Hex and the City is a fun, quirky witchy read. I really liked Poppy’s character and her chaotic magic and the development she goes on throughout the book.
The story is fast paced with enough drama and twists to keep you reading on. I loved the relationship between Poppy and Alex and the input of the other witches throughout the story.
Overall a fun witchy read that fans of magical books with enjoy!

Poppy Thistlefoot is a witch who works at Hubble Bubble Magic Shop designing jewellery. Oh so gorgeous Axl is a popular illusionist and he is in the market for something nice. While shopping, Poppy accidentally sells Alex a cursed pendant, and from there on both Poppy and Axl must work together to find a way to break the curse - before everything gets worse!

Hex and the City is a charming, laugh out loud adventure full of chaos and witchcraft. I had nothing but good vibes from this read and would absolutely seek out Kate Johnson in future books. This book is the second in a series, but can be read as a standalone too. Recommended for fans of The Ex Hex & The "Stay a Spell" series. Make sure to mark your calendar, this one hits shelves on 14th September, 2023.

Thanks to HarperCollins, One More Chapter and Netgalley for an advanced copy to review.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book and I was engrossed from the beginning till the end. There was nice character growth and development and the plot was pretty good with a few twists. This book stands well on its own, even though its the second in a series. Overall, very enjoyable. *I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I was in love with Hex Appeal so I had high hopes for this book. It didn’t have the same magic for me, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. Chaotic witch? I definitely saw a lot of myself in her character. Kate Johnson writes some of my favorite magical/cozy books. She’s an automatic read for me, everytime.

Oh this was just so incredible! I've been on such a fantastical romance kick lately and this was the perfect addition to my ongoing roster! Magic aside I think a lot of people (myself included) can see a bit of themselves in Poppy, a bit awkward, clumsy, and is just taking life day by day. 1 accidental curse & a theater fire later and suddenly she's taking care of a hot viking stage magician. Hex and the City was such a fun trip through a few days of absolute chaos, while getting to see the growth of both Poppy & Alex. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun mystical romance with a bit of drama & adventure!

Thank you to Netgalley and the phblisher for approving me for this arc!

I loved this book so much. It was such a quick read and I’ve been loving witchy books recently and this did not disappoint. I read Kate’s first book a month ago and I found this on Netgalley by chance and I am so glad I did because I just loved it. The whole vibe, plot, characters, the way in which everything was described and I loved how the different aspects were used such as finding out about being adopted which you don’t see often especially when the FMC is nearly 30 years old!

Full disclosure: I thought Hex Appeal was only okay. I hadn't planned on reading the next in the series but I am so glad I did because Hex and the City is so good! It's funny, fast-paced, sexy, and absolutely full of magical fun and adventure.

Rapunzel and Manbun, er, I mean Poppy and Alex are adorable together and I loved his attitude about her being a witch. After the initial disbelief and questions about how the tricks work, he just kinda goes with it. Star of the show though is Poppy's hair. Some of the subtle lines about what her hair was up to had me literally laughing out loud.

There is insta-love happening but it actually works in this one. I mean, we're talking about witches, magical houses, broomstick riding, sentient(?) hair, and figureheads coming to life. Insta-love is the last thing you have to suspend disbelief over.

Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an early copy in exchange for my honest review.

Hmmmm. So, this book was pretty chaotic for me, and I’m not just talking about Poppy’s witchy powers.

I wanted to like this book and loved the blurb, but the story felt so chaotic and like too many ideas were thrown together in an attempt to create the story — it really felt like everything but the kitchen sink was put into this one.

It was still fun to read at times, but the love was too insta-love like for me as well. It just didn’t quite work for me.

I’m not sure if I will be trying another book by this author. I’m not opposed, but we shall see.

This was a fun witchy little romance read. I felt like the storyline was very original and the characters were so unique and fun. The story is told through alternating perspectives and is written from the third-person perspective, so it felt a little odd but it didn't really affect the overall story. Definitely a rom-com and the spice was picked up a little from the first book.

4/5 stars

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

The story was good. The characters were witty and had a bunch of charisma. The writing style was simple to read and I had no issues with understanding what was going on. It's more of a romcom fantasy which I am here for. Its a little bit of magic and a whole lot of fun

A cute and fun witchy read! I'm a little new to hte universe because I didn't read Kate's other books, but you can definitely read it as a stand alone!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC of this ebook.
This is one of those utterly bonkers books that you’ll either completely ‘get’ and love with a passion, or discard. I’m massively in the former camp. Adored it. Will read it again and can’t wait for further instalments. It really is fabulous.
I’ll give it 150 stars.
Or 5 for the purposes of NetGalley.

This book was quite wacky and chaotic and all over the place with magical plot points. I don’t think it needed so many different magical plot twists and it became hard to follow and I could not figure out what the point was of it all. The ending also didn’t do it for me. I love a witchy romance, but this one just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I really, really wanted to love this book!

There are a lot of great things to say about Johnson's writing style. I absolutely adored the cheeky banter between the characters, and the author's playful witch-y details were so much fun (e.g. Poppy's magical hair, Malkin the cat...). Unfortunately, I found that the whole book had a random plotline where seemingly unrelated things happened with little to no pay-off. Similarly, the ending didn't have much pay-off for me; I wish that Poppy had developed as a character and learned to control her chaos magic, rather than the book simply taking a "it-turns-out-that-everything-was-Else's-fault-all-along" approach to things.

That being said, this is such a fun book. Definitely a fluffy, light-hearted read that will appeal to many!

This book was so nice. It was really funny, I laughed out loud so many times. The characters were well written and you could really feel for them. The story is great, I like the whole cursed pendant thing and all that magic. And it was kinda steamy.

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it's definitely more aimed for a teen, I really didn't connect! But that doesn't mean you wouldn't or that it's bad writing, it just wasn't for me!

But thank you Netgalley and Kate Johnson for the early release

I love anything witchy so I got excited when I saw this book. I also liked the cover!unfortunately it was almost a DNF for me but I did decide to finish it. There was a lot of characters which made it hard to follow the story. It definitely reads more like a YA which don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy reading YA’s. This book just wasn’t for me. Thank you NetGalley, Kate and HarperCollins UK for the ARC!
