Step into the shadowy world of confessions, where secrets are unleashed and boundaries pushed to the edge. Emilia Haines, a former police officer turned private investigator, takes us on a heart-pounding journey through "The Confession Room," an online haven for the untold truths, where anonymity reigns supreme.

From the spine-tingling outset, Lia Middleton, the mastermind behind this riveting thriller, refuses to release her grip on your senses. It's a relentless rollercoaster that grabs hold of you from page one, making it impossible to tear your eyes away. Brace yourself for a bone-chilling, goosebump-inducing experience that will send shivers down your spine.

In the chilly embrace of November, a confession emerges that questions the very fabric of morality. Murder? Can anyone dare to confess to such a heinous act without consequences?

But the shocks don't stop there. Just when you think you've seen it all, Middleton cranks up the tension, sending it soaring into the stratosphere. Brace yourself for a whirlwind of twists that will leave you reeling. These surprises are like grenades of revelation, exploding right up to the very last page.

The brilliance of "The Confession Room" lies not only in its gripping narrative but in its thought-provoking premise. Middleton's writing is a symphony of suspense, pulling you deep into Emilia's psyche. You'll ride a rollercoaster of emotions, feeling the raw empathy for our protagonist. Amidst the chaos, Ciaran, her ex-lover, stands as a calming anchor, a beacon of serenity amidst the storm.

This isn't just a nail-biting thriller; it's a mirror reflecting society's obsession with voyeurism and justice. It forces you to ponder what we find entertaining in the digital age.

In sum, "The Confession Room" is an unputdownable masterpiece, a thriller that delves into the darkest corners of the human soul. If you relish the thrill of the unknown and are drawn to the shadows, this is a must-read that will haunt your thoughts long after you've turned the final page. Hold onto your seats; you're in for one fantastic ride!

Wondered just how this book would work but need not have bothered as this was actually a dabrastuc read, that grabbed me immediately, sacked me in and kept me enthralled all the way through.
One of the most enjoyable reads I have had in 2023.

Do you ever read a novel, enjoy the plot but really find the main character annoying and can’t stand how she does things?
This novel is that.

I was tempted to lower this novels rating however cannot fault that it did catch my attention with the plot. The writing style had me trying to read as much as possible whenever I had bits of time. And, it was at a consistent pace throughout. So for that it deserves a higher rating.

This novel had me thinking about WTF what happens if you write your worst rants ever, you know those kind of thoughts and actually post it on the internet?

Honestly I wouldn’t trust it. Yes the idea of this website called ‘The Confession Room’ is so you can confess your most mad thoughts/ scary things you may have done or worst things you have done but to actually post it? Doesn’t matter if you hide your IP address I would be afraid if someone could do exactly what they have done in this novel.

I understand the whole morals thing and needing an incentive to keep your victims shut but at the end of the day LEAVE PEOPLE TO DO THEIR OWN REVENGE OR WHATEVER! One couple should not decide to shove their thoughts and make people kill people in similar situations as theres’ had seemed.

The main character really annoyed me because she felt so much guilt and she knew the consequences. She was selfish and told people because it eased her conscious. Over what? At least 3 other peoples life’s and well-being’s + all of their families? She literally risked her own family + at least 3 other families and the consequences of that we find throughout the novel made me see I was right. The main character is a wanna-be good person who actually does the wrong things and I couldn’t stand her as she’s a bloody hypocrite.

Whenever Emilia was getting arrested / held for a while and such I was trying to understand the whole justice thing. I mean, if someone tells you I will kill you if you don’t kill this person your own selfishness will take over. But she didn’t have to go telling the police and risking everyone’s life over her own mind. She was too selfish as a character. And the twist at the end as she changes for the worst instead of develops as a character for the better.

I really enjoyed the plot and the questions of justice and what you think is right and wrong in particular situations a lot. I can’t wait to read more from this author at the same time!

A atmospheric, psychological thriller with a totally unexpected ending. This novel completely gets you in its grip as the story unfolds, so much so it kept me awake at night. I don't know if i can say I enjoyed it only because of the plot- scary and nerve shredding.

Wow-what a plot. A really good read, albeit a little predictable , but it still had me hooked all the way through. REcommended.

OMG. What a book.
I find it fascinating how authors, of any genre, manage to think up plots that are so original and unique. This is a perfect example of such a plot.
Prepare to be gripped. This one will stay with you when you are doing other things, and will linger long after finishing. I was consumed by this, and in the second half, I was giddy with how much I was enjoying it and the twists that came out.
I want friends to read this so I can discuss it.
Thoroughly enjoyable, and in my books of the year. This book deserves to be HUGE.

I love a good thriller and this one really hit the mark for me.

I was hooked from the first page by such an original and unique idea and flew through it in one sitting.

A must-read for any thriller fan.

This book really hooked me from the start. The premise of an online confession room held great appeal and the main character (flaws and all) had me hooked. However about half way through my attention began slipping for a while, only to be regained by three quarters of the way through and that ending was one to die for!.

A very good read with some shocking and surprising elements

Every day Emilia logs onto The Confession Room, an online forum where anonymous users share their secrets, when someone shares that they have committed murder. As more victims are named and bodies start to appear, Emilia's obsession begins to spiral.

I loved this book. I can't recommend it enough.

The plot made for such an addictive read. I finished reading it right before going to sleep and felt so wired afterwards that it was as if I'd had ten coffees! Everything that I had just read kept whirling through my mind, I couldn't stop thinking about it.

The plot is so so clever and actually incredibly dark. Every detail had been thought out to come together in this brilliant story. I found Emilia to be such a believable character because she came across as completely genuine. I could definitely understand how she would become obsessed with the forum.

The shocks and twists in this book made it such a great read that everyone will enjoy.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Emilia was a police officer, but when her sister was brutally murdered she found she could no longer continue so she resigned. She feels guilty about Sophie's death, as Sophie had been trying to phone her during her attack, but Emilia had been busy & not answered. She has become a private investigator .This is not particularly satisfying so she spends a lot of time browsing the Internet. She comes upon a site called The Confession Room where people can unburden themselves of guilty secrets. When a confession appears about a murder & a double murder at that Emilia can't leave this alone, dragging in her ex- Ciaron who is an acting police officer.

This was a bit of a different slant on the whodunnit genre. It kept me interested although I did struggle a bit to engage with Emilia & I didn't like the ending. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

Somethings just cannot be kept to yourself can they? So you write them down and submit them anonymously to The Confession Room forum, and then you forget about it. Life goes on. Until someone confesses to a murder on The Confession Room and posts the proof in a video link. Ex cop and PI Emilia Haynes has posted on The Confession Room and spots the murderer's confession. Can she stop any further killings from happening?

The Confession Room is compulsive thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. What would you do when locked in a room with another person and given sixty seconds to decide which of you lives? Could you live with the consequences? The book grabbed my attention right away and didn't let up until I had finished the last page. I was really invested in who was running The Confession Room and why. I really enjoyed the book until the end, which didn't sit comfortably with me, but I suppose that was the point and it was certainly thought provoking.

Thank you to the Author, Publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

We’ve all confessed to wanting to kill people on the heat of the moment, but given the opportunity would you do it? What if your own life was on the line?

This book starts immediately within the action, with a man being watched waking up in the Confession Room. We also get his point of view, what he sees within the room, the confusion he experiences. And as his story gradually builds, you become increasingly intrigued about the room. Who is he? Why is he there?

Then we go on to meet former police officer, Emilia Hayes. Damaged, grieving, intelligent, morbid Emilia Hayes. She is easy to build a connection with, through her personality and also what she’s been through.

The author set this book up with hints about where the story was going to go… and then the book didn’t go that way. Well-played! I’m not sure how I feel about this—this is meant to be true to life and not fantasy and things don’t always go the way you want them to—but it meant for a more ‘wow’ ending, so it was clever and worked from a more ‘shock’ point of view.

Far from the usual ‘bad guy’, there is a much larger web weaved within this book that has you questioning your own morals and the choices you would make. For me, the wrong and right were pretty clear and there were no winners to be had, but maybe others wouldn’t agree.

As a horror fan, this definitely had Saw vibes within it. I can’t even pinpoint one specific genre, as I could see elements of many different ones within it, so this book is perfect for a wide range of people, as long as they prefer stories with a darker edge.

“The Confession Room left behind many victims. Not all of us are dead.”

Thank you to NetGalley, Lia Middleton and Penguin for this DRC in exchange for an honest review.

Well this was an interesting ride, finding it difficult to write a review without any spoilers as there seems to be so many twists and who can you trust. This is such a scary premise but it worked really well and I was engrossed it was a definite afternoon read for me as I wanted to see what happened and why. It all made sense in the end.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

The description of The Confession Room really had me intrigued, an online forum where you could confess your sins, but unfortunately once I started the book it didn't live up to my expectations. I really struggled to get into the story and I did not like the characters so it just did not work for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

recommend reading 'The Confession Room.' Based on an online forum where individuals can disclose their wrongdoings, no matter how severe. From the early chapters, I found myself deeply invested in this thrilling and engaging read. Middleton's writing style was not only enjoyable but also easy to comprehend, which made it even more captivating.

With every twist and turn, Emilia's character became more complex, making the experience all the more intriguing. Although some parts of the book were predictable, and others dragged a little for my taste, my overall enjoyment was not diminished.

I believe that this is a must-read for anyone who enjoys suspenseful horror/crime books, and would make an ideal book club read as there is a lot to digest and discuss!

This had a good premise and was decently paced. It had me gripped at the start but seems to lose it a little towards the middle and the momentum drops. Overall a good read but didn’t thrill as much as I’d expect!

This is a new to me author so I will definitely check out more of their work.

I’ve not read anything like this premise, so I will be looking for more thrillers such as this. I enjoyed the change in the usual whodonit.

We are taken into the deepest farmers depths of the internet, where it plays with those who have confessed. Leaving people and the reader wondering who is going to be next.

The pace started of really well, I was gripped immediately from the first page. Whilst, the pace slowed toward the mid section of the book it did pick up pace towards the end. The book was full of twists throughout, keeping you hooked and wanted to know More!

I really loved the POVs from those that were chosen to be victims by the murderer. I feel like this really added to the tense, dark factor of the book!

Where the confession room didn’t work;

-I was not entirely sold on the ending and I felt like that was unbelievably and unrealistic🤷🏽‍♀️

-I did feel that whilst Emilia was a former detective-some elements did become like an amateur sleuth 🕵️‍♀️ ( but who doesn’t like to do some sleuthing)😂😂

-Emilia did frustrate me a lot throughout with her desire to cross boundaries, act reckless and have zero regard to consequences for others😨

Overall, I enjoyed this and it definitely give you a lot to think about. What does justice look for you??

Initially I found this book hard to get into at first, but once I did I really enjoyed it.

The concept of the story was right up my street, the authors writing is so tense and at parts I was a tad freaked out, as this could be a real life crime!!

Emilia completely annoyed me at times, but then the epilogue came! So so good!

3.5 stars

Brief overview: Emilia Haines left the police force following the brutal murder of her sister that left her unable to work. When an anonymous user starts confessing to murders they have not yet committed online, Emilia becomes fixated on solving the case and saving innocent people. She’s then named as the next victim…

Ok. I need a minute because WOW. This book had me HOOKED from the very first page until the last! I finished this in just 3 sittings because I NEEDED to know what the f*ck was going on.

Whilst some bits were actually a little predictable, it didn’t ruin the flow or the actual story and there were still plenty of unguessable twists thrown in. I ended thinking ok, cool, great read. AND THEN I READ THE EPILOGUE.

💬 ‘The innocent who do nothing are still guilty after all’

READ IT. *please*
