A tense claustrophobic thriller. Lucy has panic attacks following a traumatic event in her past. When her estate agent phones to say they are running late, Lucy agrees to show the buyer around her property. It quickly becomes apparent that the mysterious man who comes to view her home has a disturbing agenda – and something is very, very wrong! The climax is nail-biting.

I was looking forward to this book as the plot sounded so good and it did have a very promising start but it took ages to act get into it to find out what was going on and Lucy’s physiological descriptions and reactions were too over hyped and went in for too long for me and I began to get bored. There were a few unexpected twists towards the end but altogether a bit too far fetched and unrealistic for me.

This had me gripped. It was full of tension and twists and was fast paced. A little far fetched at points, but it worked and I read it very quickly. I'd recommend.

I have just finished this book and wow. I would have finished in last night but my husband insisted at 1am that I needed to go to sleep.

It was a bit of a slow start and I couldn’t really understand why Sam’s support group kept interrupting the main event and it was as the book went on that it started to make more sense.
We are currently selling our house so I found the relationship between Lucy/Louise and Bethany a bit too over friendly and not very professional. I will be leaving the viewings to our agents in the future though.

I did think Bethany was in on it with Donovan at one point and then the whole Sam spin had me in a mind blown state. That threw me right off. That was a really good plot twist.

Was the whole story believable- well it was dramatic, quite crazy and if someone had told me that it had happened to them in real life I probably wouldn’t believe them but I think my sheltered life is probably to thank for that.

It was well delivered and a pretty good, dramatic storyline that kept me gagging for more.

This book had been on my radar for a while, and when a friend recommended it, I couldn't resist diving in.

The short chapters made for a quick read, and the way each chapter ended seamlessly flowed into the next, making it hard to put down.

However, I found the middle section, particularly when Lucy was showing the stranger around, to drag a bit, and the plot veered into overly hectic territory.

Despite this, the portrayal of Lucy's anxiety was masterful and entirely believable, adding depth to the narrative and heightening the tension throughout.

While this was my first experience with C. M. Ewan's work, it certainly won't be my last. I highly recommend this captivating read.

This was such a rollercoaster of a read! Tense, fast paced and full of twists and turns that I couldn't put it down!

I was completely engaged with this book. My sympathy was with Lucy and her insecurities and how much she relied on her supportive partner, Sam. I felt the tension from the very start and it increased tenfold as the story unfolded.
Pacing was good, it's not a short book page count wise, but it really didn't feel like that. I whizzed through it, rolling my eyes all the way!
loved it and can't wait to see what's next.

This psychological domestic thriller was a captivating experience for me. The fast-paced narrative and compelling twists made it a definite "just one more chapter" read, ultimately turning it into a 'read in one day' kind of thriller.

The subject matter, which I won't spoil, intrigued me, and the book's original and clever take on the genre stood out. The characters were not only believable but also well-written, adding depth to the overall story. I found myself hoping for retribution for the 'baddy,' while simultaneously rooting for the protagonist.

The story begins with a seemingly simple premise—an estate agent running late and asking the homeowner to show a prospective buyer around. However, as events unfold, tension escalates and never lets up. The result is a tense and claustrophobic read that left a lasting impression.

This book has convinced me to explore more works by C. M. Ewan; I highly recommend it to those who enjoy thrilling and well-crafted psychological narratives.

The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.

This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

This is the first book I have read by C.M Ewan . I enjoyed the writing style and would like to read another book by this author, but I found this book personally to be a little confusing to follow in parts.

The book is told in two narratives of the main characters. One being Lucy, who has anxiety and a fear of being watched for which she is being treated for. The other being Lucy’s boyfriend Sam whom is a therapist who specialises in phobias but doesn’t seem to believe Lucy’s fear is genuine. Lucy and Sam live together in a house that used to belong to Sam’s grandparents. In Lucy’s perspective is her experience is showing someone around their house, and in Sam’s he is as part of his research for phobias hosting for his clients.

They are selling the house and the estate agency calls and asks Lucy to show a potential buyer around the house last min. Although she is reluctant to do so Lucy agrees. The client Donovan is an odd character, who quickly makes Lucy feel uncomfortable around him and with his behaviour so asks him to leave. It turns out Donovan is NOT who he claims to be!!

The story line is good, with lots of suspense, The only reason I am scoring 3 and not 4 is that I found it hard to follow at times and confusing.

I think I’d class this as a psychological thriller. It’s a bit difficult to write a review and not give away any spoilers so I’ll keep this short and sweet. It’s very well written, I felt on edge reading it and I’m not an anxious person! I was hooked from the start and just had to find out what was going on. I definitely recommend this book. Thank you #netgalley

As I currently have my house on the market this was a very apt read.
At the beginning I struggled to see how a dodgy person viewing your house could stretch out to a whole book but as it was interspersed with what was happening with the boyfriend at work it all flowed well. Characters were flawed but believable. I was doing OK until one point in the book where I suddenly became very confused about who was who.
A good book, an exciting read.

Took me weeks to get through this and I don’t know why? But I have discovered that I’m not so drawn to books by men

The House Hunt by C. M. Ewan

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Your estate agent calls.

She’s running late and needs you to show a man around your home.

You let him in and begin the tour.

But something about him feels wrong.

You ask him to leave and he refuses.

Then he tells you something about you – something inconceivable.

Why? And how far would you go to find the truth?

My Opinion

This was one of those books that I had heard about and knew that I had to give it a read to find out what happens. This is the first book I have read by C. M. Ewan but I am certain it will not be my last as this was a delight to read. With short chapters this book was quick to read, and with the way that the chapters end it was so easy to just keep reading on. This has been written in such a way you can feel the tension. A great, highly recommended read.

Fantastic! Read this on holiday so was able to read it all at a very fast pace. Loved the storyline and the plot twists were so good! I was sad to finish it.

A whole lot of possibility, but the book doesn't quite deliver in the end. The middle part, when Lucy is showing the stranger around dragged quite a bit, and then the plot went a little too crazy. All I can say is that Lucy's anxiety was superbly done, and very plausible.

Another super twister thriller from C W Ewan. I can see this as a TV drama. A couple have inherited a property and cannot afford to finish the renovations so they put it up for sale. Lucysuffers with anxiety from a past anxiety and a her husband Sam is a Psychologist. Sam is busy managing a group of people and their phobias when Lucy is at home waiting for the estate agent and viewer. The estate rings and will be late so here the anxiety levels raise. The eery prospective buyer arrives to view the house and Lucy is extremely anxious and......I'm not giving the story away.
However it's extremely interesting to find out that there's a client with a phobia connected to the viewer.
This is a fast paced book and has a real twist that you dont see coming. I loved this book! I can't wait to read the next one!
My thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an advanced copy in return for honest review .

I had to remind myself to breathe whilst reading this book. From the very first page I was on the edge of my seat trying to anticipate what was going to happen next. The author does a brilliant job of introducing tension throughout with characters who are believable and relatable.

The book is set around a house viewing, but that’s all I can really divulge without spoiling the plot. There are surprising twists and the author keeps up the suspense throughout. This is the first book I have read by this author but I will be on the lookout for more novels by C.M. Ewan.

Recommended for anyone who loves a real page turner with drama in a domestic setting.
