Home with Cowboy by Mary Sue Jackson and Leslie North

Thank you to #NetGalley and @victoryeditingngc for the e-Arc

I rarely read romance, but was interested in how the authors would depict a “cowboy” for this reason I will not review the rest of the book. I’m not a huge fan of romance, so I don’t want to ruin reads for those who do.

“I’m a farmer and a cowboy” is how Daniel introduces himself, and right off here we have an issue. Farmer, rancher, and cowboy are not synonyms. These are very different (if not readily obvious to all city dwellers) career paths. I don’t know any farmer who also calls himself a cowboy as a title or noun. Cowboying is very specific and usually relates to people who work on ranches or people who rodeo. Cowboy as a verb is used by lots of farmers and ranchers to describe working cattle and or riding horses. Here is where my issue lies with the depiction. I get that romance likes to create a fantasy and that is fine, but currently I think we as a culture are beginning to over romanticize and limit people in agriculture at a time when we desperately need to be engaged in the production of plants and animals for human consumption and use. Daniel falls into all the tropes; he is overly muscled (sorry big boy cowboys usually look like Cole Hauser not bodybuilders there isn’t time to go to a gym for cuts) emotionally closed off, with the express ability for violence, but opens up when he meets the right woman. Personally, this feels toxic to me, but to each their own.

There are also lots of factual errors in this book regarding farming and ranching. One example that will not be noticed by most, but will drive anyone in agriculture nuts was when Daniel was fixing the engine on his “hay bailer”… balers don’t have engines the tractor pulls the implement is powered from a PTO, and while they breakdown a lot, it is mostly from jams or issues with the tensioner. Now I’m in the weeds on this, but you get the point. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU GO TO PRINT PEOPLE.

I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Willa brings Daniels nephew to Texas to his farm. Daniels brother and sister in law passed away in an accident and Daniel will be caring for their son Bobby. Bobby clings to Willa and Daniel asks her to stay until he is settled.

As time goes on Daniel and Willa feel the attraction more and more. Can they find a way to make it work or will Willa head back to New York for her supposed dream job?

I received an advanced reader's copy of Home with the Cowboy by Mary Sue Jackson and Leslie North from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this novel. The main characters, Willa and Daniel, had chemistry from their first encounter and things just heated up from there. I liked their banter, interactions and building interest, steamy scenes, and their story arc. This was a solid romance novel and I found it to be well written. The plot was engaging and the pacing moved swiftly, plus with a hot cowboy and adorable little boy…it was all around appealing.

This was a fun, quick read romance.
Willa is a nanny in New York City, charged with bringing three year old Bobby to live with his bachelor uncle when his parents are killed. Born in Texas, Willa has vowed never to return, so when Daniel begs her to stay and help him with Bobby, she is completely torn. Her new job and life are in NYC, or are they?
Loved the characters and the plot, while predictable was enjoyable. I thought the middle became a little slow and repetitive, but overall a wonderful book.

I enjoy the story. Willa really stubborn and not willing to stay in Texas but it hit different when she stay with Daniel and people in the town was friendly. Willa heart melt because all the thing Daniel do for her. Daniel think never fall for woman again and here he is fall over Willa, he taking care of her, give what Willa need, his grand gesture was awesome.
