**Spoilers for book 1**
Book 2 of this series (at least I hope it becomes one) looks at what happens after the King is killed and Alizeh is taken to Tulan, whilst the Prince is trying to work out who she was and how to proceed with his kingdom. This book was immersive, with the different scenes and creatures, it creates an amazing picture in your mind. I love the enemies to lovers to enemies vibes throughout, and the mysteries that are only just starting to have answers. I can't wait for the next one.

This book had me hooked! I devoured it within one sitting 😅
Kamran or Cryus
I honestly don't know who I'm rooting for but I think I'm gonna have to go with Cryus cause he just gives me early Rhysand vibes 😩🥰
I'm going to need around 3-5 business days to get over the cliffhanger of an ending and I desperately need the next in the series 😭💞

Such a unique book, I loved the plot and oh my god the characters we're so amazing!! I definitely will be recommending it!!

I once again really enjoyed Mafi's writing and returning to Alizeh's story.
I'm still confused about the dragons but it's fine. This picks up a little before the first book finishes, opening with the confrontation between Cyrus and Kamran. This was very dramatic and the magic Cyrus displays before the fight's end is wholly unsettling.
Then we're whisked away to the kingdom of Tulan, the palace and the magic of this new city. I really loved this setting and I think in a lot of ways it was more fun than first book, which was admittedly most Alizeh getting mistreated.
Again we're back and forth between the goings-on with Alizeh and Kamran where they are. In some ways I felt like Kamran and Hazan in this book had their conflict and then it resolved fairly quickly. There was still some tension here and there but nothing quite like the confrontations between Alizeh and Cyrus.
Now, let's talk about these two. Cyrus appears cruel, the prince who killed his father to take the throne, who crashed the ball, killed Zaal and stole away with Alizeh after allying with Iblees. This was where Alizeh lost me a bit. In the first book she is strong, she is unreasonably and profoundly strong. This book's Alizeh felt a little more watered down. There was a lot of crying, which even Cyrus commented on — but as we established, he's not the softest cuddly toy in the pile. Then we had a big reveal from Cyrus about who Alizeh is to him and, while it was probably meant to soften him to readers so we cheered for his downfall a little less, I found it a bit of a let down. I almost wanted an unrepentant magic king who makes bad deals with evil deities, maybe next time.
All in all, it was another excellent sequel to a strong first book with excellent characters and a richly, magical world. This book isn't even officially out yet and I am ready for book 3. I need the, no doubt, dramatic and intense show down between Kamran and Cyrus and to see where and what Alizeh's decisions will lead and become.
