A powerful resource for young Black women (who it was explicitly written for) to support and validate them through their personal journeys. Memoir explaining how the author has built her programme is mixed with prompts and questions to help readers find and develop their own authentic lives. Not quite for me (and wasn't intended to be) hence knocking off a star, but I'm sure this will be helpful to many.

A Renaissance of Our Own explores themes related to race, gender, and social justice, and seeks to empower women of colour to embrace their identities and claim their place in the world.

The essays in the book cover a range of topics, including the history of white supremacy, the intersection of race and gender, the importance of self-care and community-building, and the need for systemic change in areas such as education and criminal justice.

Cargle's writing is powerful and insightful, drawing on her personal experiences and expertise as a writer, activist, and educator. The essays are both informative and thought-provoking, challenging readers to question their own assumptions and biases and to take action to create a more just and equitable society.

Overall, "A Renaissance of Our Own" is an important and inspiring book that will resonate with readers who are passionate about social justice and are looking for ways to create positive change in the world. It is recommended for anyone interested in the intersection of race and gender, as well as those who are seeking to better understand and support women of colour in their communities.

The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
