Thank you to Netgalley, Ava Glass and Random House UK for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Even though this is the second book in the series, I can confidently say that it still makes sense without reading the first.

Even though I suspected who the antagonist was, I still wanted to read on, partly because I wanted to know if I was right and also because I was intrigued by the writing.

I also loved how the main character was a female spy. I was drawn in by the suspense and the strong female protagonist. I loved how she was brave and resourceful and how she could outsmart the villain. I was eager to find out how the story would end. There are far too many spy novels with male characters as the main protagonists, so it was really refreshing to have a different character to follow throughout the story.

The first book in the series is now on my list to read - perhaps afterward this book may be worth reading again? With more background, we might be able to understand Emma's character better. Even though it's not particularly necessary, it would not be fair to criticise anything concerning the character's background without reading the first book. Once I've read the first one, I may revisit this review!

Having really enjoyed The Chase, I was excited for this, Ava Glass is a talented writer. Swapping London's streets for a yacht in the Med put Emma in a difficult situation - unfamiliar territory and limited support. Just what you need to raise the stakes. Absolutely cracking thriller.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book despite not really being a fan of spy books. In fact I think it’s the first spy book I have read and I will definitely be on the look out for more!

This is the second book in the Emma Makepeace series. I was a bit apprehensive to read this one first as normally I like to read a series in order, but there was enough background within the story to catch the reader up. I would say you don’t need to have read book one before this one (although it may spoil the ending of book one)!

Emma is a spy for MI6 and is tasked with finding out who killed an MI5 agent. This takes her across Europe to France and Spain in a dangerous undercover op to catch a dangerous Russian trio, using nerve agents. It soon becomes clear to Emma that her op has become compromised but who is the traitor and is it a fellow MI6 agent.

There were many twists and turns and which kept me guessing. The story was well written and very gripping - I couldn’t put it down.

I would recommend this book / series to anyone wanting to give a spy book a go. But beware - it was a nerve wracking read!

Thank you Cornerstone / Random House and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book!

I rushed out to buy the first book in the Alias Emma series before reading this book, so I knew what was going on. I absolutely loved the first book and was excited to read this one next!

I expected this book to be fast paced from the beginning, as the first one was, so was a bit surprised that the story was built-up more in depth. Emma was her lovable self from the first book and I enjoyed journeying with her undercover again, this time on a boat.

About half-way through, the plot's pace quickened and I was on the edge of my seat! There were so many twists and turns, I felt I was right there with Emma as she tried to solve her case. I loved it!

I would definitely recommend this book and the series so far to anyone. It's brilliant, I hope there's more to come!

The Traitor is my first book by this author and won’t be my last. This is an exciting heart pounding spy thriller.
Emma Makepeace is a MI6 agent and is called in when another agent is found murdered by a chemical substance, this agent had been looking into links with certain Russian oligarchs and with link to arms and money laundering deals.
Emma is found a position on a suspected Russians super yacht to see if she can find any links to the murder and other illegal deals. All alone at sea she is in much danger if discovered, with no support available she has to keep her wits about her working under much pressure. When put in severe danger Emma realises there must be someone in MI6 giving the Russians information about her.
This is an excellent constructed thriller that doesn’t let up in the action, the characters are all well rounded with depth and great dialogue from all. Lots of action and suspense, I was right in who I thought the rogue agent could be but no spoilers!
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

I was hooked from the first page and read the entire book over a couple of days. It is one of those books that gets you thinking in between your opportunities to read it. I can envisage this making a great film or TV series. I noticed that this is the second book in the series and so am now keen to read the first one.

The book is an easy read with like-able characters. It leaves you guessing until the end and has a well structured story line. There are links to recent events shared in the news and having seen a blue Russian owned super yacht moored in a local marina during lockdown, it was all the more visual.

A book that I would definitely recommend.

📚Review - The Traitor📚
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the first book that I’ve read by Ava Glass, but it isn’t the first book in the Alias Emma series. It didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the others though, and I still thoroughly enjoyed the book!

The book is written from the point of view of Emma, the FMC, who works for MI6 and has been tasked with bringing down some powerful Russian oligarchs. I love a book with a strong female lead and she was just that. She is a feisty quick-thinker who takes life-threatening risks in order to get the job done.

The first chapter sucks you in and opens up so many questions which leaves you wanting to read on. Even though I saw the plot twist coming (could I also be a spy?), it didn’t ruin the book and there were still plenty of moments when I was holding my breath in anticipation of what would happen next.

Overall though, a great read that I would highly recommend and I can’t wait to read the other Alias Emma books in the series. I’d like the thank NetGalley and Ava Glass for this ARC on exchange for an honest review.

A fun, fast-paced, enjoyable spy thriller, told by Emma Makepeace, a likeable and well-developed MI6 character in her twenties. Plenty of suspense and tension, turning the pages was easy to find out what happened next and who the traitor was. I became immersed in Emma's world and especially enjoyed the vivid excitement on the super yacht. No surprise at the end when the traitor is revealed but a thoroughly enjoyable journey to get there. Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.

A rather predictable spy story, I was so disappointed that I guessed the ending correctly.
Emma works for MI6 and when an operative is murdered she is sent under cover to discover who did it and why. She is sent to work on a super yacht but it soon becomes apparent that her every move is anticipated and there must be a mole - c

The Traitor by Ava Glass is a gripping and thrilling mystery novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end. Set in the stunning backdrop of London and the French Riviera, the story follows investigator Emma Makepeace as she delves into a murder case that quickly becomes personal.

As Emma uncovers clues and follows leads, she realizes that the murder is tied to two suspected oligarchs involved in illegal weapons procurement, and that a traitor within the British government may be aiding them. Determined to uncover the truth, Emma goes undercover on a luxurious superyacht, facing dangers and secrets lurking beneath the glamorous facade.

Glass weaves a fast-paced and suspenseful tale, filled with twists and turns that keep readers guessing until the final page. The vivid descriptions of the locations and the high-stakes atmosphere add depth to the story, creating a captivating reading experience.

The character of Emma Makepeace is well-drawn and relatable, a strong and determined protagonist who is willing to risk it all to uncover the truth. The tension and suspense build steadily throughout the novel, making it hard to put down.

The Traitor is a thrilling and engrossing mystery novel that will appeal to fans of suspense and espionage fiction. With its intricate plot, well-drawn characters, and exotic settings, it's a must-read for anyone who loves a heart-pounding mystery with a touch of international intrigue.

Emma has to find the traitor who betrayed her to the Russians. Its a rush against time before the Russians leave the UK for good. It has to be someone within the security services or someone who has high level security clearance, but who can she trust? This is the first book in the Alias Emma series that I have read and I was riveted from start to finish. If I had to put the book down to sleep I would lay there thinking about who was betraying Emma. I did work out quite quickly who I thought the traitor was but that did not take away any enjoyment from the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be hooked from beginning to end.

Spy novels involving Russian oligarchs are not unusual but this one is very well constructed revealing a detailed inside knowledge of the spy scene. Alias Emma Makepeace is herself of Russian origin and now works for the British intelligence services. Her dedication to her work has deprived her of a personal life. In this book, she is trying to build a case against Russian businessmen who are dealing not just in drugs but in nuclear weapons. Pretending to be a waitress, she gets a job on the yacht of one of them but her employer is suspicious of her. Then it becomes apparent that the enemy has an inside source so Emma risks everything trying to find the book’s title. This book certainly makes a reader want to get to the next page. Emma is constantly exposed to danger and that too heightens the tension. I recommend this next in the series.

Most enjoyable and a page turner. The somewhat simplified (I suspect) life of an undercover agent placed in great danger with the Russian mafia. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and you can tell Ms Glass used to be a crime reporter. Took me about 4.5 hours to read over two days, so the sort of thing I'd read on a flight or whilst on a beach, but I wanted to turn the next page. I deducted one star as the deception (the traitor) was pretty obvious to me half way through the book, but wasn't revealed (of course) until the end - if the book had an improvement point, then that deception needed to be more subtle or delivered with another twist. Or maybe I just read too many crime novels!

Emma Makepeace is a special agent, working in total secrecy for a government department that doesn’t even have a name. The agency’s main focus is on Russian spies working in Britain, and getting to expose them.

This is the second book in this series, but is perfectly standalone if the previous book has not been read.

A spy story with the usual thrills and spills.

The twist was obvious quite early on, with no great denouement. The naivety of Emma was amazing (a back door, really? How surprising!!).

However, the book is a perfect rainy day read, pure escapism.

2.5*

Thank you NetGalley.

I don't know whether I'm getting a bit pickier in my old age or whether the format of novels like this is due a revamp but whilst this was a perfectly acceptable read it really didn't catch my imagination. It was pretty clear from quite early on what the "twist" was going to be and that did colour the way I felt about the characters (who you would have thought might be more discerning, given the job that they were supposed to be doing). I always read before bed but I didn't really look forward to reading this as I have done with others and for that reason it wasn't one of my favourites.

I love to read spy thrillers and this one by Ava Glass didn't disappoint. Emma is the main character and as an undercover agent goes on board to work on a luxury yacht owned by a Russian obligarth. The storyline kept me gripped all the way through and one I definitely recommend reading.

Having not read the first book in this series, I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy this book. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to become engrossed in the fast paced world of Emma Makepeace.
The story is gripping, but the large plot points were very predictable so the ending felt anticlimactic.

As I said in my review of the first of this series, Alias Emma, I don’t normally read spy thrillers but I absolutely loved the book. I was therefore very happy when I was given the opportunity to read and review the second in the series – The Traitor. Not only did it not disappoint, it exceeded my expectations to the point that I’m a changed woman! Give me a spy like Emma Makepiece and it’s a no brainer. What a character she is! The writing was - in my view - brilliant, the plot was believable (just about - and the fact that I’m going to Barcelona in a few weeks’ time has nothing to do with it!). I have to admit that I guessed the baddie almost as soon as he appeared, but then kept doubting myself. I enjoyed every page and at times I was, literally, breathless. I just can’t wait for the next one. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for this riveting read.

A great, fun and fast paced spy thriller. This kept me on the edge of my seat with a strong female lead, who is constantly underestimated yet proves herself time and time again. Although this is a sequel in the Alias Emma series , I read this as a stand-alone and was hooked with amazing scenery and tense atmosphere, making this a great read and wat will become an amazing series.

Emma Makepeace returns the the second book in this series. Emma has to go undercover on a Russian oligarch's super yacht to gather evidence of trade in chemical weapons.

The book rips along across Southern France and Northern Spain until culminating in thrilling style in London

I hope Ava Glass continues with this series as Emma's character is developing into one of my favourite spies!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Penguin Random House Publishing for the chance to read and review this book
