Rebecca yarros writes us a second chance love story that is a dual timeline split between DC and Afghanistan. It was fairly easy to get through and I liked the premise. Not sure I cared about either one of the main characters but still a decent read. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

"In the Likely Event" by Rebecca Yarros is a poignant and stirring narrative that explores the intricate tapestry of fate and choice. Yarros, known for her emotionally charged writing, delivers yet another compelling story that tugs at the heartstrings.

The novel opens with Izzy Astor boarding a plane, expecting nothing more than the usual holiday travel experience. However, seated next to Nate Phelan, a man with an alluring blend of rugged charm and piercing blue eyes, Izzy's journey takes an unexpected turn. Their connection is immediate and profound, and just as quickly, their lives are upended when their plane crashes into the Missouri River.

From this harrowing beginning, Yarros weaves a tale that spans years, following Nate's path into the military and Izzy's rise in the political arena. Their lives, though separate, are bound by the shared trauma and the undeniable bond formed in those critical moments before the crash. The narrative deftly alternates between past and present, revealing the depth of their characters and the growth they undergo as individuals.

Yarros' writing shines in her portrayal of the characters' emotional landscapes. Nate's protective instincts and Izzy's resilience create a dynamic that is both believable and endearing. The romance that unfolds is not just about love, but also about healing and finding strength in vulnerability.

"In the Likely Event" is more than a romance; it's a testament to the human spirit's capacity to endure and thrive amidst adversity. With its rich character development and gripping plot, Yarros confirms her place as a master storyteller in the contemporary romance genre. This novel is a must-read for those who seek a story that is as thought-provoking as it is heartwarming.

Note, a decent read, I am just not a fan of romances.

Wow what a great read, I did not see that ending! Had just the right amount of suspense, action and romance. A edge of the seat read! Izzy goes to Afghanistan to find her missing sister. She meets up with her on and off again boyfriend Nate who is special forces there to help with the evacuation of Americans from the embassy. With his friends he must protect Izzy from the Taliban.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review

Rebecca is really good at giving me heart attacks. A book where you find your soulmate on a plane back home and then literally 90 seconds after take off...your plane is going down and crashes into the Missouri River?!!!! I was hooked Immediately, cus I mean what can keep you apart now that the worst has happened??
Time. The timing is always wrong.
Dang this was a good one, I love me some military romance books, I think Rebecca might be the queen of them!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of In the Likely Event by Rebecca Yarros in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I really like the way Rebecca Yarros writes so I was very excited to be approved before all my friends to read this book. This book is absolutely amazing and left me speechless when I finished it. I have told everyone I know to read this as soon as they can!

Grab your Kleenex! Rebecca Yarros’ ability to pull you into the story is magnetic. No matter how much you promise yourself you’re only going to finish your current chapter, Yarros’ storytelling gift that great that you can’t stop when you get to the end of the chapter. In an addition to a compelling, beautiful and romantic, Yarros knows what her readers want, and her ability to create emotionally charged unputdownable storylines is the most addictive book!

Rebecca Yarros has an pleasant writing style, that is one of the only reasons that I kept on reading this book.
The book isn't bad per se but the army/war segment of this story wasn't my thing. I'm good with reading about war in fantasy but when it reflects real life, no thank you!

It was a nice and refreshing change to read a romance/Suspense lovely by Rebecca Yarros as opposed to fantasy. I listened to this on audiobpok as well and really enjoyed it.

This book is just as good as Fourth Wing although it is nothing like it! A steamy hot romance with so much tension the pages could snap. It starts on a plane and may end with your life.

Thank you NetGalley and RY for this amazing ARC!!

I will first say, I am sending Rebecca Yarros my therapy bill. Because I cried SO much!! She has such a way with words and she is so good at writing that I felt the emotions of the characters like they were my own. I felt love, heartbreak, and devastation throughout the entire book. And when it was done, I felt peace.

A poignant tale that will grip your heart and squeeze it tight, The Likely Event is a 4.13-star triumph. Yarros deftly weaves a tapestry of love, loss, and longing as her characters navigate the unpredictable waters of life. Their journey may break your heart, but it will also lift your spirit with its message of hope and second chances. Set against the stark but moving backdrop of military service and political aspiration, this book will stay with you long after the final page. Yarros has crafted an emotional powerhouse that is not to be missed.

“In the Likely Event” by Rebecca Yarros sounded really promising for me and although I didn’t read Fourth Wing (yet), I really enjoyed “The Things We Leave Unfinished”. At first, I was really engaged in the storyline and I really appreciate Yarros’ writing style. However, it felt like this book didn’t quite reach the high standard of “The Things We Leave Unfinished”, leaving me with a sense of “missed potential”. The storyline felt unnecessarily prolonged to me. I didn’t really understand why certain subplots were there, the pacing felt off at times, making it difficult to maintain a connection with the story for me.

The military setting definitely adds a unique element, but I couldn’t help having some mixed emotions about the story unfolding in Afghanistan during the refugee crisis. The use of such a sensitive and recent issue as a setting for a romantic storyline felt inappropriate at times.

Despite my reservations about certain plot elements, the characters’ evolution throughout the story was nicely done. Izzy and Nathaniel’s characters are well-developed and they undergo significant growth and development. However, I didn’t really feel connected to them and the buildup to the ending didn’t really engage me, leaving the conclusion feeling somewhat underwhelming and not as emotional as it was likely meant to be.

Overall, a decent read, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book!

Rebecca Yarros can do no wrong. This talented author can write any genre and pack it with so much drama, soul, and emotion that its hard not to get so invested in the story. In the Likely Event is a contemporary romance that can be read as a standalone.
This story follows main characters Nate (Nathaniel) and Izzy (Isabeau) who first meet on a plane and the story goes from there. Told in dual POV in past and presentsettings, I loved getting insight from both characters. The emotions, chemistry, tension and connection was perfect.
A military romance with bodyguard, forced proximity, second chance that will bring out an array of emotions from you, this story will have you laughing, crying, swooning and will definitely leave you wanting more of Izzy Astor and Nate Phelan.
If you haven't read Rebecca Yarros before, then this story is a great book to start with.

Honestly, I am still not over Rebecca Yarros's In the Likely Event. Put aside her Fourth Wing and Iron Flame phenomenon, Rebecca Yarros writes the hell out of an angsty, emotional contemporary romance. This is the case for In the Likely Event. She doesn't take it easy on her reader with Nathaniel and Izzy's story, just as she doesn't with any of her other couples. In the Likely Event metes out its beauty over the course of time. Yarros deftly carries us through their estrangement and eventual reconciliation, and she shows us that there is nothing better than a protective, sacrificial male coupled with an independent woman with fortitude. The HEA for this story is what romance dreams are made of.

Rebecca Yarros's In the Likely Event is an emotionally beautiful romance worth every word.

Slow burn romance, dual timelines, great chemistry between characters — this book has it all. It was an enjoyable book that I have already recommended to friends.

It was a 3.5 star read for me. So I loved Fourth Wing, however this one didn’t hit the same sadly. I found out military romances just aren’t my thing. I did like how the characters met and their chemistry. I loved the dual pov as we found out a lot about the characters this way and also loved that we got different timelines - chapters about the past where we found out more about the past relationship between the main characters and the present where the story/romance further developed.

Izzy Astor is returning to University after visiting with her older sister for the holidays. And she’s flying back, which she hates to do. Her seatmate though, a ruggedly handsome guy with mesmerizing blue eyes, makes her forget about her fear until [cue Alanis Morrissette’s song Ironic, in which the guy whose afraid to fly as the plane crashed down, he thought, well, isn’t this nice] the plane has problems. From that point on Izzy and her seatmate, the exceedingly wonderful, Nate Phelan are irretrievably linked. And there’s more to come in Rebecca Yarros’ In the Likely Event.

I have been head-over-heels in love with every Rebecca Yarros novel I’ve read up until this one. But. BUT, don’t get me wrong this one was not horrible. It was just too long as if Yarros thought she needed to detail everything about Izzy and Nate’s relationship during the in-between years from the plane crash to their now-point in Afghanistan.

In the Likely Event really worked when it was in the present, when Izzy and Nate were being tested and not at all found wanting. But the flashbacks that were supposed to show their growing love or the failure sometimes only showed the flaw in the relationship. In a couple of instances the flashbacks felt unnecessary. A paragraph of description would have sufficed.

I did like that Nate was always considerate and thoughtful of Izzy. I did like that Izzy took her current job to stop a war that kept Nate away. I did think that when Nate ridiculed Izzy for choosing someone who had once dumped her to be her fiancé, that she said quite clearly that “he was there,” indicating that Nate rarely was. Which ultimately becomes the problem for In the Likely Event as a great love story. You have to be there.

Many thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy.

I'm not usually a military romance type of gal, but we tried it based on other novels that we love by Rebecca Yarros. I didn't like it friends. I found it boring and I had to pick it up several times and try and try again. It took a page out of the SJM book while they were having steamy scenes in-between literal combat and I did not find the FMC or MMC likeable. I would say, try another one by Rebecca and you'll probably love it more than this one.
