This was a fun, interesting and informative read. Milad, The Singing Dentist, takes on a journey not just through his own life experience and route into dentistry but dentistry itself. It was fascinating to read about how the practice of dentistry came into existence and how it has changed over time. Due to the timing of this book, there is also an insight into how the pandemic has changed dentistry and the impact that has had on both individuals and business, as unlike many other parts of the health service dentists are businesses. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and had a giggle and learned a little along the way.

I am going to start my review by admitting – I am not a fan of going to the dentist. I’m not alone in that and that could have been a reason for me to not pick up this book, but I read the blurb and I had heard about the Singing Dentist so I was intrigued and wanted to give it a go and find out more

Now I have read the book I can honestly say that it really was good. The book itself was well planned out, I liked the story about how his profession was picked when he was young and I really enjoyed the stories from when he was learning his trade at dentistry school. There were more than a few tales in the book to make me smile and it was a genuinely uplifting read.

The writing style was fun and the book was easy to read – I didn’t think I would become a little addicted to a book about dentists but there you go – I was and it was a book I looked forward to picking back up.

The book touches on Covid and the impact from that on those offering dentist services and the move from standard treatment for some to them wanting cosmetic surgery – he doesn’t mention it specifically but we have all seen the horrors of those getting “turkey teeth” and the poor dentist based back home that then have to deal with the aftermath of the botched surgery.

The last story in the book was brilliant and I loved that was how it ended – such a positive one and I loved that his style, approach and ultimately his personality have made dentists on the whole seem a little less scary!
