My thanks to Europe Comics for a digital review copy via NetGalley of ‘Coven’ by Taous Merakchi & Da Coffee Time. It was translated from the French by Anna Howell.
What a delightful graphic novel this was. It follows four friends and their discovery of witchcraft.
Eve, Diane, Lily, and Morgane are concerned that a beloved elm tree in a local park is due to be felled to make way for an asphalt paved picnic area. It appears that all the usual channels of protest have failed. Morgane had recently purchased a book on magic at a local occult shop and so the girls decide to try to save the tree using a spell. They are delighted when their ritual works and the tree is officially protected. Hurrah!
However, soon after there is a series of strange incidents and they discover that they have accidentally awoken a Demon of Chaos! Now they have to find a way to banish the demon before it destroys them!
This was refreshing as many of the panels show the girls doing normal teenage activities including interacting with parents, being in class at school, thinking about relationships, teasing each other, and deciding what to wear to a party. This created a nice balance with the more dramatic and sinister scenes.
I appreciated how one of the girls had a poster for ‘The Craft’ on their bedroom wall, though the girls in the ‘Coven’ are more adjusted than the characters in the iconic film of teen witchery.
I thought that the artwork was striking with a good use of line, colour, light and shade.
Overall, I enjoyed ‘Coven’ very much and while the story was self-contained I felt that the ending did allow for the possibility of a sequel.

i really loved this graphic novel. great characters and a really fun interesting story, absolutely recommend for people that love a little bit of witchcraft

Such an easy, but enjoyable read. Love the main characters and how each were very original and developed. My only complaint is that I was hoping it ended with a cliffhanger so we’d get a sequel!

I LOVED this!! I just don't usually give graphic novels 5 stars because it feels like cheating. The illustrations are. gorgeous and the story flows really well. I found myself wanting more when it was over.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book, via NetGalley. I enjoyed this book, and I couldn't put it down! Would recommend!

A beautiful drawn graphic novel about friendship and diversity with a witch twist. Very enjoyable read

Coven by Taous Merakchi was a super beautiful illustrated comic graphic novel which kind of gave me some The Craft vibes that was wonderful and I liked both the diversity and LGBT+ representation of the characters. Having said that unfortunately I didn't connect with the characters and I found that brought down my enjoyment of this book but I would still recommend this to anyone looking for a spooky book.

A fun little read, perfect for autumn. The cover is amazing, and the witchy vibes were perfect for halloween

So fun and so cozy! The artwork is gorgeous and the characters are so loveable. I loved all the 90s references, especially the horror and Buffy mentions! I found the ending to be a little bit predictable and anticlimactic, but I would still definitely read another comic in this universe.

From first glance this is everything I could have wanted in a graphic novel or novel in general , powerful girl gang trope aswell as the witchiness and paranormal element which is perfect for this time of year however I feel as though some of the topics and characters could be a bit more fleshed out , I also understand that there is only so much you can convey in a graphic novel as opposed to a novel and I will be taking this critique with a pinch of salt as it didnt effect my enjoyment of the book .

A really fun and enjoyable witchy read. Really enjoyed the graphic novel style which isn't usually my typical way of reading, but it was a nice changed. Highly recommend to read during the spooky season.

Thank you to the publishers for gifting me this graphic novel to read and review. Unfortunately, the art style and the writing were not for and I did end up DNFing the book. Once again thank you for gifting me this E-ARC copy. If you would still like to me review this online, please let me know.

This was certainly interesting, and I'm definitely always here for a good girl gang and witchy story. But I felt like we didn't really connect with any of the characters or really understand any of their relationships with one another. Definitely an intriguing idea, but I needed a little more from this one.

I received this book for free for an honest review from Netgalley
Go good love the representation.

I’m not an avid graphic novel reader but I did enjoy this one. I feel a little let down by the lack of LGBT relationships but it was nice to see some character representation. Overall a cute spooky read perfect for this time of year. 🎃

Coven was such a fun graphic novel! This reminded me of a fun, light version of the craft. I did figure out part of the twist at the very end but it didn't affect my enjoyment in any way. I would really love to read a sequel of this!

I've really been into witchy graphic novels lately, and was excited to be granted a review copy of Coven by Taoys Merakchi. It's a dark fantasy story about a group of witches who have to fight against a powerful enemy that threatens their world. The book has a lot of action, magic, romance, and twists that kept me hooked until the end.
The main characters are Lila, a young witch who has a mysterious past and a hidden power; Remy, a charming and loyal warlock who is Lila's best friend and love interest; and Zara, a fierce and cunning witch who leads the coven and has a secret agenda. They are all well-developed and have their own personalities, strengths, and flaws. I liked how they interacted with each other and how their relationships evolved throughout the story.
The plot is fast-paced and full of surprises. There are some scenes that are very intense and emotional, especially when the characters face danger or betrayal. The author does a great job of creating a vivid and immersive world, with rich descriptions of the settings, the magic system, and the history of the witches. The book also explores some themes like identity, loyalty, trust, and sacrifice.
However, I felt that the ending was too rushed and left some loose ends. I won't spoil anything, but I was expecting more closure and resolution for some of the characters and the main conflict. It seemed like the author had to wrap up everything in a hurry, without giving enough time to develop the final events and their consequences. I was hoping for a more satisfying and coherent conclusion, or at least a hint of a sequel.
Overall, I enjoyed reading Coven and I think it's a good addition to Taous Merakchi's bibliography. It's a thrilling and captivating story that will appeal to fans of dark fantasy and witchcraft. I would give it 3 stars out of 5, because I liked most of it but I was disappointed by the ending.

Overall, I thought Coven was pretty great and I hope there will be more installments in the future. I first chose to read Coven because of the artistry, which was done in the chef kiss style. Even the conclusion had a twist I did not anticipate and even answered some questions I had. It aided in the coven's upgrade to a 4 star rating. I suggest it to everyone who like the witchy 90s atmosphere, a friend group where each character has a unique personality, and those looking for a short read.
We appreciate NetGalley and Europe Comics sending this book for review. My views are mine alone.

Perfect spooky gothic book for this time of the year. Great art and the illustrations were amazing. Would love to read more from the author again
