The idea for the book is good and started well for me. What would you do if the man you are about to marry appears on a #metoo list of predators? But it got bogged down in the middle and I struggled to finish it. A solid read but for me a bit of editing in the middle would have made it a stronger read. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

The List serves as a cautionary tale for our contemporary digital age, focusing on a high-profile couple who are social media sensations. Initially, there's empathy for Ola and Michael as they navigate their challenges. However, Ola's character often comes across as unlikable, displaying a lack of empathy. Michael, on the other hand, seems to be constantly striving to meet Ola's changing expectations, prompting frustration from the reader.

The narrative unfolds through the perspectives of both characters, offering insights into their respective experiences. Michael faces public scrutiny from the moment he starts a new job, while Ola is tasked with covering a sensational story involving her fiancé. The novel explores the complexities and emotions of a relationship thrust into the public eye, creating a thought-provoking narrative.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if it were in a bookshop. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

4 Stars from me

Such a clever little tale and very much 'of its time', The List is almost like a warning against the times we live in.

It centers on a couple who are social media darlings and very high profile. Although initially I felt for both Ola and Michael in their respective situations, so much of the time Ola was just a stone-cold bitch and I felt that (ignoring everything else) Michael was jumping through continual and ever-changing hoops in his efforts to 'prove' himself to her and I found myself repeatedly urging him to tell her where to stick it!

The book is told from the differing perspectives of each of them and it is impossible to imagine how either of them must feel - with Michael being so publicly named and shamed on the day he starts a new job and Ola being asked to cover an explosive 'career-making' story that just happens to include her husband to be.

Who can trust who?

There are some profound and meaningful questions among what seems to otherwise be a gossipy surface-level story with not ever so many likable characters in a murky cesspit of trial by social media judge and jury.

Ola and Michael are a golden couple. Set to get married. One morning a list of abusive men appears online. Michael's name is on it. What will Ola do? Is Michael guilty as charged? Can he prove his innocence. A tale for our times

Instantly gripping, Yomi’s style of writing is easy to get into and highly relateable. Questionable language can so easily become part of our everyday speech and easily dismissed as just ‘banter’ or ‘not that serious’ so it definitely made me think more about the implications of people’s behaviour on social media. I felt slightly disappointed by the ending, but I guess that just mirrors life, it’s not always a happy ending!

I finished reading this book in one sitting because it was just that good!
I honestly don't think that I've read a book this intriguing and thought provoking in a while so props to the author.

I wish I'd have enjoyed this book more than I did. Maybe my expectations were too high but it just fell a little flat for me and I struggled to finish.

When I first heard about this book I was super intrigued and was so grateful to be accepted on NetGalley to be able to read it before publication. I think the main takeaway of my review would be it’s such an important story showing the damage social media can do especially in this day and age with it being so easily accessible. It was so thought provoking and could definitely start a think first movement. I think it was more geared towards my age (29) and younger generations who have been more exposed to social media compared to older generations but I think this could be such an important book for youngsters to read to put some context around cancel culture and what it can do. Really enjoyed this one!

A wonderfully timely read, literally couldn't put it down. Yomi writes in such a succinct way and manages to take the reader through the entire spectrum of human emotions. I'm a bit late leaving feedback on this one but I haven't stopped recommending it. So good.

Such a timely novel. And extremely thought provoking. I really enjoyed discussing this brilliantly written book and the issues it raises with fellow book reviewers.

Yomi Adegoke’s novel The List is messy. And intentionally so. Her delve into the world of online outing of abusers and defamation goes deep, is never simplistic and explores every avenue. After The List appears on Twitter naming names, including that of Ola’s fiancé Michael, nothing is simple for either of them. The novel explores trust in relationships and loyalty in friendships as well as the more public aspects of the fallout. She looks at the casualties as well as the Teflon survivors of the naming of names. Yomi Adegoke has taken what could have been a cool academic look at the subject and created a real page turner with great, emotional characters who we really care about.

This was interesting. It poses a lot of ethical questions and gets you wondering about what you'd do if someone you knew turned up on a list of sexual predators. Given the revelations of what goes on behind the scenes with many famous faces, this is a timely novel that will have you continuing to ponder the issues raised long after you finish reading.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC without obligation.

The awkward meeting Michael had about taking time off work was triggering for me because I’ve been in that situation and it wasn’t pleasant at all. I wish I got to finish this book but my reading device went on strike and I couldn’t access my library anymore. I gave 3 out of 5 stars due to how far in the book I got; I think this might have been a 5 star if I had finished it.

A book about the world of metoo, cancel culture and the power of social media…readable and an important read.

This book followed an important topic around sexual harassment/assault. As well as how hard it is to be believed. How you will say you always believe victims until someone accuses your loved one.

The first half of this book was good. It interested me. Seeing how people reacted to the list. The struggle some had to believe the victims.
Then sadly the second half of the books dropped. It felt like a different story being told. I suddenly lost interest.

Just... incredible. Nuanced, thought-provoking and totally gripping from beginning to end. One of the most interesting explorations of celebrity culture and online toxicity that I have come across

This book was a huge success!

The book is based on the #metoo movement, cancel culture and online influencers where readers are led by a twitter trial and dual point of view. There are so many characters, online attention and emotions fuelled into this book that it creates a realistic sense of the events taking place. We are reminded of the victims, those who anonymously submit sensitive information, and those who fuel the online shaming.

Yomi Adegoke wrote this book in efforts to seek radical change in movements like on social media that have been created for personal gain.

I want to thank Netgalley, the publishers and Yomi Adegoke for the ARC.

Yomi writes a current, bold, and brilliant story. Twitter is such a small community when you’re a part of it that this is so relevant to now. Brilliant. Thank you Yomi.
