This slow-burning, small town romance is more serious than Grant's indie books, but it still has plenty of charm. I liked the deeper elements and the focus on mending your broken pieces - these two instant enemies clash until they realize how much they have in common, and watching that come full circle was very fulfilling. Starring a commitment-phobic hero who is drawn to emotionally unavailable women (which our newly divorced heroine definitely is!), the romance takes awhile to fully develop. I did find the beginning to be a little too slow for me, but the story gets richer and deeper as it progresses. The moody hero is secretly a sweetheart, a high school teacher who genuinely loves his students. It was adorable seeing the grump in his element, and I loved that he cared for the heroine's teenage daughter as well. It's a lighthearted yet emotional romance with a definite found family feel.

The story follows Maisey, a woman who inherited a rundown ranch after her uncle passed away. Though she had been absent from his life for years, Maisey appreciates that she has a place to go after she (finally) divorces her husband. But not everyone welcomes Maisey's arrival in town, and that includes her new tenant, Flint. The sexy stranger was friends with her uncle, and he doesn't have much respect for Maisey. As the two bicker, they slowly realize that there's more to the other than meets the eye. Seeing Flint interact with her teenage daughter softens his harsh edges, and watching Maisey gain her confidence again does something funny to Flint's heart. But neither one is in the right headspace for a relationship, and that means giving in to their unwanted attraction is off the table.

Personally, I vastly prefer Grant's indie romances, which are more overtly funny and playful. However, I felt like this was her most successful traditional release so far - there are definitely some comedic elements, but it truly is more of a quiet, small town romance. I liked how Maisey and Flint grew on each other over time, and both characters were multi-faceted and interesting. Watching them both find their happy again was certainly swoony. It's a low heat/super slow burn romance, and it was too quiet for me at times. The community is a major aspect, so the romance takes a backseat to that in the first half. Once Maisey and Flint let down their walls a bit and finally gave in to the feelings, it was easy to see why they were perfect together. So this was a solid 4-star read for me the whole way through - it didn't grip me completely, but I was invested in the romance the whole way through.

I love Pippa books and this is another great one. I laughed and cried. These two were fun and I always love over the top sometimes as that is what is sometimes needed to get away from everything. I don’t think I have met one of her books I haven’t enjoyed! One click

Maisey Spencer finds herself confronted by Flint Jackson, when he comes to her rescue. He also turns out to be not only her renter but her daughter’s teacher.
This was a slow burn romance that maybe was a bit too slow. They were forever second guessing the romance, which was a bit frustrating. A rushed ending but an interesting read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“Not My Kind of Hero” is about single mom, Maisey, who has inherited a ranch from her uncle in the small town of Hell’s Bells, Wyoming. So she takes her 16-yr-old daughter, Juniper and moves into said ranch.

What she doesn’t expect is its occupant, Flint, who’s not only the rancher, but also the local high school math teacher. He is a foundation of knowledge, a well built helper, and might I add, a well built everything.

Maisey and Flint have different visions for the ranch. Sparks fly through clashes, serendipitous school encounters, and cherished quiet moments, ultimately forging a connection beyond ranch borders. Their banter and enemies-to-lovers vibes was fun to read.
I also enjoyed seeing the connection that Flint and Juniper have. Flint is a good teacher, but he’s also a good role model. He's a beacon of mentorship, admired by students, Juniper, and even the entire town.

A true slow burn, this story delicately nurtures Flint and Maisey's journey toward a happily-ever-after, with timing and trust as their steadfast companions. And Flint—like all good heroes— has the best line to sweep us off our feet: “Sometimes figuring out who you are and who you want to be involve figuring out who to trust to on the journey with you.”

Pippa yet again brings another romance with comedy sprinkled in to life! Inheriting property from an uncle and moving with a surly teenager and having to deal with a grumpy tenant/teacher/coach, trying to fit into a small town that adored the uncle, is hard enough. Having to deal with cows, bears, other potential wildlife and the everyday insecurities about life decisions make for a hilarious story!

I love when a new Pippa Grant book releases, they are always so hilarious and keep my attention like no other books. It took me like 3x longer than usual to read the first few chapters because I was laughing so hard! June and Maisey had the best introduction ever, I honestly knew I’d love this book from the moment they were introduced and I was right.

What I didn’t expect what the emotional wringer this book would put me through about motherhood, horrible parents, and all the emotions that come out of it. We see these with Flint, Maisey, and June and I love how it brings them together as they can relate to each other.

Pippa Grant does single parent books so well and I hope we continue to see this trope from her, even though I’d be willing to basically read any book written by her.

Masiy has moved with her daughter Junie to her Uncle's old ranch property in a new town. They both needed to get away , but Junie isn't too happy about it.

Things get off to an interesting start with a bear, a cow, and a guy named Flint. I loved the chemistry and banter between Maisy and Flint. They were so great together, even if it took them time to work through their issues and open up to one another. It was sweet seeing how he cared for Junie too

I love reading Pippa Grant's books. She always strikes just the right balance between moments that will make you literally laugh out loud, ones that'll make you swoon, and emotional ones that will make you feel for the characters. I absolutely loved this story and hope we get more books set in Hell's Bells!

NOT MY KIND OF HERO by Pippa Grant is Flint and Maisey's story.

Maisey and her daughter Junie move out to her late uncle's ranch to start over. When Maisey finally finds out who Flint is, she realizes he is nothing like she pictured. Maisey and Flint butt heads right from the very beginning but soon realize that they need to be civil with each other because there is no escaping the other person.

I am honestly surprised that I completed this book. Had it not been for the great job by Connor Crais and Savannah Peachwood I can guarantee I would not have finished the book. The book is primarily centred around Junie, the daughter. All three main characters are to flaw-focused and almost unwilling to change anything when the main premise of the book is about change.

Get ready for → small town, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, told in the dual first-person point of view.

Content → death of a family member, death of animals (natural)

Oh, I love this story so much! The author gives us layered characters and lots of fun with beautiful emotions too!
This is Rom Com, but lots more is to be had in this story and it’s very much a Pippa Grant book. Well thought out and 3D characters are between these pages and I’m here for it.

This was my first Pippa Grant and will not be my last! Very well written romance with all my favorite features: small town, dual POV, forced proximity and all the chemistry and banter.

I loved the FMC as a heroine, especially as a single mom, and she is a really authentic and genuine character, making her really easy to root for.

The overall story felt believable which made this an easy and enjoyable read.

I’ve read/listened to Pippa Grant for years ….even before she was Pippa. This story is reminiscent of her Jaime Farrell books. Strong self sufficient FMC who is trying to just refind herself after a bad situation and a MMC who is just there to love her. Loved this one!

I love Pippa Grant as an author with her real life hot mess characters, banter and romance. I enjoyed the growth both the FMC and MMC had during this book even though there were parts that I kinda wanted to shake the FMC. Overall had a great time reading this and will always pick up a Pippa Grant book whenever I can.

This is my second book by Pippa Grant and while this one wasn’t my favorite of the two, I still really enjoyed it! There were a lot of laugh out loud moments and I loved all of the characters, especially Earl🥹 Maisey was kind of annoying for most of the book which made it a bit hard to read at times. I get the whole strong independent woman, don’t need no man, only looking out for me and my daughter thing but a lot of her antics were a little immature to me. Jackson had his moments too when he went around thinking he didn’t deserve happiness. My guy, OF COURSE YOU DO! However, they did win me over so alls well that ends well. I recommend this one if you enjoy small town, single parent, dual POV romcoms!

Maisey Spencer and her teenage daughter Junie have just relocated to Hell’s Bell Wyoming to Maisey’s recently inherited ranch after a scandalous divorce. She was not expecting the current on-site ranch manager, Flint Jackson, to be such a grump and so darn distractingly sexy. To further complicate things, he’s also Junie’s new math teacher and soccer coach placing him firmly off-limits since Maisey is supposed to be rebuilding her relationship with her daughter rather than falling into bed with her neighbor. From the opening meet-disaster with Earl the Bear 🐻, to the cow funeral for Gingersnap 🐮, this book charmed me completely. So many fun laughs but also completely realistic characters! I loved how much Flint related to his teenage students and fell so hard for him. Maisey has always had to play second fiddle to her former husband on their renovation reality show, and it was so lovely to watch her fall for someone who supported and championed her contractor skills and role as a mother. The connection between these two was 🔥 🥵 and well worth the buildup! Readers who enjoy small town settings, flawed but lovable characters, and the joy of finding love in unexpected places will gobble this book up.

A bitterly sweet temptation. Not My Kind of Hero brings out all the feels. From deliciously funny to deeply emotional, Grant sets aim for the heart and reaches her target tenfold. Not your average book boyfriend but irresistible all the same.

I enjoyed this book and all the fun that came along with it. Flint and Maisey were so cute together. I loved how well they just got one another. Junie was such a great part of the story, and I am glad that she was able to shine through.
Overall a fun read!!

I enjoyed reading this delightful romantic comedy that kept me well past bedtime. I like the storyline and the realistic characters with all their banter and chemistry. Well done Pipa Grant, you've written another romance I enjoyed reading, and I can't wait to read your future books because I like your writing style.

i inhaled this book and all of its small town, slightly forbidden, single mom, grumpy hero goodness in one sitting.

maisey uproots her and her daughter’s life to get away from the tabloids and rumors following her divorce from her ex husband. they move to the small town she loved as a child and in to the hobby ranch that her uncle left her. she is determined to put her daughter first and really make a life in hell’s bells.

flint lives in a small house on the ranch and doesn’t think the property should have been left to her, a ditzy tv star that he doesn’t want to feel obligated to take care of. he loves the town and the people. he is a teacher, coach, and handyman. a real mister do it all for everyone.

maisey is an amazing mother and person and while flint is difficult as all get out he is honestly to good to be true but somehow is the real deal. their chemistry sizzled the pages. i was cheering, stomping my feet, giddy for them to get their happily ever after. hell’s bells is a charming small town full of good hearted gossip and even better people. i was laughing one second and getting teary eyed the next. this book is an absolute delight.

Loved this book, the story of Flint and Maisey. The meet when Maisey and her daughter inherit a house, where Flint is a tenant, neighbor and also local teacher. He was not looking for anything serious, and Maisey is just divorced, but can they ignore the connection between them? I liked how it is told from both points of view.

5 STARS
This new book stands alone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.
Maisey is a single mom of a sixteen-year-old daughter and is in the process of starting over. She inherited a ranch from her Uncle Tony and Wyoming, and it is the perfect place to escape and rebuild. Her neighbor is Flint. He is a grumpy, hot, teacher/coach with his own share of baggage.
Maisey is an incredibly strong heroine. In her I see what every mother feels at some point: the feelings of failure, the desperation to make things right, and a deep and abiding love for her child regardless of the cost to herself. I loved her character and how competent she was at a lot of things people never expected her to be. Her daughter is a typical teenager with all the eyerolls, insecurities, and bravado. Flint, readers come to realize, is a man of deep feelings hidden under his crusty surface. I really liked how hard he falls for Maisey. I love that he looks out for her and wants the best for her and June.
The small town has the requisite quirky characters. There are appearances by wildlife and livestock. There are moments of laughter and moments of heat between Flint and Maisey. Though they try to resist the temptation to be together, the chemistry between them is undeniable. I loved the healing that each character has over the course of the book. They each must work on their underlying baggage in order to have the future they deserve together. I have read all this author’s books and honestly this may be my new favorite. I loved it.
