I really wanted to love this one because the description drew me in, but it fell just a little flat for me. While I love a witchy romance, maybe it was because I read it in summer and not fall? I did love the main characters and their development but something with the side story just irked me.
I will read another by this author…. I want to see if it’s just me.

I loved the first book and I love the second even more! While I don’t consider myself a huge fan of romance titles, this series is telling me I’m a liar! I love the Poppy, her coven, her friends, everything about her. This series is just fun. engaging and really hard to put down!

I can’t get enough and am already looking forward to the next entry! I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a bit of magic and fun!

Thank you HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. My review is my own and not influenced by others.

The beginning had a lot of info dump and felt chaotic but overall it's a cute rom com with witches, romance and humor.

This series is SO fun! I love the characters and I hope that there are many more books. Especially one about Avery.

DNF at 30%. I wanted to love this, the premise sounded so good but it just wasn't for me.

As much as I tried to immerse myself in the story and enjoy the characters I just couldn't bring myself to feel anything for them. The story just seemed a bit to chaotic for me to keep up.

I received a complimentary ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have read some of Kate Johnson's books in the past. When I read the synopsis of this book I was excited to have a fun witchy read! This book delivered just that. The characters were fun. There was just enough chaos to keep you on your toes. You were really rooting for Poppy and Alexx. To be honest I wish this was a series and you to read more about the characters including Iris and the 'coven'. The only part that I was like that went too smooth but was still ok was the conversation with her parents about herself.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This book was hilarious, it makes you laugh. I fell in love with Poppy's hair!! Amazing. Her chemistry with Alex is pretty off the charts. Craziness ensues but a really fun story. Very entertaining and enjoyable. Would highly recommend. 4 stars

Big fan of witchy romances here, and this is a fun new read with plot twists, sentient hair, and inclusivity. Poppy is such a fun main character, working through her life as a young witch whilst saving an illusionist performing in London. Alex/Axl is sorting out who he is behind the smoke and mirrors, falling for the girl with real magic. It was nice that he was the self-conscious one, great to see a kale character show this vulnerability for a change. Might have been nice to know more about Else’s motivations, and less about Alex’s package, but overall had some interesting characters (and yes, the hair is most definitely a character)

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

Thank to Netgalley and publishers for the arc of Hex and the city by Kate Johnson.

If there’s a witch in the book then I’m in. Such a great book to curl up with and disappear into another world.

Props - Equally as good as Hex appeal.

Witch, jewelry designer, and saleswoman at the Hubble Bubble Magic Shop, Poppy Thistlewood has always left disaster in her wake. But her most recent snafu tops them all. After a night of drowning her sorrows, Poppy drunkenly curses one of the magic shop’s pendants and promptly forgets what she has done. Popular illusionist Alex Raine, stage name Axl Storm, purchases the pendant and unleashes chaos throughout London. Now Alex, Poppy, and Poppy’s sentient hair must work together to reverse the curse and restore everything to normal, all while dealing with restless ghosts, emotion based time travel, and an evil trickster witch.

This was a delightfully charming read full of madcap adventures and spicy romance. Sweet, sunny Poppy and sexy, smooth Alex are perfect. They both suffer from childhood traumas, feelings of inadequacy for Poppy and bullying for Alex, that have left scars into adulthood. They’re able to help each other work through their fears making them stronger people. Johnson is hilarious and filled this book full of irreverent escapades, witty dialogue and quirky characters. The callbacks from Johnson’s previous work, Hex Appeal were a fun addition, tying the two books together and leaving the reader wanting to see more from this world. Happy, magical goodness!

Poppy and Axl are an absolutely delightful pair. It’s witty and fast paced, with the chemistry between Poppy and Axl on fire (literally 😉). Funny and steamy and soooooooo hot. The coven are hysterical.

London features prominently, including a great experience of the Fire of London. Axl is the cutest, sweetest, dreamiest cinnamon roll, whose faith in Poppy and acceptance of her (considerable) witchy-ness is a joy to read - and Poppy with all her insecurities and courage and charm, is just delicious.

I laughed out loud, chuckling and snorting as these two stumble towards their HEA. If you liked the ‘Rivers of London’ novels you’ll love this. I can’t wait for the next Hex instalment from Kate Johnson.

Five stars. Thanks a million to NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Looking for a charming, whimsical read that combines romance and witchcraft? Look no further than Kate Johnson's Hex and the City!

Poppy is a witch with magical hair and a penchant for getting into trouble. She works at a Covent Garden magic shop that only sells fake magic - until she accidentally sells a cursed pendant to Axl Storm, a swoon-worthy celebrity magician.

Axl is six-foot-four of pure charm, and Poppy can't resist his magic - even if it's all just an illusion. But when their fake magic turns all too real, chaos ensues. Will the two be able to fix the mess they've made, or will their magical mishaps lead to something more?

I particularly enjoyed Axl's honest, sweet personality - he's the perfect match for Poppy's impulsive nature. And while the book is a bit on the light side, with a plot that's more cute than complex, it's still an enjoyable read.

Overall, I'd give Hex and the City a solid 4 stars. It's definitely worth picking up if you're in the mood for a fun, witchy romp. So brew yourself a cup of tea, light a few candles, and settle in for a delightful read!

I loved this book! It had many surprises that I did not see coming. It was like a rollercoaster ride in the best possible way, with excitement, anticipation, nervousness and comedy too.

Truly had me laughing out loud many times. The chaotic situations are very entertaining. With the perfect amount of spice and swoony flirting along the way too. I burned through this books fast as I could not put it down. I will read it again!!

Thank you to Net Galley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, One More Chapter for the free ARC for my review.

I absolutely loved Hex Appeal by Kate Johnson, so when I heard she was releasing another book in the same universe, I had to read it. The witchiness of the plot, the easy banter between lead characters, I quickly fell in love with the main couple in her first book, and it took no effort at all to return to the love I had felt for former side characters that had finally taken the main stage. For anyone looking for the perfect lighthearted romance this fall, check out Hex and the CIty for everything you need.

The writing is a bit of an info dump in the beginning to the point where I was convinced this was book 2 in a series. The vibes are good and the romance is cute, but the pacing here is not my cup of tea. The pacing felt very fast and a little rushed but overall it was a fun read.
