I’ve been seeing author Daniel Hurst’s books making its way around social media these days, so you could just imagine my excitement when I received this ARC audiobook to one of his newest releases, “The Doctor’s Wife.”
This was an intense popcorn thriller that I couldn’t get enough of! So many secrets, so much deceit, and a plan for vengeance. This is a story told in two different POVs (first person) and dual timelines. We follow around Doctor Drew Devlin and his wife, Fern. Doctor Drew seems respectable, smart and charming, while Fern is a loving doctor’s wife with a perfect life. However, things aren’t ever as perfect as they seem! Drew and Fern are both very unlikable characters who cannot be trusted. That’s okay though, because it makes things that much more interesting.
Doctor Drew convinces Fern they should move away from the city and settle down in a small village about 200 miles away. Just wait until you find out why he wants to move and the secrets he’s hiding. Little does he know, Fern is not one to be underestimated. She knows more than he thinks and she has plans of her own. A domestic thriller that will captivate you as the layers slowly unravel and the juicy secrets are finally revealed.
What an entertaining story with some twists to keep you on edge. Although some of the twists were predictable and weren’t exactly mind-blowing, the journey to get there was both enjoyable and satisfying.
I’d also like to add that the narrators of this audiobook, Sarah Durham and David Wayman, did a wonderful job bringing “The Doctor’s Wife” to life.

Thank you Bookouture Audio, NetGalley, and Daniel Hurst for this ARC of “The Doctor’s Wife” in exchange for my honest review.

A true page turner!! Daniel Hurst latest psychological fiction thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to end.
Fern and Drew seem to have a picture perfect marriage. Until they don't.
When Drew suggest they move from Manchester to the quiet, tranquil town of Aberness for a slower pace of life, Fern reluctantly agrees. Or does she? Secrets, lies and deception quickly consume their relationship.
I could not stop listening to this book!! The twists are jaw dropping yet easy to follow. The ending packs a punch with an unexpected twist. I have discovered a new author!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my ALC. in exchange for my honest review.

Firstly thank you to @netgalley and @bookouture for this gripping audio ARC copy. This was such an exciting read and I was really drawn in by the stories and the characters. There was a couple of twists that I didn't see coming and made me want to keep on reading to see how it was all going to pan out. Really made me think how twisted some people are. I really enjoy Daniel’s books and this one didn't disappoint.
🌟🌟🌟🌟

Told from a dual perspective, that of Fern and her husband Drew. The plot see’s the couple give up the busy city life of Manchester for the quiet and remote village life, on the border of Scotland. Drew takes up post as the local GP, telling Fern the move there was to allow him to work less and see her more… not quite the full truth is it Drew?
This book was a fast paced read (or listen should I say) that I couldn’t stop once I’d started. An easy read with a good twisty plot where you were never quite sure where it was going.
From an audiobook side of things, it was refreshing to hear British accents for the characters that added to the authenticity of it (especially when I’ve listening to a lot of US based books recently) Very well performed.
I’d definitely recommend this to thriller lovers. Thank you to netgalley for the audiobook copy in exchange for an honest review

This is my first novel by Daniel Hurst, and in the end, I was pleasantly entertained. The story itself is short, fast-paced, and engaging. There are a few twists and turns along the way that make this domestic thriller a fun page-turner. While some who read this might roll their eyes and say something along the lines of, "Oh, I saw the twist coming from a mile away," the simplicity of the plot did not deter me from enjoying the ride.
Thank you NetGalley and Daniel Hurst for sharing an ARC of the book with me in exchange for an honest review.

Book Title: The Doctor’s Wife
Author: Daniel Hurst
Narrator: Sarah Durham and David Wayman
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Domestic Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: January 31, 2023
My Rating: 4,2 Stars
Story it told from the POV of Drew Devlin, the doctor, and Fern Devlin, the Doctor’s wife.
The couple have been married for some time and just moved from Manchester to a small village in Arberness, Scotland. Fern has always been a city girl but agrees to move as Drew has just been hired as the village doctor and this move is something he wants.
But things are not quite what they seem and Fern is not all that naïve.
Hmm Does Drew have another reason for the move!
(Well not a big secret as Fern, as well as readers know rather quickly. ~-BTW: Doctor Drew‘s mid-life crisis has turned him into a teenager whose hormones are out of control!
Audiobook narrators Sarah Durham and David Wayman are awesome in their performance of these characters!
Story seemed somewhat predictable - lol ~ That Daniel Hurst never disappoints!
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 31, 2023

I always enjoy books by Daniel Hurst and this was no exception. The narrators did a brilliant job bringing the story to life! The twists and turns were great and I will definitely read more by him in the future.

This starts off with the discovery of Doctor Drew Devlin's body along the beach. Then we get introduced to his wife Fern, whom begins to tell her story. We learn that Drew is not a very honest person and is not faithful to his wife. Two weeks ago Drew and Fern made the move to Arberness, Scotland, a small village along the beach. This was supposed to be a fresh start for the both of them but Fern knows her husband is lying, once again.
This was my first read by this author and won't be my last. Starting out I figured out one of the twists pretty quickly and was a little frustrated because of it, but this ended up being so much more than I expected. There isn't a lot of suspense but the interesting story line and dry humor made up for that. Definitely check this one out!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Daniel Hurst for allowing me to listen to an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

The Doctor's Wife tells the story of Fern and Drew, a seemingly perfect couple who have just completed a move from the busy city of Manchester to a quiet and peaceful village just outside of Scotland. They meet and make friends with a couple who have recently undertaken a similar move, but is this really the first time they are meeting?
The story is told with both Fern and Drew as narrators. I particularly enjoyed the contrast between the two of them, each telling their account from their own point of view. The story is mainly told in the present, with a few flashbacks to 6 months previous, which helps to piece a few things together.
I really enjoyed this book and thought it was well written; the premise is fairly simple, but it was executed well. I loved the secrets and revelations that kept coming to light and I especially enjoyed the epilogue!

😱. Had me hooked from the beginning when it started off with a murder. I needed to find out what happened!! So many twist and love the story line. At the end to throw in Drew’s friend. Will the Doctors Wife get caught? Great book!

This book kept me hooked from start to finish with so many twists and turns. This was a fast paced read and a great domestic thriller. I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it.

You know you're in for a fantastic read when you pick up a Daniel Hurst book. The man is a genius!
The book has two main characters, Fern, the dutiful Doctor's Wife and Drew - the local GP who has fallen in love with another man's wife. He has an affair, for which he seems to feel no guilt about and is only with Fern because she knows undesirable things about him which he is worried will come out if he leaves her. He's fallen out of love with her and head over heels for another. An long affair proceeds eventually ending with the couple moving away.
Not to be discouraged, Drew decides it would be a good idea to up sticks and move from Manchester to Scotland to follow her, under the guise of a fresh start out of the hustle and bustle for him and Fern.
I don't want to give too much away but I really enjoyed this read, great characters, great narration and I listened in two days.
You know you're getting a great thriller when you pick up a Daniel Hurst book and I consider myself a lifelong fan now!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to read and review.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Since I haven't read a book by Daniel Hurst, I thought I would give this one a try! I love a psychological thriller with a doctor as the main character. Sarah Durham and David Wayman were amazing narrators. They both captured these two unlikable characters very well. I enjoyed the dual POVs and being able to get into both Fern and Drew's heads. The twists and secrets really kept my attention. This audiobook was about 7 hours, and I was able to finish it in a day and a half!

The Doctor’s Wife
Daniel Hurst
Dr. Drew and Fern Devlin recently relocated to the small village of Aberness. Fern had always lived in an urban setting but when her husband suggested they move to the small town because he needed a slower pace, she reluctantly agreed. They had been married for quite some time and appeared to have the perfect life. However, appearances can be deceiving. They purchased a large old home close to the beach. Drew smugly thought he had outsmarted his wife again. He and Alice had been having an affair until Alice ended it; she and her husband Rory moved to Aberness. Drew was devastated, which is why he wanted to move to Aberness, he refused to let Alice go. The two couples happened to meet at the local pub. Both Fern and Rory were excited to meet someone their own age and from Manchester. Drew pursues Alice again; she attempts to resist but he refuses to take no for an answer. Drew thinks he is above suspicion but Fern knows his little secrets. Drew knows he is wealthy, successful, attractive, charismatic, and clever, while he sees Fern as naive, boring, quiet, meek, and plain. In Drew’s mind the world revolves around him. But Drew does not recognize how foolish he is or how smart Fern is. Fern has a plan… for revenge.
This tale is told from dual points of view and from the past and present. Drew is not only sleazy but also a stalker! Alice isn’t much better. I found myself rooting for Fern. I suspected where the plot was going but that didn’t spoil it for me. This tale is disturbing; it is filled with suspense, deception, and betrayal. Kudos! To author Daniel Hurst.

This book was outstanding! I did listen to it and the readers were fantastic. The author had me completely hooked at the very beginning and all the way to the end! This needs to be on your TBR list!

Phew! What a journey. A great psychological thriller. This book will be difficult to review without giving anything away. My reflections may seem a little vague but it is so I don’t uncover an important piece of the plot.
Daniel Hurst is a very witty writer. He has developed three characters that are very unlikeable and full of poor choices. The plot keeps you guessing and holds your interest the whole time. Many times I changed who I was rooting for and whose sin outweighed the other.
Drew was at the top of the icky list. He was a narcissist, full of himself, and lacked a moral compass. He wanted what he wanted and he didn’t care who he hurt along the way. He thought he was so clever and untouchable.
Fern was smart and always one step ahead of her cheating husband. However, didn’t have many redeeming qualities that made her the one you would feel very sorry for.
Rory, I would have liked a little more developed but I think his character did just fine out in the shadows of Drew and Fern. I think leaving him a little underdeveloped kept him the wild card of the story.
I really enjoyed the dual points of view. The way Hurst unfolded each side of the story really kept you guessing. I loved feeling like I was in on a big secret and then seeing how it would unfold.
The epilogue….. absolute chef’s kiss.
Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.
Can’t wait to read another one by Daniel Hurst.
Thank you, NetGalley for the privilege of receiving an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was definitely an entertaining book!
It didn’t have very many twists and turns, but it definitely keeps you interested throughout.
I did like how things did start to unravel and you eventually started to dislike Fern. It is very interesting and a good story on what people are capable of!
I recommend this book as an audio book (I listened) or a book to read. Either way, it is bound to be entertaining.

Even in casual encounters the handsome and charming Drew introduces himself as ‘Doctor” (not so charming after all!).
He and his wife Fern have a seemingly perfect life when he suddenly decides he wants to move from the big city to the small village of Aberdeen. He says he was looking for a quieter life but is he really? Fern reluctantly agrees to the move and Drew considers himself lucky to have such a naïve wife.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Drew, Fern has her own plans for her new life in Aberdeen.
As with most of the author’s books this is a quick read with clever twists. The less I say about the plot, the better. (btw, do not read the synopsis on Goodreads as it gives key points away).
I won’t say more about the story but there are plenty of secrets along with the ironic twists the author is known for. I appreciate his books come in under 300 pages, and have no agendas, wordiness, or extra fluff. The focus isn’t on complicated character development, and it’s fun to sit back and be thoroughly entertained. For an engrossing page-turner, you can’t go wrong with this author.
I loved the epilogue which suggests one part of this couple just might get what he or she (no spoiler!) deserves.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinion may not be a popular one. I found it to be predictable and without the twists and turns that I enjoy in a suspense novel. I love when a story tugs on my emotions and this didn’t do that for me. I do appreciate the length of it, as I believe there must be an unwritten law that requires todays books to be 300+ pages.

Another book well outside my normal genre. Drew Devlin is a real piece of work and the way a cheater's brain works will never make sense to me and never be anything less than abuse. The way he blames Fern for what he does and how he rationalizes not just leaving her (which is 100% because he is a giant POS even outside his marriage).
Fern's husband is a doctor and he's cheating on her. She knows but he doesn't know that she knows. He even goes so far as to move them to the same town his mistress moved to in order go get away from him! What goes down after this is a masterpiece. That friggin' ending!!! Holy crap.
I really enjoyed this so thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio and the author Daniel Hurst for the opportunity to read and review this book.
