Firstly I must admit I should have read the fine print, like many others I thought it wad digital marketing as a whole, not based on advertising.
That's my mistake.

It took me a while to get in, as at the start it reminded me of an old school book I read, however, once I got stuck in, I found some great tips and advice I plan on implementing in the future.

This was interesting in an unexpected way. I suppose I should have read the secondary title line of “transparency, metrics and money” more closely. I had picked this up as a refresher for digital marketing tactics and came to realize this was much different.

The structure was nice and clear on each chapter and it covered How digital marketing works and how auto bids works and much more technical overviews that happen on the other side of setting a bid or programmatic ads.

It also spends time bringing the point of metrics being important to the advertiser, but at the same time explained these KPIs are low key just what the screen tells you, and the true measurements being unclear or inflated. Things I’ve never thought about before, but at the same time, there’s just not much I can do about it.

Something that lowered my overall rating is how quickly this book will likely become outdated. The whole digital ad canvas changes so fast. AI was mentioned briefly, but no mention of chat gpt that’s taken the world by storm. Small details like that i suspect will add up over time, but for now are still relevant.

So overall not what I initially expected but I did learn some things. A friendly deep dive.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The digital ad world is ever-changing. The tricks work today may not work tomorrow.
I don't know how long it takes when this book goes out-of-date, but this is exactly what I need in 2~3 years.

I love how this book is structured. Everything is reasonable and practical.
The methods explained in this book have strong backups. The references at the end of each chapter are helpful for someone like me to dig deeper into a specific topic.

So, if you a new marketer who wants to learn it from the beginning, or an experienced marketer who wants to refresh your knowledge, this is a must read.

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher offered me the ARC of this book!
