was grim compared to the first one. All cheer and humor was diluted given the circumstances.
She embraced her siren nature more in this book- a handy weapon that helped her in the sea and the war. She was still a demanding captain and pirate who had her crews best interests at heart.

Riden was mostly an anchor to her in this book. Even though I felt like they lacked stellar chemistry in the beginning, they did great together and understood each other well. He brought the best and the worst in her and kept her on her toes.

The best part about nautical stories were to see how people braved the sea. The route to the island was harsh and reading about every hurdle along the way to the treasure island kept me on edge.

Overall, this was a satisfying sequel to book 1. The last few chapters could have gone slower but apart from that it was a good adventure to be on with pirates, sirens, and all.

Thanks for Pushkin Press for the DRC!!

This was a fantastic read and a really great follow on story to Daughter of the Pirate King. I personally don’t think it would be enjoyed as much if read as a stand-alone as the story develops from the first book. All the characters were sharply written and it was a rip-roaring adventure to enjoy. Looking forward to the last part. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a review copy of this book.

Amazing follow up to book one! From the start there was action, peril, drama and a bit of romance thrown in too! I read this in two days as I loved it so much and just had to know what was going to happen next! I enjoyed the siren side coming out too and how that added into the narrative.
Overall a great pirate adventure!

This was such an amazing book, it kept me on the edge of my seat I enjoyed the jeopardy, I was constantly nervous over what the outcome would be. The action scenes were written so well and the twists were unexpected, the betrayal throughout was heartbreaking as what she once knew disappeared in a split second. It felt fuelled by pure emotion, especially Alosa's relationship with her mother. The battle Alosa had within herself over the two sides of her nature, Siren and human, added so much depth and eventually she found a compromise. I loved the love interest Riden he dealt with his own horrors with his father, they had such a beautiful relationship throughout the book if a bit rocky.

This was such a fun read. A light, quick fantasy that more than lived up to its predecessor. Where Daughter of the Pirate King saw MC Alosa - half Siren, half human - infiltrating on a quest for a map that led to the fabled Isla de Chanta (where the sirens live), Daughter of the Siren Queen focuses on Alosa aboard her own ship with her own crew. I loved this dynamic because it was a perfect example of 'found family', besides it's so nice to see a ship crewed almost entirely by women rather than have the token female pirate which is so often the case in these types of fantasy novels. We already know from that historically there were far more women in the navy and working as pirates than typical history would lead us to believe. (It was illegal for a woman to sign a ship's register as a crew member so areas where most jobs were at sea had a number of women who signed on under male names, thus erasing their identities from history.) Those who are bored of leading ladies who are 'not like the other girls' will find plenty to like here. There is romance but the book focuses just as much on friendships and choosing your own family.

Meanwhile, Alosa makes a discovery about her father that destroys the last of her regard for him, plunging herself and her crew into a dangerous sea faring adventure, where everything rests on Alosa wrestling with her own duel nature and gaining a measure of control. Riden made an excellent foil for her and the Pirate King was a suitably villainous antagonist.

Highly recommend this fast paced age of sail fantasy. (I'll even forgive the use of 'Crow's Nest')

Wonderfully written, entertaining fantasy. Alosa is back causing mayhem and trying to do the right thing for her crew and friends. Pirates, romance, friendship, humour bound up in fast paced action on the high seas and a bit of hate and death thrown in. This is a story of a young women. She would say of herself first and foremost a pirate who can definitely look after herself. When she finds her cruel father, the Pirate King has been lying to her and only wants her for her siren’s voice, she won’t rest until he is defeated. Or die while trying from a sword or a helpfully irksome and caring crew who want to find her someone she can love. Thank you to Pushkin Press and NetGalley for the ARC. 3.5 stars
I expressed my main thoughts in the first book review here on goodreads. I must admit that I liked this second book a little less than the first one which I found impossible to put down. Simply the story for me was too simple and without enough obstacles for the protagonist, but given that the thing that interested me most was the romance I can't complain because that didn't disappoint at all.
Still recommended for the love story.

Btw, the new cover is gorgeous, a piece of art!

The second book of Pirate Captain Alosa and her female crew's adventures Yay... Another adventure book I truly love from Tricia Levenseller. The plotline is thickening and far more exciting than the first one. Especially the treasure hunt part and epic sea wars with all those fires ship maneuvers and mermaid attacks. The story also offer real struggles and emotional loss.

Alosa and Riden duet are really cool and brimming with chemistry. They both are described as badass and have questionable mortality but also have a heart and deep care for those around them. The supporting characters are fun to watch and memorable.

The romance is still in the YA corridor, but the tensions is guaranteed to make the reader giddy with excitements. In short, this pirate adventure book is super fun and i can't put it down whole night. But no worries the story is strong but still easy to follow expecially for readers who are just trying to read the fantasy genre.

Thank you Netgalley and Pushkin Children's Books for provided my copy. My thoughts are my own.

Headlines:
Deeper characterisation
Fast-paced fun feel continued

I really enjoyed this second installment in the series and I didn't expect the deeper feels that we got in this one. I found book one to be super fun, but while this kept a fun element, there were emotional difficulties and connections that just made it more. Alosa and Riden had significant character development and connection and I was all here for that.

As you might expect from book one, the father element was complex in this book and I challenge anyone to be a fan of the pirate king. That said, you can see from the title that the siren queen is part of this story, I won't elaborate but I loved how this developed.

Once again, there were some parts of the story that were rather gory, bloodthirst and brutal. The fast-pace tends to make this feel glossed over, but I found those elements pretty stark on the horizon.

I'm pleased to see that there's another book to come in this series and I'm here for it.

This was the perfect end to the duology, though I am very sad it's over!

I absolutely love Trica Levenseller's writing, it's so easy to read and flows really well. The plot is fast-paced, full of action as well as twists and turns that keep you engaged from start to finish. The whole siren aspect of the plot was so interesting and the lore had so much depth (as did the world-building).

I loved Alosa in the first book and still do! She is the badass, powerful main character I didn't know I was missing till I read this duology. And the romance between her and Riden is just perfection!

If you love pirates, action and romance, you need to read this duology! It's short and fast paced and I promise it will not disappoint!

Unfortunately, this book was even worse than the first one. The main character was just a save-me-girl instead of a fierce and independent pirate. The romance was even worse, very cringy.

This duology lives rent free in my head! Its flipping fantastic!!

Who doesn't live pirates, enemies to lovers, found family and Sirens?!?

'I may not have been born in the sea, but I was born to rule it.
I am the daughter of the siren queen.'

Alosa is back and has the three pieces of the map but she also discovers a secret her father has been hiding. Then Alosa and her crew find themselves in a deadly race for the treasure.....

It was action packed, fun and I loved the family that Alosa and Im not ashamed to say that my fave was Riden, he is just delish!

I devoured both books in this duology in one day! TL writes such compelling female leads that hook you in and make you fall in love. Alosa may be a despicable pirate at times, but she hasn't let her upbringing change who she is or distort her sense of morality. She's fiercely loyal and will do anything for those she cares about, and I wish I could read more about her!
