Catch Her Death is the 7th book in the Bree Taggert series by Melinda Leigh. I read the book in one day and absolutely loved it. Even though this is book 7 in the series you could read this book as a stand alone as Melinda Leigh does an excellent job of filling in the reader with necessary information. Sheriff Bree Taggert goes to arrest Travis Ekin at his family compound. The Ekin family are all violent and have been in trouble with the law. While there, the k-9 officer finds Travis and the dog bites him. As his mother and brother watch Sheriff Taggert and her team take him away, they vow revenge on her. Bree Taggert is used to getting threats, but this family usually follows through on theirs.

When Bree Taggert moved from Philadelphia to the country she became "mother" to her sister's 2 kids. Bree's sister was murdered and it was a shock to everyone. To help the transition, Bree's police partner in Philadelphia made the move with her. Dana Romano was retiring and thought it would be nice to live with Bree and help her care for the children. They'd always gotten along well and she knew Bree would need help. Dana has just started dating a cosmetic surgeon after being with Bree for a year. She's excited for the date tonight as he's invited her to his home so that he can cook for Dana.

When Dana arrives she knocks, but there's no answer. She tries the knob and it turns. As Dana enters, she calls out but there's no reply. She smells something good cooking and heads to the kitchen. The kitchen is empty and there's vegetables cut up ready to cook. She then hears a groan from upstairs. As she fears that her date has fallen or become sick, she heads to the steps. As she's climbing the steps, a man wearing a ski mask comes racing down the steps knocking Dana down a few steps and landing on her. He then begins strangling her. Luckily, Dana has had a lot of training from being a cop and is able to finally break the hold he has on her neck. She kicks him and he eventually runs out the back door. Dana hit her head very hard when she fell and she feels dizzy. She hears more groans from upstairs and heads up again. When she gets to her boyfriend's room, he has been shot in the chest and has lost a lot of blood. She immediately calls 911 and tries to slow the blood loss. Dana now has blood all over her as she's kneeling in it and has her hands on his chest administering CPR.

The paramedics arrive and take him to the hospital. Dana is also in bad shape with a gash in the back of her head and a huge lump forming. Her neck is badly bruised as is the rest of her from the fall and struggle. She is taken to the hospital, too. Dana was in the next town over when this occurred so another detective is in charge instead of Bree. Bree goes to the hospital to see Dana with her own eyes and to find out what happened. Bree finds out that her boyfriend is in surgery and Dana has a bad concussion and stitches in her head. No broken bones, but many bruises. The detective arrives at the hospital to ask Dana some questions about what happened. Bree knows the guy, but has never been impressed by him. She wishes someone else was on the case, especially when he starts to believe that Dana was the shooter and faked her injuries!!!

While at the hospital, Bree's nephew calls. Luke tells Bree that there's a man near the barn and he's watching the house. The kids are home alone because everyone else is at the hospital. Luke is in high school and they have a great alarm system, but after the Ekin's threats Bree is very worried. She and Matt Flynn, her boyfriend and assistant at work, race towards home. Matt calls his brother to come keep an eye on Dana. They're worried the intruder may come back to finish the job with Dana. They make record time getting to Bree's house and Bree lets Luke know that they're home. When they get out of the truck, they take a look around with their guns drawn. They see footprints in the snow over by the barn and they can see where the man paced and watched the house. There's no sign of him now as they see footprints headed behind the barn into the woods.

As Bree and Matt investigate who's threatening her and her family more threats come in the mail. Who could be doing this? As they try to track down the person, Dana is being accused on tv of committing the crime against her boyfriend!! Dana is still dealing with her concussion symptoms and not herself. She keeps having to leave the house to give interviews to the police and sign her statement of what happened. As Bree realizes the detective isn't even looking for the intruder because he thinks Dana is responsible, she gives Dana the name of a good lawyer. Things continue to escalate as someone is trying to get to Dana and someone is trying to get to Bree and the kids. The Ekin family is in more trouble and Bree must make another arrest. How will they retaliate? Will Bree and her kids become targets of this violent family? Are the Ekins the people threatening Bree?

This is a very quick read as you can't put it down. I finished the book at 3 am because it was too exciting to stop. I had to know if Dana, Bree, Matt, Nathan, and the kids would be okay. I also had to know who was behind this. I rate Catch Her Death 5 stars with my highest recommendation. The Bree Taggert series is one of my very faves and I highly recommend you read it. Catch Her Death comes out on 9/12/23 so don't wait to get it! Catch Her Death is the seventh book in the Bree Taggert series.

Bree's best friend Dana is going to meet her new boyfriend at his house for dinner. When she enters, the setting looks like a romantic evening has been planned. Dana hears something upstairs and calls out to him, but he doesn't answer. When Dana goes upstairs, she encounters a masked man who attacks her. She sees her date on the floor with a large bloodstain on his shirt. Dana chooses to stay and help him rather than go after the attacker. Dana calls 911 for assistance.

Bree has been receiving death threats in the mail and vandalism to her home. Someone is stalking around Bree’s home and terrorizes her teenage nephew which puts the whole family on alert.

There were several crimes woven into the main story involving Dana. I enjoy each and every one of the books in the Bree Taggert series. This one was no different. It was a fast afternoon read. The characters are well written and very likable. I look forward to reading many more in the series.

Dana’s date turns deadly when she arrives and find an intruder and her friend gravely injured. She is hurt in an altercation with the intruder and we see a different side of Dana were she lets other’s help her. It was nice to see.

Bree has just arrested another criminal and it looks as if this has brought trouble home to her and the kids. Matt and his family do everything in their power to help and protect them all.

Things are further complicated when the detective in charge of her case thinks Dana may a suspected. It was nice to see Morgan Dane at her best helping Dana sort out her legal issues.

There are a few different stories running parallel in this story and some of them intersect. Things end up leading back to the past and things eventually all come to a head with Dana in danger again. Luckily she’s tough and has good friends.

I’ve felt in the past books that Bree seemed to trouble keeping herself out of trouble, but it didn’t feel like this for Dana which I liked.

There was a little romantic surprise thrown in which I really liked.

I think this is my favorite story of the series so far. It felt like everything pulled together nicely.

Another great book in this series. I love how sheriff Bree Taggert puts her family first but always solves the mystery. This book involves her friend and ex partner Dana. I look forward to more books involving Bree.

I just hate it when I get to that spot in the book, and I just can't put it down. Late night turns into early morning and I'm reading instead of sleeping. Luckly it's rare for that to happen, but it did with this book. I just had to know what happened next. The story grabbed me from the first pages and held me to the end. You have little clue as to the why and even less clue as to the who. That is the way a good mystery should be.

It's January in upstate New York and it is cold, really cold. Bree has finally gotten her K-9 team up and running and Officer Collins and her dog Greta have just taken down a murderer. The family od Travis Ekin is vowing revenge and Bree is taking the threats seriously. This is not a family you want to ignore.

Into this chaos, Bree's best friend, Dana Ramano, is attacked and then finds her date murdered. It happened in another jurisdiction and Bree doesn't know this police chief well enough to know what will happen. As it turns out Chief Hanover has zeroed in on Dana as his only suspect.

With Dana recovering from a concussion, threats to the family, a drug bust, another body and a missing dementia senior, Bree and Matt have their hands full. But when evidence is discovered that link the two bodies, it looks more and more like Dana is the target and she is in danger.

Sherriff Taggert and team are stressed when Bree's former partner and current nanny is involved in a home invasion that ends in death, a crime family out for revenge, combined with some fierce winter weather, oh and someone who is stalking Bree. Sounds like a lot, doesn't it? There are a few other events in the book, but it all works really well together. Bree and Matt continue to work well as a couple/team and I liked that we got to learn more about Dana and the rest of Matt's family. It was mentioned several times that this book takes place just about a year after the first book. It is really hard to think that these events all took place so quickly back to back. I somehow thought more time had passed. But I love how well the author combines a little romance into her thrillers! It's just enough to add some fun without overtaking what I read the books for in the first place: a good mystery! Oh and having some dogs throughout doesn't hurt either!

WOW, I so love these Bree Taggert novels. When Brees best friend, and ex-partner is suspected of murder, she sets out to prove her innocence. But someone is stalking her or are they?

Bree is a phenomenal heroine. She is strong and independent but not without faults and I love that about her. Matt is the perfect counterpoint for her and I adore the fact that he knows when to step in and when to simply be there for her.

Things are hitting extremely close to home for Bree as evil threatens her loved ones. This was a pulse pounding read as the story unfolds and pulled me further in with each turn of the page.

I am really enjoying this series. Each book is a standalone although relationships develop and change with each installment.

Bree’s best friend and nanny Dana finds herself caught involved In a murder investigation. All the while another body is found in a junk yard; seemingly connected The police investigating are hot for Dana and we get a guest appearance from Morgan Dane as Dana hires her to help mitigate things. Someone is also stalking Bree. Add in an elderly man with dementia who keeps escaping his nurse chanting an eerie repeating 3 words. As always, Melinda connects all these subplots to make one masterpiece. Absolutely riveted and a little cold… see cover 🥶. I love how all of her books feature K9 and you can tell she’s done thorough research into it.

This is a spectacular addition to the series. It is full of the expected mystery and suspense but has the added benefit of having characters that the reader can easily find themselves rooting for. The relationships are real and full of heart, which adds another dimension to the story. Definitely a winner for fans of Melinda Leigh.

The Bree Taggert series are among my favorite police procedurals, so when I was given the opportunity to read an ARC of Catch Her Death, I jumped on it. The seventh in the series did not disappoint, except that now I have to wait for the next book in the series to be released!

One of my favorite parts of Melinda Leigh's books is the crossover between the different series that are written by this author. Catch Her Death features an appearance by Morgan Dane, the main character in another series. I also enjoy the found family that Bree and Matt have created, with extended family and friends playing important roles in the story and helping Bree raise her niece and nephew.

The mystery that Bree and Matt solve is multi-layered and twisty, kept me guessing unti the end. The wrap-up was not, in my opinion, as clean as I would like to see, and I found the motivations and actions of the villain to be a bit unbelievable. It seemed a bit of a stretch.

Bree, Matt and co are back for more adventures!

This time around though the action is hitting close to home again. Bree's been receiving threatening letters and then Dana walks on the dying breaths of her date! Are the two incidents related? The threats to their home and family increase when someone vandalises their barn. Bree refuses to allow her nephew and niece to face more trauma in their young lives and wants the perpetrator caught. Fast!

Bree, Matt, Dana and even Matt's brother Nolan end up in the cross hairs of the perpetrator. They lend assistance to another local town when the cases become linked but the cop in charge now has a bee in his bonnet that Dana is involved and they can't let her go to jail for something she didn't do.

Even with danger stalking them, Bree and Matt's relationship continues to evolve and grow. They are a great couple, each recognising their flaws and their strengths working together. The intimacy of just doing "family things" together just gets you in all the feels. And Nolan, the dark horse, has been hiding some secrets of his own! Dana may just have to contend with another Flynn making himself at home!

The action and suspense are well paced and there are plenty of twists and turns. Just when you're sure you've figured it out, something comes along and makes you doubt yourself. I love watching all the relationships, personal and professional, develop and solidify. Bree is an excellent sheriff, the way her staff rally around her is amazing.

Now waiting to see what befalls them next!

The Bree Taggert series is a police procedural with other layers of complex families, found family, some romance. There is also a K9 component which is growing. Bree's department has its own trained K9 unit now which has been certified. Cady and Matt originally trained Greta and she has done very well here.

Characters from the author's Morgan Dane and Scarlet Falls series got involved in the cases here. These series are earlier but do not need to be read first. They are fantastic and highly recommended reads. I would read this series itself in order as they are excellent and both the world and relationships continue to develop.

Catch Her Death has new threats to their family. Dana has some romance and a close brush with death. Matt's family steps up and forms a tighter bond with Bree and hers. I love these connections and their support. Matt and Bree continue to improve and develop their relationship, too.

There is a murder investigation which is complex and a police chief is trying to bring Dana into it. There's also a huge drug and guns bust Bree makes of a criminal family at their business. There are brothers and cousins who have had various run-ins with the law. During the bust, they find another dead body. The evidence eventually sorts things out but the process is harrowing.

I am thrilled to see there will be at least two more books in the Bree Taggert series, On Her Watch in May 2024 and Track Her Down in January 2025, because I have loved every book in the series.

a tense thriller with plenty of red herrings, i for one couldnt put the book down and cant wait for the next book in this series

Bree Tagger is back in this latest sequel. She is dealing with the family of a murderer she just arrested vowing revenge on her. She is being threatened and finds someone has been hiding in the shadows around her property. While she is trying to figure out who is behind the threats, Dana has begun dating again and when her she arrives at the physician’s home for a special dinner, she finds he has been shot. She ends up being the top suspect by the local police.

Melinda Leigh has added many twists that will keep you guessing! I have loved every book in this series and this one is right up there with the others. She brings Matt’s brother in this sequel with a larger role and I can’t wait to see where it leads to in future sequels. Her characters are always so real and relatable. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Never a dull moment for Bree and Matt. One moment they have an arrest warrant, then a missing person, then there’re threats. One sheriff for one small community, it’s amazing how dedicated the team is to her. The K9 is especially outstanding, that dog does everything just for a squishy hedgehog toy. I really enjoy the constant movement between characters and events, and then their personal life exists somewhere in the chaos. A truly thrilling series with puzzle pieces of all kinds. I am always thrilled to get an early copy through NetGalley and provide my review voluntarily.

Sheriff Bree Taggert is back in another brain twisting case where Bree’s best friend, Dana Romano is the prime suspect. Bree knows that Dana wouldn’t have done it but can’t intrude on another cops case. But when the case she is working links to the case Dana is accused in she must find the killer before they kill again.
I love watching Bree grow as a person. She is the consummate cop but raising her sisters kids and her involvement with Matt have forced her to widen her life to more than the job. A fantastic addition to the series.

4* Another excellent tale in this series, with more family/personal moments for Bree.

This tale can't really be read as a standalone, as you'll possibly wonder at how slow and steady Bree's relationship with Matt is, and wonder why they're together if they maintain separate places and when Bree's clearly a workaholic. But, if you read it in order with the series, you'll see how heartwarming it is that they leads are where they are now, and how much Bree has managed to combine being a LEO with a parent, and that this is big steps for her, a woman who until the events in book 1, had been a career LEO far, far away from her family's roots. It makes me glad to see that she won't sacrifice one part of her life for the other, and that she and those who love her, manage to make it work. It feels like she's real, believable and a long way away from the 'love-her-but-can't-believe-in-her' series of books featuring JD Robb's Eve Dallas.

This book shows a bit more of the workings of Bree's life, as it starts off with the focus on Dana, her ex partner in the force back in the day, who is now Bree's housekeeper and childminder of sorts, but who here turns out to be the suspect in her very new boyfriend's death. And boy do we get to see Dana's physical and mental strength, even when she's literally on her knees and with her life in danger. Did it feel lile filler? No, because ML wrote the events so seamlessly to tie in with life as we've come to know it for Bree and Dana, and the plot was believable, as were the events that then began to target Dana and her family. And family is what this book is about. Everyone pitches in, obeys the ground rules, looks out for each other here, especially when Bree is on the job and can't be the hands-on protector that she would like to be.

And those locals with their grudges? They were sadly believable, and thankfully, says this Brit, only in America, I think - by which I mean no disrespect, but had it not been for their right to bear arms, their sovereign-nation thinking and their disrespect for the law, this tale wouldn't have had the tempo and feeling of danger that it did.

Bree continues to grow in this series, and though her romance and the personal side of her might be slow to emerge/grow/burn, that's part of who she is, and she is a woman of many parts, many strengths and many battles to have overcome, and I enjoy seeing the small things. This series has the potential to continue for many, many books to come, and long may that continue.

LOVED it!!! I would give the book 4.5 stars. I absolutely love the Bree Taggert Series and the books never disappoint. So many twists and turns, surprises around every corner. This one centered around Dana. Dana definitely lucked out having Nolan as her babysitter. The Flynn brothers are not just handsome, but wonderful, caring men. I couldn't put this book. I had no idea who the killer was going to be. He/She put so much work into getting revenge. Is it a coincidence that someone Dana and Bree arrested in Philly now lives close to them? What was with Chief Hanover directing all his attention to Dana and not looking for the actual killer. His theories were crazy and made no sense. He had such tunnel vision and was convinced Dana was lying about everything. It was great to see Morgan Dane again. If I ever needed a lawyer, she would be the one to call. Not only are Dana and Bree two tough ladies, they are also the perfect "parents" for Kayla and Luke. Bree and her team has job security with all the murders that keep happening around them in their quiet little town. Greta made her debut and was a wonderful addition to the police force. They need to buy stock in stuffed hedgehogs. It's hard to believe it's almost been a year since Bree returned to Grey's Hollow.

Definitely recommend the book and all the previous one in the series. I can't wait to see what's next for Bree and Matt. Loved the characters, story and writing style. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

Catch Her Death is the 7th book in The Bree Taggert Series and, once again, we are pulled into an entertaining crime story and, also, a family story. As the Series has grown, so has the involvement of the secondary characters. Morgan Dane even makes an appearance! In this book we have plenty of bad guys, but also plenty of good guys. I can't wait to see where this Series goes next.
