Murder Among the Roses is actually the fist Liz Fielding I have actually read and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! So much that I have just downloaded the follow up.

Cosy crime is my go to genre and this fit the bill perfectly. For me to enjoy a book, I really need to feel and imagine the characters and I was able to imagine Abby and the village of Maybridge perfectly.

The cosy village location was perfect, just enough nosy characters to keep you invested.

Very enjoyable!

"MURDER AMONG THE ROSES" by Liz Fielding delivers a captivating mystery set in the idyllic village of Maybridge, where the discovery of not one but two bodies in the rose garden disrupts the peace. The novel weaves a suspenseful tale that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

The protagonist, Abby Finch, is thrust into a nightmarish situation when she unearths the bones of a buried baby in her soon-to-be ex-husband's family home. Liz Fielding skillfully portrays Abby's shock and horror, setting the stage for a gripping narrative. The tension escalates when Abby finds her ex-husband, Howard, dead in the same rose garden, turning her into the prime suspect.

The plot is well-crafted, with twists and turns that maintain a high level of suspense. Fielding skillfully navigates the complexities of small-town dynamics, family secrets, and the impact of a murder investigation on Abby's life. The pacing is well-managed, ensuring that the reader remains engaged from the discovery of the first body to the resolution of the mystery.

The village of Maybridge is vividly depicted, creating a charming yet mysterious backdrop for the unfolding events. The author excels in portraying the characters, each with their own motives and secrets, adding layers to the narrative. The accusations and tensions that arise when Howard's political campaign is threatened by the scandal add depth to the storyline.

Abby's determination to keep things cordial for the sake of her children adds a layer of emotional complexity to the character. The reader becomes invested in Abby's quest to uncover the truth and clear her name, creating a strong connection between the protagonist and the audience.

While the novel follows the conventions of the murder mystery genre, it does so with finesse and flair. The resolution is satisfying, and the unveiling of secrets contributes to the overall enjoyment of the story. "MURDER AMONG THE ROSES" is a four-star read that combines suspense, drama, and a touch of small-town charm to create an engaging mystery that will keep readers hooked until the final reveal. Liz Fielding's storytelling prowess shines in this thrilling whodunit.

I have never read books by Liz Fielding but I was lucky enought to received this book from NetGalley and I am so happy I did.

I love to read new authors and this one did not disappoint.
This one was a cozy mystery. It kept me going the entire book. I was constantly thinking about who killed Howard and who the baby belonged to.

I am glad this is a series and can't wait for the next one.

A new direction from Liz Fielding, but keeping the same strong story telling talent that made her romance books so popular. Featuring elements of romance mixed in with a murder mystery, the reader is engaged from the off and is kept guessing throughout. The characters are well developed and the plot moves at a good pace. I thoroughly enjoyed this move into crime fiction from the author and look forward to seeing where it goes next.

I really enjoyed this book, the story moved quickly and kept my interest throughout. No idea where it was going or who would be the killer and who gave birth to a baby! So easy to read and will definitely look out for any other Liz Fielding books.
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me to read and review this book

Get out and smell the roses, or maybe not! A fabulous whodunnit mystery to solve!
Abby’s character front and centre when it comes to the action! Abby needs to clear her name, find a murderer and bring calm back to her family!
So, gardening, bodies and the weight of solving the mysteries involved makes for a fascinating storyline! There’s lots to love about this book!
The characters and storyline are a great fit, I wonder if this could be the first in a series?
I highly recommend this book.

Huge thanks to Joffe Books, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book.

I loved Fielding's romances, especially the early ones, but this mystery, esp. with the opening "dead baby" scene is not what I enjoy reading.

An enjoyable cozy mystery, very different to the authors usual romantic books.
A realistic interesting read, you'll be kept guessing until the end. The main character of Abby was likeable and relatable. There are lots of layers to this book and the mystery of two murders seemingly over two timelines really makes in a unique interesting read.

Liz Fielding sure can keep a reader engrossed in a story and Murder Among The Roses is no exception! While digging up a rose bush, Abby finds human bones buried underneath the rose bush. Discovering that it's a baby's bones sends her on a quest to find out who the baby belongs to, what happened to the baby, and why the baby's bones are buried on her soon-to-be ex-husbands flower garden and mansion that he just inherited from his aunt. What happens during Abby's quest keeps me entertained while reading this can't put down book, well worth reading!

Maybridge is a quiet peaceful town where no one would ever expect to find a dead body buried in the rose garden and much less that of a child. Abby is horrified when she finds the remains of a baby that was long since buried under the rose bush in her soon to be ex husband's family home. Abby immediately calls the police and tries desperately to reach her husband but he is nowhere to be found since he is off who knows where with his soon to be very pregnant fiancé. Howard finally finds out what has happened and accuses Abby of trying to ruin his political ambitions by leaking what she found to the press. Someone knows what happened to that poor baby and will they silence Abby before she can find out?

#murderamongtheroses by @liz.fielding is SOOOO good. i was expecting "cozy' but found it to be much, much more. these are great characters, especially abby, who has every reason to take the low road with her ex-husband but chooses not to, for the sake of her children. her finding buried bones under a rose bush on his family property causes a train wreck of events that encompasses a good bit of the village of Maybridge. i was not anticipating such a twisty, family-oriented story; it kept me reading late into the night. and i'll admit, i was thoroughly thrown at the big reveal. Highly recommend!

P.S. Thanks to #netgalley and yes, another winner from @joffebooks.

An excellent first entry in the Maybridge Mysteries series by Liz Fielding. Abby Finch not only finds the bones of a long buried baby while working for her soon to be ex-husband, but also finds his body not long after, and her world is turned upside down. Abby is a great character and I’m looking forward to more!

I received a copy of this book for review.

When the body of a baby is found in Abby's garden - a mystery is unleashed. Questions about who the baby is, how it happened to be buried in the yard and much more. Abby digs into the past of the Finch family in search of answers, but what she finds leaves her wishing she'd never gotten involved in this matter at all. Further adding to the suspense is the fact that Abby's soon to be ex-husband is found murdered over the grave of the baby. And she's the prime suspect.

This story moves at a steady pace, introducing all of the characters to us as the mystery unfolds. There are many twists and turns throughout the story, keeping me guessing and also drawing me in further to discover the truths that lie behind these deaths.

An interesting and unusual murder mystery. Set in the present but with links to the past. Good characters and surprising twists.

The first book in the Maybridge Murder Mysteries has complex characters and a believable setting. It draws the reader into Abby's family life as she negotiates divorce and a chance meeting with an old friend. It has a gradual reveal tied up with dark family secrets. Abby is a likeable character. Clever, compassionate and courageous, she determinedly seeks the answers to the mystery she uncovers. It's an engaging, immersive read with a poignant and twisty mystery.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I've read so many of this author's romantic fiction books and was keen to see how she'd transfer her skills to the crime genre.

It's a well-plotted, pacy book with a historical mystery and a modern murder at its core. The heroine discovers the skeleton of a long-buried baby in her ex-husband's garden and the husband is murdered. There is a large cast of characters to get your head around.

The ex-husband was so awful, it was difficult to understand why anyone wanted him, let alone would put up with his behaviour for so long. Abby was a little doormat IMHO and even at the end, her willingness to forgive and forget struck me as odd.

I enjoyed it and I think LF has crossed the divide between romance and crime writing rather well.
