The Situationship was SO GOOD! The themes and contents of the book are incredibly current and appealing to a modern society of serial-swipers, and the ease behind the lack of commitment that comes with ‘talking stages’ and situationships

I really enjoyed how refreshing and relatable this story is. I also love that it’s about more than just the romance it’s about Tia herself and the difficulties that she and many women like her face. Everything flowed well and the writing was easy to read and follow and the humor and dialogue between the characters was well written and not cringe! This was a solid 4 star read for me ☺️

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Rumble explores the perils of casual dating in this novel, while at the same time touching on institutional racism and careerism through the lives of young people in London. While I didn't always get on with the writing style, the narrative flowed well and I did enjoy reading it, though I was more interested in the subplot about Tia's career than her lovelife! A 3.5.

I did enjoy this book. It was a fun read and to be honest my favourite part was how it ended - rather than focus on the exhausting drama of modern dating, it dealt with some serious issues and it was interesting to see how Tia responded to this. A great summer read!
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC.

Following the life of Tia as she navigates the tribulations of life in your twenties, and particularly, the trials of the modern dating scene.

This is a really great, funny, rom com read - Merky Books’ first rom com at that. The humour is perfect for a twenty-something protagonist, but it also tackles the very real aspects of life: career issues, structural racism, friendship and family strains.

I also loved how this wasn’t just a completely romantic focused rom com. You really get into Tia finding and supporting herself, and focusing on her self-worth as opposed to hauling everything she has and defining herself with her relationships.

A quality debut from Rumble and a great launch from Merky. I can’t wait for more!

I would say this book is the perfect summer read and I was glad to get into it just as the sun reappeared for a few days! I'm probably not in the target age range for this book (I'm over 40), but I enjoyed it all the same. I have no experience of online or app dating but still found it funny and pretty relatable and I loved the characters. There's a bit of a cliffhanger at the end so I'm hoping this means there's a follow up coming. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an easy to read, funny romcom.
Thanks to Merky Books, Taylor Dior Rumble and NetGalley for the arc.

This was an amazingly funny read - one that is heavily relatable to anyone who has been through the toils of online apps and dating.

I absolutely loved the characters, and the depth that Rumble gives each one. Harking back to Bridget Jones, Tia is a brilliantly charismatic character who I loved as the main character. She's funny, she's energetic and most importantly, she's brutally honest about her life.

As a romcom, it was the perfect read for the 'sort-of' summer we ended up with, and I LOVED how empowering the aspects of Tia's life and the way she navigates her solutions was. Overall, Rumble's written an incredible book and I can't wait to read more in the future!

'The Situationship' is a contemporary fiction showing the reality of modern dating.

It follows the story of Tia, a young black Londoner, finding her footing within the present-day dating scene. Alongside that, Tia is navigating her job within the journalism industry.

Very refreshing read about finding the right path for yourself amongst the bustle and hustle of everyday life!

Sorry I just could not get into this book and found it a real struggle to get beyond the first few chapters. The characters didn't really grab my attention and I was rather irritated by the constant references to people "kissing their teeth"!!

If I had to read the phrase 'kiss my teeth' one more time I think I would of thrown my kindle. This is not accurate to have adults in their mid twenties talk. very immature

"The Situationship" by Taylor-Dior Rumble is a romantic comedy that will have readers laughing, crying, and rooting for Tia, the protagonist, as she navigates the complexities of modern dating. The book is a perfect blend of humour, heart, and relatability that will leave readers feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

Tia is a young woman who is searching for something real after being let down by the love of her life. When she connects with Nate on a dating app, she thinks she might have found the real thing, but there's a catch - they haven't had "The Talk" yet. The book explores the challenges of modern dating, where everyone is competing over who cares the least, and how difficult it can be to lay your cards on the table and communicate your true feelings.

The writing in "The Situationship" is witty, engaging, and authentic. Rumble has a talent for capturing the nuances of relationships and the complexities of human emotions. The pacing of the story is perfect, and readers will find themselves eagerly turning the pages to see what happens next.

One of the strengths of the book is how it tackles serious issues like communication and vulnerability in a lighthearted and entertaining way. Readers will relate to Tia's fears and insecurities and will root for her as she learns to open up and take risks in pursuit of something real.

Overall, "The Situationship" is a delightful and heartwarming read that will leave readers with a smile on their face. It's a fun and engaging story that explores the power of love and connection in a relatable and authentic way. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good rom-com or is looking for a feel-good read.

I give "The Situationship" a solid 5 out of 5 rating and can't wait to see what Taylor-Dior Rumble writes next!

I was sent this book by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, so here it is.

Unfortunately, I did not finish this book. I found the characters to be a bit too immature for a group of people supposedly in their mid-to-late twenties and I found them to be a bit irritating in the few chapters I did read. It was billed as a 'rom-com' but I found it to be anything but. It's not comedy either. It was just a bit too bland for me and, for that, I can only give it one star for effort.

Sorry.

I enjoyed this book.
I found it a little frustrating to read in pats because of the slang it kind of annoyed me but it was easy to read.
I like Tia as a character
A good holiday read

i love a good women’s fiction intermixed with romance. the main character was self-aware and quirky in an endearing way. the title is a dead giveaway about how the story will progress, but it was still enjoyable nonetheless.

First and foremost, I enjoyed reading a book with Tia, a black woman, as the lead character. She had a lot of difficulty dating, so it was highly relevant. Nate, whom she eventually meets, is all she could want—until he isn't. I appreciated how Tia concentrated on writing an article regarding the prejudice towards black women's hair. The resolution, in which Tia finds a new career and has the chance to travel to the USA after experiencing work burnout, was welcome. I only gave the narrative three stars since it took me months to finish, and portions of the language didn't flow well. Tia was a very genuine character, and it was beautiful to witness her daily triumphs and setbacks. I was rooting for her to refuse to compromise and to demand what she wanted as I cringed for her when dating went wrong. Tia is strong and figuring out what she's worth, and I was so glad for her finding her path and giving up on men who aren't worth her time. Had Tia's coworker and sort-of competitor Petra delivered the gut punch as I had foreseen, I honestly believe I would have melted. However, Tia is working out what she's worth. She is a legend, and reading this book was a pleasure.

What a mixed bag of a book, didn't really seem to know where it was going yet I enjoyed it but at times found it hard to continue to read.

⭐⭐⭐. I was between 2.5 and a 3.
I felt as though this book doesn't know what it's target age range is. At first I thought young adult, but then there's graphic sexual scenes. Lots of slang, and it's written in a way that I felt was quite difficult to get into and relate to.
I thought it was going to give more, so a slight disappointment.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

I loved this book, and Tia was really relatable. I found it really easy to read, enjoyable, and I got through it in a couple of days!! I would absolutely recommend for anyone going on holiday and wanting a nice holiday book!

This was not a book I particularly enjoyed. I felt the flow was uneven and not always easy to follow. There were some good parts with Tia asserting herself and producing an article about black women’s hair. She is clearly a very capable person.
What does “kissed her teeth” mean, it was repeated continuously!! Too much badly imposed slang throughout.
However, her love life was very tedious to follow and listening to the inane chatter throughout. Maybe it would be more inviting to the younger generation.

For fans of Bolu Babalola, Rye Lane, and The Bold Type, it’s clever, full of workplace frustration, [redacted] boys, and reliable friends and mentors. Enjoyed a lot! The Situationship has a cinematic quality that makes you think of classic films like The Holiday, but provides a fresh Black British perspective we don't generally get.

*Spoilers*: I absolutely loved that we don't actually get a romantic resolution because that's not right for either character and that Tia is happy with that.
