This was so fun! This paranormal read was about Poppy, a witch with long rapunzel hair. She’s new to magic and the love interest is a celebrity magician. This one felt so magical and perfect for the witchy fall season!

Hex Appeal was one of my favorite witchy romance books last year, so I was beyond excited to get the ARC for Hex and the City from @onemorechapterhc! This latest installment didn't disappoint, and I loved every minute of the characters' wild adventures!

Just give me all the witchy romances set in this world!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this novel!

In Hex and the City, we meet Poppy - she might be a witch, but things never quite work out as they should for her, and she’s never been quite as powerful as the other witches she knows. When she meets the magician Alex, hiding behind a facade of his own, she starts to explore more of her powers and uncovers a plot to change the world as she knows it.

This was a fun, easy going read that was perfect for the October season or when you’re just after a witchy read. I liked Poppy as a character, and loved the other witches she’s surrounded with - they were great fun! The romance was also perfectly pitched, and I enjoyed the

For a witch novel though, I found the magic elements themselves a little disappointing, and some of the ‘look how British this character is!’ was a bit on the nose.

If you’re on the lookout for a kind-of-witchy romance before the end of the year or next spooky season, this wouldn’t be a bad shout - I’ll be looking for the other book in the series next year!

I really enjoyed this! I got way more into the witchy drama of it all than I thought I would! Poppy is a witch, but not a very good one… Everything always seems to go wrong, especially when she meets stage magician Alex, whose show and life she sends into chaos. The romance between Poppy and Alex is so addictive, as well as the character development they both go through in this story! It’s so easy to become immersed in this witchy community. It’s lighthearted, but also pretty dramatic and spicy. I enjoyed Hex Appeal so I was a little disappointed to not get an update on Essie and Josh with the appearance of other character from Bedlam House!

What to expect:

- witchy drama
- found family
- he falls first
- reformed playboy

When I started Hex and the City, I was worried that it was too shallow for my tastes. Poppy and Axl's personalities were "a lot" in the first few chapters. Thankfully, it all gelled into a fun, magical romp, and I ended up really enjoying their chemistry and romance. I give this book a solid 3.5 /5. I recommend it to anyone wanting a witch-themed romance novel.

This is such a fun engaging witchy romance. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was so quick to read.

This book made me jealous I couldn’t visit Ivy cottage. There were so many lovely secondary characters. Malkin the cat was amazing.

Poppy is very chaotic in all the best ways. Poppy and the book are very quirky and I loved it.

This felt like a story for all the girls who has been told they were too ‘weird’ and then found someone who loved them because of it all.

The perfect book to read in autumn with a hot drink. This was the first book I’ve read by Kate Johnson but I’ll definitely be reading more and recommend you do too.

I read this over the Fall and it was such a fun book to read while the leaves were falling!

It was way more quirky than I was expecting in the best way and my only complaint was the lack of spice.

This author was new to me and I hope to read some of her previous books!

A fun seasonal read, perfect for fans of a good rom com and the characters were well drawn and likeable - without being too stereotypical!

This was fun and flirty and exactly what I would have been in the mood for in September/October...I'm kicking myself that I didn't end up able to get to it on my TBR until late November.

I loved Hex Appeal, and this was a fun, fast paced, quirky and often times hilarious continuation of the adventures of the London witches that I have come to love so much!

1. As I explored Hex and The City, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of witch I would be. My affinity for the medicinal and healing arts seemed like a perfect fit. It made me smile just thinking about it! 😂

2. Hex and The City is a captivating tale filled with thrilling time travel adventures and a mischievous magical mane. It's a non-stop entertainment ride!

3. While Hex and The City is a great choice for a light-hearted autumn read, certain parts may require more attention. It's a book that deserves to be experienced in its physical or digital form, as the plot intricacies may be confusing in an audiobook.

4. Huge thanks to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book. Although I received it for free, all my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hex and the City by Kate Johnson

This is a fun witchy rom-com and I loved it!

We have Poppy who is a witch that sometimes has a little bad luck with her magic and Axl who is a gorgeous magician who travels the country with the magic show.. Poppy designs jewels and works at the Hubble Bubble Magic shop and one day Axl comes in and buys a necklace for his girlfriend. What he doesn't know is that the necklace is accidentally cursed by Poppy. This is the start of some unexpected happenings and Poppy and Axl have to work together to reverse the curse.

I enjoyed reading this book a lot.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Hex and the City was the perfect witchy read! Really good fun, action packed and i loved the romance.

Fabulous characters, a pacy plot and just such a fabulous light read to loose yourself in. I couldn't put it down and devoured it in a few days.

It's perfect for that bit of escapism, best enjoyed with a hot drink of your choice and a cosy blanket to curl up under!

Any one who enjoys magical reads will love this one!

Poppy and Alex meet when he comes into the shop she works in and he buys a necklace she drunkenly cursed. Obviously, havoc ensues.

This was a fun rom-com with some heat to it. I loved Poppy's sentient hair and could picture Alex as his performing alter ego, Axl Storm. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything that I would say someone HAD to read.

A perfect cute witchy romcom! Poppy was such a relatable main character and I loved seeing her develop throughout the story. Definitely a more lighthearted spooky read, but still a great one for the Halloween season!

Kate Johnson is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors of witchy-lit. This book was quirky, chaotic, sexy, and fun. It was a thrill of an adventure to go on. I already can't wait to see what Johnson writes next.

Things you should know about Poppy:

1. She’s a witch

2. She has magical hair like Rapunzel from Tangled

3. She lives with Iris, the head of her coven, in a beautiful, ramshackle house next to Highgate cemetery

4. She works at Hubble Bubble, a magic shop in Covent Garden. Though none of it is real magic as that would be highly irresponsible. Until…

…Poppy accidentally sells gorgeous celebrity magician Axl Storm, all six-foot-four of him, a cursed pendant.

When all hell breaks loose can the guy with fake magic and the girl with real magic fix the chaos they’ve caused? Or will sparks fly both in and out of the cauldron?

My Opinion

I am not sure why it has taken me so long to get around to reading this book but finally I have gotten around to it. This was a delightful adventure that is filled with chaos. This is one of those books that is going to make for a cosy read during the darker months. An entertaining read that will put a smile on your face.
