Started well but lost me along the way, sorry, not a book for me.

This book grabbed me immediately and I was addicted all the way through. A clever story with lots of atmosphere and darkness. Loved it. It didn't matter that I hadn't read the first one as I could work things out. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I quite enjoyed this crime mystery and I wanted to read to the end to find out what happened, but the further I got into the book, the more knotty the plot became, and I had even less idea what was going on. I found it difficult to warm to the lead character, which would make me hesitant to reach for another book from this series, despite enjoying the North Devon setting.

Gripping second instalment in the brilliant CSI Ally Dymond series, which begins with an elderly woman found wandering Exmoor, covered in blood and carrying a kitchen knife.

Ally is a CSI, a single mum and a domestic abuse survivor, living in a cabin in the woods with her teenage daughter who is recovering from serious injuries.

Although Ally is on compassionate leave, her tenacity and reputation for calling out corruption means she is a valuable resource for the new DI who has just arrived from London with no knowledge of the area or the officers; and once again, Ally and her loved ones are at the heart of the danger.

Ally in particular is such an interesting and compelling MC, but all the characters are all very well drawn and the complicated twisting plot is handled very well, without recourse to any absurd suspension of disbelief moments.

The second in a series featuring CSI Allly Dymond continues the story of her tangled life and relationships . While on compassionate leave she is asked by the new Detective Inspector for help with a murder which seems at first to be a straightforward case. As she digs deeper however the plot becomes more tangled and again involves her personally. This is a well plotted book with many twists and turns and a surprise ending. I would recommend reading the first book., Breakneck Point, first as this is really a continuation of Ally’s life albeit with a new investigation.
I very much look forward to the next in the series.

I found this to be a well paced police procedural There is plenty of action and intrigue to keep you hooked.

A gripping read that i couldn't put down. It was tense, atmospheric and mysterious and I was kept guessing all the way through

After the events in Breakneck Point, Ally is on compassionate leave and unsure of her future when the new DI, Harriet Moore, asks her opinion on a new case.

Apparently, in a catatonic state, Miriam Narracott was found walking Exmoor by a vacationing family while wielding a bloodied knife. When the police get to Slaughterhouse Farm, they find her oldest son Gabe dead, who had been brutally attacked.

Ally becomes involved with the investigation and conducts some independent research. Meanwhile, Megan, her daughter, is displeased with her mother's soft-spoken manner and wants her life back. Ally is pleased when she agrees to let her friend remain in the cabin with her.
The team's investigation appears to require them to dive into Miriam's and the family's pasts. Ally has a link to Gabe's brother, and he has a solid excuse for what happened that evening. They discover that their lives are intertwined with secrets as they dig deeper.
The former life of Miriam is also revealed to us, which unquestionably enhances the narrative.
I truly enjoyed this book and was on the verge of giving it five stars. I plan to think back on it when it is cold outside. This book's lack of absurd, suspension-of-belief-inducing plot twists is what I find most appealing about it. It is a complicated tale that is expertly handled and features outstanding characters.

I have not read a book by T.orr Munro before this book sounded interesting.

This is the second book in the series and I had not read the first however it was easy to get into and I didn't feel I didnt' know what was going on because of this.

An edge of the seat crime book, fast paced and quite dark in places.

Looking forward to reading more.

A woman is found wandering along a country lane. She is just waring a bloodstained nightie & is holding a bloody knife. She appears completely out of it but investigations lead to an old farmhouse where a man is found dead from stab wounds. CSI Ally Dymond is still on compassionate leave after her daughter's abduction but the new to the district DI wants to see if she can help. Ally is not flavour of the month with the local constabulary after being a whistle blower on corruption & unacceptable behaviour within that force. The case reveals lots of interwoven stories & characters. I enjoyed the first in the series & this one was as good. The author captures the setting & gives us a variety of believable characters. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Ally, who is on compassionate leave, is approached by the new DI for her assistance and Ally is drawn in. Things are not always what they seem and in this crime drama there are many twists and turns before the truth is apparent.
Highly recommended

The second book in the CSI Ally Dymond series has an impactful start and keeps the adrenaline pumping as the story progresses. The plot has many layers and twists that leave the reader disorientated and thinking, did that happen? Ally is a complex character with darkness, which, although understandable, does make her an unreliable narrator. A poignant element is running through this story, but the crime is gritty, and the sense of menace is evident in the criminal characters. The ending appears to leave Ally in a better place, but she still has secrets which may yet upend her world. It's a gripping thriller with a good setting and complex but believable characters. I like the well-described locations, the sensory imagery used to increase the suspense and tension, and the relationship interactions between the main protagonists.

Slaughterhouse Farm is the second book in the CSI Ally Dymond series. I have read and enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to this one. This instalment is a dark, fast paced thrill that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

What a cracker well deserving of its five from this had me absorbed from the first to the last page I really engaged with the writing style.

The author has created a suspenseful dramatic read full of complex likeable characters they have put together a powerful emotive plot that is woven together with a few twists along the way to reach a satisfying conclusion nothing about this book disappointed for me.

Late one night 72 year-old Miriam Narracott is found wandering Exmoor with a knife in her hands and covered in blood. When the body of her son Gabe is found on the kitchen floor of the farmhouse they shared, Miriam is the prime suspect for the murder, the only problem is that Miriam is unable to tell the detectives what actually happened on this fateful night.

CSI Ally Dymond is still on leave following the catastrophic events which took place in the first book in the series and we pretty much pick up Ally's life just a few short months after Breakneck Point ended, so that those who are familiar with Ally's story will understand her reticence about returning to work or of leaving her teenage daughter alone for long.

As with the first book, the story moves along at a cracking pace especially when a new DI approaches Ally for the expertise of her local knowledge and her ability to get right into the centre of the action. Slaughter House Farm is a tense and intricately plotted thriller which has everything I have come to enjoy in this author's books, there are twists and turns aplenty, more than enough secrets and sub-plots to keep you guessing, and at its heart is CSI Ally Dymond, a feisty investigator, who, regardless of her wish to live a quiet life seems to get swept up in intrigue and danger.

There is much to enjoy in this crime series, which has the possibility to run and run and whilst Slaughter House Farm can be read as a standalone, it does make sense to start with Breakneck Point.

This is another brilliant instalment to add to the Ally Dymond series. I absolutely adored the debut so this was a very welcome addition. I can safely say Munro hasn’t disappointed with this gem.

Ally is back and this is another gripping, addictive and unpredictable read. We revisit some great characters from the previous book and are introduced to many newbies which has been welcome.

Ally is on compassionate leave but assists with a murder investigation on a case near her. This begins a whole spiral of events and really let’s us to get to the nitty gritty. There are so many questionable characters in the pages of this one which make it really hard to predict who was guilty.

Slaughterhouse Farm is filled with twists and turns. I’ve been completely unable to predict how this would play out and Munro has really managed to pull the ground from under me.

I have felt as though I have been watching this one play out in front of me. This is credit to how well written this book is by the author. I have escaped to Slaughterhouse Farm and the events filling the pages.

This is perfectly paced, the plot unfolds weaving each intricate thread expertly to a jaw dropping conclusion. I have been so caught up in the pages of this one- I devoured the book in just one afternoon sitting.

This is a book that has been completely impossible to put down. It is another spectacular read from an author who should be on everyone’s TBR.

I will absolutely be recommending this book to anyone who listen. A book worthy of all the stars.

Yay, a second brilliant book to what I hope will be a nice long series (no pressure there!) it’s such a fresh take on the Crime genre with real characters with both good and bad, and that challenges the preconceptions of children in care. I love the way the plot turns, and each book has had its own unique way of styling the plot. Highly recommend, and will be sharing this with the 4,000 of our crime book group😊

This book is atmospheric and dark.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot line, as I did with the previous book.

I would definitely recommend this book to people who enjoy crime friction.

This book follows on from Breakneck Point, the first in the series involving CSI Ally Dymond.
Although I wasn’t sure where the series was heading after the first one, a lot of the questions were answered in this second outing.
I didn’t realise CSI’s had so much involvement in the investigating of the crime, most crime books focus on the detectives. It is nice to read a book from a different prospective.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next.
