This was a cute quick read. Enjoyed the characters and the magic. Very light hearted and fun. Would recommend

Hex and the City by Kate Johnson is a sweet and spicy romcom that will certainly have readers turning the pages.
Poppy is a witch with magical hair that sometimes seems to have a will of its own, and no matter where she goes or what she does chaos seems to find her, despite her best efforts and those of her coven mates. When she accidentally curses a pendant all hell breaks loose. The pendant is purchased by the gorgeous and brooding stage magician Axl Storm ahead of a string of sell out shows in London. When his assistant wears it on stage that night chaos reigns, she is badly injured and the theatre so damaged that the shows have to be cancelled. Poppy realises that she will have to retrieve the pendant to try to reverse the spell, but will she be able to do it without revealing her secrets to Axl, or will the fake magician be converted to believing that magic is real. It certainly doesn't help that the pair are incredibly attracted to each other, or that the secrets they are both hiding could be their downfall. This is a light hearted funny romance, and will certainly brighten the day of anyone who picks it up. Readers may be familiar with the author's previous book Hex Appeal, and while this is not a direct sequel a familiar face or two may make a cameo appearance in the pages. I was impressed with the pacing of the story as well as the characterisation, there is plenty of action to keep the reader engaged as the story unfolds.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

This book is charming as hell!!! Whimsical lovable characters paired with a middle paced moving plot. I dare you not to smile while reading this. I wanted more of a connection between the fmc and mmc.

There was one part revealed toward the end that is spoiler I will not mention in detail just that it made me cringe and didn’t seem well placed with the couple I wasn’t already sold on together.
For NetGalley: The one thing about the book that made me cringe was him sleeping with her birth mom.
Including my Amazon profile as I am unable to review on Amazon until release.

This was a delightful read, fast paced and very engaging. I thought the characters were well rounded and developed. .

If someone was looking for a cute but spicy witchy romance to read, that's fun and fast paced. I'd recommend this one. While I wasn't a big fan of the main characters I still truly enjoyed the story. I would most certainly recommend this to customers in my store. The story is great and easy to follow, and the cover is very appealing .

"'I nurture things', says Iris, as a plump kitten wandered in. 'Kittens, plants, grudges.'"
Sexy, spooky, spellbinding and just a bit silly — this was a magical romcom full of laughter and love.
Our leading lady Poppy was an absolute hot mess and I mean that in the best way — this story was pure, beautiful chaos all the way through complete with time travel, escaped ghosts, magical hair, brooding viking magicians, and an adorable but overweight tomcat. She was a joy to read about, her narration was quick and witty, rambling at times but in a way that actually made her haphazard storytelling quite endearing.
As for the romance side of things, there was definitely a bit of sizzle in this one — it was a delightfully steamy romance that was so much fun to indulge in. This was full of your favourite tropes and characters but wrapped up with a little bewitchment and mischief to make it even more fun.
Under all of the romance-crazed, shimmeringly sexy drama, there was also a lot of heart — women who owned their sexuality, their identities, their flaws, their strength and their power in a beautiful display of sisterhood and acceptance.
If you’re looking for an something easy, fun and a little magical to read tonight - this should definitely be on your radar.

This book is a really quick read, and they story moves along pretty quickly. A popular good looking magician fall for an actual witch. It was nice to know though the FL is bi and the book has LGBTQ+ rep. Personally I had to push myself through the book. I didn’t like the ML and thought he was just annoying. Plus there’s the miscommunication they have with the second guessing that comes from the FL at times. But it wasn’t badly written, and the story line is cute I just couldn’t vibe with it.

Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Okay, but I LOVED Poppy and Alex! I was hesitant when starting this book because I've recently read a few witchy books that did not live up to the hype and I was worried this one would follow... But it didn't!
Oh this story was absolutely adorable and I found that it kept me on my toes! I had to know what would happen next! I enjoyed Poppy's character growth and how Alex helped her along the way without even realizing how much he meant to her. There where a lot of laugh-out-loud moments and a few parts brought tears to my eyes.
The ending got messy - as any good romance book does... and that mess was so chaotic - because, duh, she's a chaos witch! For a brief moment I hoped that it would be uncovered that Alex actually had some sort of magic, but thinking back now, I like that he didn't!
I didn't realize that this was a second book in a series - I just to go find that one and read it as well! I will most definitely be adding both books to my physical library!
A great read for a rainy fall day, or even on the beach or while travelling!
PS... I WANT HAIR LIKE POPPY'S!!! Her hair is it's own character in this book and I also loved it so much!

This was super adorable! She's a Witch with magic that can only be described as chaotic, and he's a playboy actor who accidentally buys a Cursed amulet from her for his last fling to placate her. What could possibly go wrong? It is a great little story about learning to love oneself, even when you think the world is against you.

Hex and the city was a cute, little romcom. I did have a hard time really getting into the heart of the story, but after I got about 3/4 of the way through the storyline seemed to move along a bit faster.
Alex is also axl raine. He is a performer who is quite wildly famous for his sexy shows.
Alex ends of meeting poppy who unbeknownst to Alex is a witch. And unbeknownst to poppy she is a chaos witch.
They are on a mission to find a necklace poppy accidentally cursed to hopefully stop the chaos going around the city.
Poppy finds out she was adopted, meets her mother and falls in love with Alex.
Cute little rom com that includes some witchy details.

REVIEW: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily giving an honest review.
Hex and the City is the story of Poppy, a twenty-something witch who lives in London, and Alex, a famous performer. It follows them through a few weeks of crazy magic as Poppy learns more about her elusive past.
This book was kind of…a lot. There was always something more happening, some other weirdness that Alex and Poppy had to go through. While this was interesting at first, it kind of got to be a bit much and I found myself wishing it would slow down a little for some character development or something.
I also really felt that the romance was not believable, and that it moved way too fast. But if instalove doesn’t bother you, then maybe this is the book for you. 🙂
This book simply didn’t grab me the way I hoped it would when I requested it, but it’s not a bad book. To me it was more ‘meh’ than anything else.

This book was such a great refresher with all the heavy books I’ve been reading lately. I think as much as I love reading thrillers and fantasy it’s always nice to pick up a silly romance book to cleanse.
Hex and the City was a great book to do that. It was witty and filled with all the great chaos that you want when you pick up a book like this. I couldn’t help but get a smile on my face on multiple occasions.
My only issue was that I felt that the ending was quite rushed and I would’ve loved more moments between Poppy and Axl so I could’ve enjoyed their connection more.
Overall, this was a fun read and I enjoyed it!
Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for providing me with this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book was so much fun. I loved reading about all the magical mishaps and all the chaos that Poppy and Alex had to deal with. They were also really cute together. While their relationship definitely progressed very quickly they both had amazing chemistry together.
My one slight complain is that each chapter felt a little on the long side. I felt the need to take a break every now and then after reading a few chapters.

I’m a real fan of witchy romcoms and felt it needed to be autumn snuggled under a blanket reading this!
It was a bit slow to begin with but once I got into I loved the heartwarming and charming read. I really felt I wanted to explore the world myself with some of the characters (cat and dog fencers!!). I would love to dive back into this world again.
Josh and Essie I didn’t find had lots of chemistry.
All in all it’s a fun book with an amazing world and side characters. Just wish the main romance had a little more spark!

My Rating: DNF
This book was unfortunately not my cup of tea. The writing style, characters, magic system all just didn't add up for me. The main character was "quirky" and chaotic--annoyingly so and the magic system didnt seem to have any boundaries as far as I read. The description interested me but unfortunately I couldn't finish the book.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK/One More Chapter for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was such an interesting read! I found myself so engrossed in the story, the characters had such incredible arcs, and I can't wait to follow this author's journey!

I absolutely love a good witchy ROM-Com and this book hot the spot for me. I can just picture Poopy with her magic hair and chaos all around her. So super cute and definitely a book I will recommend for anyone wanting witchy laugh out loud fun!

Hex and the City’s title is the first thing that caught my attention. The book is what kept it. Such a cute story about a witch, Poppy, who is a bit chaotic anywhere she goes and is learning to accept that about her self. she is unlucky in love and that is what brings her into the path of Alex or Alec as his stage name suggests. She sells this illusionist a cursed pendant by accident and then tries to get it back before it hurts someone. The chaos that ensues helps to push them together as they discover who they really are and what really matters in life. I did find it frustrating that Poppy judged Alex so harshly and didn’t talk to him first about certain things that happened in the book. The chemistry between them was fire, quite literally sometimes and they had a bit of a love hate vibe going at the beginning which was well done. The writing is great and the storyline is faced paced. A really fun read especially when even the hair becomes an interesting character in the book as well!

A big thank you to Kate Johnson, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Hex and the City comes out September 3, 2023
In this humorous witchy romcom, a witch and a famous illusionist are drawn together after the accidental sale of a cursed necklace. Poppy's not only possesses magical hair that likes to eat thing it shouldn't, she also has magic that is unpredictable at the best of times. After seeing her ex making out with another woman, she accidently infuses her magic into an amulet that is then sold to Axl Storm who happens to be a very famous magician. What ensues afterwards is a delightful adventure featuring time-travel, ghosts, magic, chaos and romance.
I'm going to be honest it was really hard for me to get into this book, but once I passed the first 30 pages I couldn't put it down. Poppy is such a relatable and likable female character, whos character growth was fun to read. Axl was a simp of a main male character, he fell first and he fell hard. The side characters were fun and supportive. If you are looking for a sexy, funny, witchy romance, I highly suggest Hex and the City.

ARC Review
Story 4/5 ⭐️
Dual POV
Third Person
A drunken witch and a pendant to be cursed, what can go wrong! The book follows Poppy and Alex trying to break the curse
I enjoyed the connections between Poppy and Alex, it is very much insta love. The secondary characters were really likeable and added to the story.
I hadn’t read the first book in this series but this didn’t have any affect on this book. The only thing I struggled with was the third person narrative but once I got used to it, I did enjoy the writing .
I would recommend this book and looked forward to reading the first in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this Arc in return for my honest review.
