Another amazing outing by chandler baker. Fun and thrilling at the same time this is a summer must read

This was down right weird. I found the bits about the class mom's quite funny and the relationships around the parents and children, also the way the parents protected the children. But Vampiric children made out to be a real thing? Two different stories in one book that just didn't meld.

Darby, Mary Beth, and Rhea all have young children at school. However, there seems to be a pattern of bad behaviour with them all. They have all started biting - parents, each other anything.
Then their teacher is found murdered and the only witnesses are ten young children.

Thankfully this is not a stage I ever encountered a mother and I'm glad. The descriptions of the behaviour were quite disturbing and you could feel the pain. I wanted to know more about whether something had triggered them but that was never covered in the book.
I didn't predict how things would turn out and who would be responsible and was quite a plot twist.
The book as a whole showed that parents will do anything to protect and nurture their children.

Unfortunately I had to dnf this book just after 10% mark. It might be a case of it’s me not the book but I just couldn’t get into it at all and maybe I will pick it up again but not very soon. I’m so sorry.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy

As a nanny when I saw a book about blood sucking children I just couldn’t resist! There was definitely a few funny bits / references in the book and overall I did enjoy it. I do feel however that there was something missing, maybe a little more into the children starting to drink blood?

This book was so different and I was not expecting the vampiric child route. There was so much funny parts and the author really showed the struggle with parenthood. I love the creepy child trope but this one didn’t fully do it for me, but I can see it being enjoyed by many others.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read an early arc of this book

Vampire children! No, no no, this subject matter is not for me! Had I realised this, I would not have requested it.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this book.

This is clever and sharp but a bit too crazy for me. I can see the appeal and I enjoyed some parts but vampiric children were just not my thing.

"'The wonderful thing about breastfeeding is that it's free', she had read. But was it? Did it cost her nothing? Because if so, her time, energy and mental health must be valued at zero, in which case I everyone else's opinion, she hadn't made a sacrifice at all. She hadn't given anything."
I wanted to enjoy this, having enjoyed The Husband's, but I just couldn't get my head around the key part of the narrative - vampiric preschoolers - which to be fair I knew when I requested to read it. With Baker's trademark humour and sarcasm, it's deftly plotted, felt pacy, and the characters are well-drawn, I although struggled to relate to them. Her observations about motherhood in particular are absolutely spot on.

Unusual story that wanted to enjoy but too ,any things in the story that I didn’t inc the the vampire children and other characters so for me was a DNF

I'm sorry but this book was not for me. I didn't like the characters, their attitudes to their children. Their children even! The story was so preposterous I couldn't finish it. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy. All opinions are my own.

I absolutely flew through this book - I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, and was also laughing constantly. A pitch perfect look at modern parenting, wrapped up in the perfect suburban suspense. Brilliant. Chandler Baker is one of my favorite authors for a reason!

Overall, I didn't like this book very much. I struggled with the idea of the vampiric children and the parents' willingness to feed them blood and I think I could have accepted it more if it had been better explained. In addition, the characters were largely unlikeable and I found the ending far too deep, having consideration for what had come before. That said, most of the book was readable - I just did not like the subject matter and did not like the ending. Having said all that, it'll probably stick in my mind for a while! Two and a half stars.

I'm always on the lookout for books that are a bit different and this one certainly ticked the box. It was shocking and funny and a good whodunit, but at its core it also asked some relevant questions about parenting, and the author managed to identify so many things about small children that are difficult to deal with as a parent.
I haven't come across this author before but will definitely be hunting out her back catalogue.
I also enjoyed that she encouraged me to go down the rabbit hole of Renfield syndrome - is it real or did Noll make it up to lampoon psychiatric diagnoses as he claimed, maybe we'll never be sure!
Thank you to netgalley and Random House for an advance copy of this book

I read an eARC of this book so thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing this.
Wow this book was wild! It was so funny, clever and shocking at times!
4.5 stars, This would have been five stars but I had one really small issue that I didn’t feel the cause of the illness was explored enough or resolved sufficiently at the end. This likely won’t bother other people so much but it left me wanting a bit. Otherwise this novel was excellent!
The writing was so good! The author managed to make you feel really invested in these characters. It’s such an ordinary setting and it’s so fun to see how the characters deal with such a weird situation. The differences in approach, the herd mentality that affects some, the difference in expectations of mothers and fathers.
This novel has three different characters we follow and I found I was completely invested in all three. There was no points at which I wanted to speed through one to get to another. They were all distinct, complex and fascinating in their different approaches to their children and challenges they are facing.
Also vampiric four year olds is just such a cool premise! This is such a unique take on a vampire story and I thought it was brilliant!

I tried to like this book but it wasn't for me. A strange storyline with vampire children and the characters were not very likeable sorry.

There is a medical condition going around Little Academy Preschool. The kids are craving blood.
When a teacher is found murdered, the only witnesses are ten four-year-olds. But it soon becomes clear that the children aren't just witnesses, they're suspects.
Darby, Mary Beth, and Rhea are friends and parents of children at Little Academy Preschool and when their little ones become suspects the moms become suspects too.
This was great from the off and I couldn’t really fault it but it got a bit messy and at points I was like wtf is going on here. But then it started to come together and it made sense. The ending had a twist that I didn’t see coming but what I can’t get my head around is the fact that the parents gave into the kids cravings and fed them the blood they were craving. A strange but interesting book which kind of was a murder mystery with weird vampiric kids.

Welcome to the murderous side of motherhood. Cutting Teeth is a dark, twisty murder mystery with a shocking look into the shadowy corners of family that nobody tells you about.
This is a strangely compelling story that on the surface is full of feral children, useless husbands and superficial mothers — stereotypes of suburban life. But underneath is something dark and deeply disturbing, with countless strands to the plot and each person going on their own strange journey for better or worse. There’s an intense discourse on the judgement and sacrifice that comes with being a mother, and even if some of the mothers were unbearable at times there was that weird shred of empathy I just couldn’t shake.
This strange medical mystery becomes a murder investigation that is dramatic, convoluted and goes deeper than you’d ever have thought. Another absolutely spectacular scare from Chandler Baker.

This was totally not what I expected - but i loved it! Weird, vampire children and lots of twists... what isn't to love lol
