This is a sweet book about everlasting friendship that through pure encouragement from each other, creates the life that each woman wants and deserves. Jane was able to embrace her curves as beautiful and that her intelligence and success further enhanced how great she is as a person. Yes, Selwyn contributed but she did the work. Kathy took an abusive relationship and freed herself of all the guilt that came with jt. Annie stayed strong and went for what she wanted. This is an enjoyable read that coupled with the beautiful Caribbean nature, is a perfect beach read.
I've always wanted to go on a cruise and I'm delighted to have finally found a book that combines two of my great wishes- to go on a cruise and to see the Caribbean.
In my first Caroline's book, I loved reading about Jane, Kath and Ann who going on a cruise changes everything for them. Not only do we get to visit some beautiful islands via the ladies but they also get to meet people who become friends for life. I love watching the characters grow and become their own people with new dreams and confidence.
I'm now looking forward to being part of the blog tour for this book who I hope will make people smile.
Threw friends in their 60s all at big crossroads in their lives decide to have a wonderful holiday of a cruise over Christmas time. There were some good parts of the book that was rather funny. However I wasn't sold on the characters. I also wanted a bit more drama and a little less diva. I have thoroughly enjoyed other books by this author. But this one fell a little from the mark for me.
The Cruise by Caroline James is an easy feel good book, great for reading when you want to be transported to another place in your mind.
The characters are beautifully written and described, the location just stunning.
I really emerged myself in this book, it provided a really nice escapism.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and One More Chapter for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I am not a great reader of romantic comedy, but I really enjoy Caroline James’ books. Not just because the protagonists are ladies in their sixties having a fabulous time, but because everything about them and their adventures is so beautifully observed and the pathos and humour eased out.
In The Cruise three single friends (one widowed, one almost divorced and the other resolutely single) decide to head to the Caribbean for Christmas. I loved the descriptions of the islands and it was wonderful to be back in a Barbados I recognised, albeit through the pages of a book. Anne, Jane and Kath, and the supporting cast of characters are bound to make you smile, so book your cabin now.
Drama is not reserved for the young!!
3 friends in their early 60's, all at a crossroads in their lives, decide to take a cruise over the Christmas holidays. One is husband-hunting, another is hiding her true self due to lack of self-confidence, and another is a recent widow. I enjoyed the premise, and there were parts that were funny, but with the median age of this particular cruise being mid-60's-70, there should have been a lot less drama! These people acted like teenagers at times!
I think I would try another book by this author, but this one just didn't do much for me. It passed the time but nothing beyond that. I think people who enjoy cruising and are in this age-range (which I am) might identify with the characters and enjoy it more than I did.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
what an enjoyable read! having never read a book by this author before i didn’t know what to expect but i loved following the lives of jane, kath and ann aboard the diamond star. a fun filled trip for sure. will definitely look for more books by this author
Due to time constraints, I had to read this book over several different days, but in between reading, I kept thinking about the characters and couldn’t wait to get back to them, and their story! For me, that is the sign of an excellent novel.
I loved absolutely everything about all of the characters and their stories even Dickie (by the end). I have been on several cruises and really enjoyed going on one vicariously through this author’s eyes.
This author was new to me, and I am already downloading more of her books because she writes in a way that makes me keep reading and because I feel good at the end… What more could anyone want?
Oh my word Caroline, you've done it again, I couldn't put this down it was so good, following the adventures of Anne, Kath and Jane was brilliant and happy endings throughout and God bless the Captain
I found The Cruise to be most enjoyable. Three friends set sail on a festive Caribbean cruise leaving behind the heartache and disappointment of real life. Although they’re all in their sixties, they decide it’s time they did something for themselves. As Anne, Jane and Kath set said aboard the Diamond Star, it really could prove to be a memorable holiday. I really liked the three main characters and I found the whole novel to be heartwarming. It’s a tale of friendship that has lasted through the decades which I found hard to put down. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
What a fun journey these three women embark on, leaving their problems at home and setting off into the sun. One widowed, one unmarried, one almost divorced, all aged 63, but not ready to give up on life. I enjoyed seeing them experience new things, slowly revealing more about themselves and coming into their own as the cruise progresses. There is a great cast of minor characters too, each one brought vividly to life. I particularly loved Selwyn, discreetly scattering little handfuls of his dead wife's ashes around the Catibbean as he lets his old life go and embraces the new. If you enjoyed the author's previous novel, The Spa Break, you will love this one too. Girl power for the over sixties!
This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Friends go on a cruise looking for adventure. Three senior citizens hope their lives will change. The escapades of these three women are funny.. Their voices come alive on the pages. Thanks to the publisher and the author for this quick read. Curl up in a cozy chair with a warm blanket and be transported to the ship with these quirky characters.
