This one hit home for me, very relevant, very timely, and very punchy as someone from southwest Louisiana who lived through not only Harvey but countless other hurricanes that did incredible damage to our hometowns and states. I'll definitely be reading it again and perhaps adopting it as a course book in future classes.

Thank you to NetGalley and W.W. Norton for allowing me to read this book! We Hold Our Breath expertly blends history, social commentary, the climate crisis, and memoir elements to tell a unique and interesting story of Houston. At first, I was unsure whether this book would be "for" me, but I ended up loving it, and have actually recommended it to my husband to use for his PhD dissertation that partially deals with the ongoing water crisis in the Southwest.
