A very tangled story that's full of tension and secrets. A very good thriller with lots of twists and turns and good characters. Looking forward to reading more from the author based on this.

Jen is a police diver, very professional and used to searches for missing people. But when they are called into search for a missing local woman Jen does not tell anyone that she knows her. They obviously have history that Jen does not want to discuss. This becomes a tangled story with family ties, exes, past history and some sleepwalking thrown in for good measure.
I really enjoyed this book from L.V. Matthews, it was well written, full of tension and had some interesting characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for granting me an advance copy

Well @lv_matthews_author just gets better and better with every book. This is the best yet and completely unputdownable. I have been pulled in and unwilling to put this book down.

This is intriguing, unpredictable and filled with moments that completely change what you think. I loved Jen as a character despite rolling my eyes at some decisions she makes.

This is so well written you are pulled in and it becomes completely addictive. Every time I’ve thought I’ve had it figured out, BANG something to prove I’m completely wrong.

I love how well paced this book has been. It’s been easy to become lost in the pages whilst trying to piece things together.

Matthews is a superb author with each book getting better and better. There is nothing to dislike about this book. I can safely say that this is going to be one of my favourite books of the year because this is one that is fantastic.

From beginning to end, I have adored this book. This is definitely worthy of all the stars.

This book is a lot to take on. Multiple POVs, multiple timelines, multiple complex psychological angles and challenges all in one book. I feel like I need a rest! Personally, I found it a bit overwhelming at times but perhaps if I knew it would be so intense, I would have chosen a time to read the book when I was more ready for that type of intensive psychological story line. The aspect of diving is cleverly described with much obvious research made by the author. I feel enriched by the author on that subject and for that I am very grateful.
To conclude: very enjoyable book but be aware: this is not an easy read.

Loved The Twins by this author so was thrilled to read an advanced copy of Silent Waters.

I wasn't disappointed! With a brilliantly unique setting Silent Waters focuses on Jen, a police diver with hidden secrets that she is desperate to not be uncovered.

Matthews does a great job of building suspense throughout and works the story really well with a dual timeline giving the reader the opportunity to discover the back story and gradually the secrets reveal themselves!

Unexpected twists and turns kept me hooked and I couldn't put it down once I had started.

Jen was a fantastic character and I could see a series being developed around her - but obviously solving crimes through her diving rather than being the centre of one!

Would definitely recommend to crime & thriller fans.

Very enjoyable read! Great characters, great details to make you feel like you are right there. I enjoyed the twist and the edge of your seat thriller. First book by this author but not the last.

While I enjoyed the premise of this book and feel it has real potential, I had a real issue with the writing style.

This book was a little slow for me to begin with, I personally lot found the writing style quite confusing, there are many points in the book that flit between timelines without any kind of warning or indication.

The book does contain suspense but the writing style doesn’t reflect this. For a thriller, I found it to be quite slow paced, which was disappointing as the storyline, while was quite predictable, did have real potential. I felt like I was constantly waiting for a twist that just never came.

Overall, this book, for me, was okay. I didn’t enjoy the writing style and didn’t feel as though the story was exposed to its full potential.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
This is my first title by this author.
Well it's fair to say that there's a lot packed into this. A great missing person storyline with superb twists and turns that you just can't see coming at all.
I loved learning about the police divers.
I did find the chapters a little confusing.
Thanks again 3/5 stars

I really loved this! Written in a slightly unusual writing style, I thought it worked really well and was a great change from lots of similar police/mystery/thriller books. Packed with so many twists and turns, I was left guessing right up until the very end! I don't think I guessed a single one of the twists, but for once it actually didn't bother me, I just loved it! Even as one thing was revealed, it just led to more questions about something else. The slightly unreliable narrator helped with that too which I thought was great. I was hooked throughout and will definitely be picking up Liv's other books to read!

Jen is a police diver who is used to investigating murky crime scenes - when she is called upon to join the team investigating missing diver Claudia Franklin, she should tell her bosses that she knows the missing woman, but if she does ,she'll be taken off the squad. So begins the many layered story, as Jen is investigating Claudia, there's a complex back story with other members of both families heavily involved, there's a dodgy but well-meaning brother- and plenty more besides. I had to keep my wits about me when i was reading so I didnt lose the thread of who was doing what with who -the twisty journey was well worth it!

From the writer who wrote ‘Twins’, Liv Matthews brings us ‘Silent Waters’’. Jen Harper is a police diver, called to a dive in search of a missing woman. A woman it turns out Jen knows. So why is she not telling anyone? Why isn’t Jen declaring a conflict of interest?

As the story unfolds, more about this past connection is revealed. There are so many twists and turns in this book to keep you guessing. I also liked the unusual story, focusing on a police diver.

For me, it felt like there was a lot going on, too many subjects being addressed - sleep walking, domestic abuse, family relationships, police diving etc. I’m also not sure if the sleep walking element was needed? Anyway, this is still a good read, a psychological thriller with plenty shocks along the way.

I think this is my favourite of this authors books so far. She writes absolutely beautifully, bring her characters and setting to life perfectly as the water takes centre stage in this gripping and twisty thriller. It’s not a fast paced story but that works so well with the way the plot unfolds, delicately rippling through the chapters as the past creeps into the present, washing over the lives of all those involved.
A really good read!

This was an excellent, twisty story. Jen Harper is a police diver and her propensity for sleepwalking makes her a somewhat unreliable narrator. She is assigned to investigate the disappearance of Claudia Franklin, an Olympic diver who used to be her friend. The author does an excellent job of immersing the reader in the world of police diving; I really felt like I was submerged in the murky waters. The characters are all well-developed, from Jen's relationship with her brother Bill, her best friend Kerry, her former diving coach Mark, etc. The story is perfectly paced, suspenseful but not warp-speed paced or too slow. Loved it!

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from NetGalley and Welbeck Publishing.

I wasn't sure how I felt about reading this in light of Nicola Bulley when I started it. However I think it meant I read this book with new eyes and more understanding of what's involved in dive searches. I do feel a bit sorry for Liv that when she wrote this book there were no high profile current cases, I think the publication date had to be delayed.

Anyway, on to my thoughts. I found it fascinating to read about the diving done by the police divers and the descriptions under the water. The police procedural was interesting too and the past connection between Jen and Claudia.

My favourite quote:
"How do you measure success? Is it being the best at something? Is it by feeling like you have done nothing but your best?"

Silent Waters by LV Matthews is a gripping and thoroughly enjoyable read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author's attention to detail is evident in the vivid descriptions of Jen's job as part of the police dive team, which adds a unique and exciting element to the story.
The characters are well-developed, with Jen being a complex and intriguing protagonist. Her relationships with Kerry and her brother Bill are believable and well fleshed out, although some of their actions and reactions may seem a bit over-the-top at times.
The book covers a lot of ground, including police dive team logistics, professional diving, love triangles, abusive relationships, affairs, and murder, deceit, and lies. This can make the story feel a bit overwhelming and unfocused at times.
There are a few minor confusing things at the beginning of the book, and the sleepwalking aspect, while fascinating, can feel like a bit of a detour from the already complex story, as well as some extra added elements that I personally don’t think they were necessary in the story but they just add a new layer to the overall view.
Silent Waters is a thrilling and engaging read that is sure to keep you guessing until the very end.
