Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this book, it's very relatable as a fellow cat lover myself. Lots of laugh out loud moments as well as emotional ones and I really liked the message of the story.

Totally gorgeous book. 10000% relate to the love for animals and the hole that they fill. The anxiety isn’t always easy but they teach us how to love. Thanks for sharing

I had mixed feelings about this book. The writing was excellent and I found Mia's perspective towards the world and the people around her quite captivating. It definitely resonated in some parts. However, there were some relationships that seemed like they were given a 'quick fix' towards the end to make them likeable and potential friends for Mia, which was a bit jarring.

Overall, a solid three-star read.

No no no. If you like cats, do not read this book. Just don't.
It's depressing and horrible.

I like cats. This book looked and sounded like a cute and fun and possibly feminist read, so I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we didn't get along at all. It's neither cute, nor fun or feminist. Mia is not a quirky fun lady, she's toxic, like almost everyone in this book. She's a people pleasing pushover, crazy and I really didn't like her. I didn't like anyone. Except maybe Lee, who was kind of sweet. And Fliss.

The story is weird. Not in a hilarious way. The things that happen, the way people interact, all of it just felt really icky. Also, there are many deep topics in this book, but they felt flat and did not get the depth they deserved.

I thought this book would work with the stereotype of Cat Ladies and show that not everyone who loves their cat is a crazy weirdo. And it did talk about this topic. But no, this book is literally about the stereotypical crazy cat owner. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be ironic, but to me it seemed like the book is simply making fun of people who love their pets.

The ending was kind of sweet though.

This is a difficult book to rate and review, as there are parts that I thoroughly enjoyed, but unfortunately there were also parts that made me feel extremely frustrated and made me question the book as a whole. Was it the style I didn’t get on with, or was it intentional by the author to create a frustrating storyline?

The relationship between Mia and Pigeon, her beloved cat, was utterly bizarre. Don’t get me wrong, I can totally understand a strong bond between human and animal, however, there were moments where the plot felt so extreme it was difficult to continue reading.

That being said, about halfway through it did start to pick up, and the reason as to why Mia’s relationship with Pigeon was so … strong … was uncovered. This really helped provide context, backstory and allowed the storyline to finally progress.

Finishing on a positive note, I enjoyed the concluding chapters to this book and I found them rather touching. It’s just a shame that the rest of the book wasn’t as captivating.

Thank you NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and HarperFiction for my gifted copy of ‘Cat Lady.’

3/5 stars.

I think Dawn O’Porter is brilliant! I’ve read So Lucky and was pleased that her sense of humour has remained the same. - Marmite fanny anyone?!

I really loved this book, full of quirkiness, warmth but also heartbreak as the book deals with pet loss. (I cried every day for a month when my cat Rufus died, then the days got easier and it is reassuring to know that there are other ‘crazy cat ladies’ out there!) There is no such thing as just a pet 🧡

Thank you for Netgalley for my copy.

This is the first of Dawn's books that I've read and I enjoyed it. It follows Mia, who has done all the right things when it all starts to unravel and she has to figure out who she really is.

A big fan of Dawn’s book she writes honestly and I feel from her own life experiences! This book didn’t disappoint, loved Mia, a strong, feisty, independent woman! It made me laugh and want to read at every opportunity

Cat Lady, by Dawn O’Porter

I really enjoy Dawn O’Porter’s witty, dry, humour and she delivered again in Cat Lady, where she explores some serious issues, including grief, abuse and raw emotion, cleverly interweaving laugh out loud humour to ensure that her readers experience ALL of the emotions on this rollercoaster of Mia’s life.

The grief counselling group were made up of some fabulously eccentric and unapologetically awkward characters, who revealed their raw emotions in a way that made some parts uncomfortably relatable 😂 and Mia’s workplace reminded me of so many toxic office environments and made me cringe and laugh all at once.

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

And I will never be able to look at a sharpie in the same way again… 😉

I have read a couple of Dawn O'Porter's books so I guess I knew what I was getting into. But for me, Cat Lady just went a bit too far with the weirdness. The relationship with her cat was borderline teetering and I was worried about what I was going to read when she mentions wanting her cat to lick food off her back. Then there is the weird sex scene with the guy from work - what the??

Mia just came across completely unhinged and it was difficult to warm to her when her reactions to events were very very bizarre.

Cat Lady by Dawn O Porter in

Mia has made all the right choices. She’s married, she has the nice house, the good career. But life isn’t about fitting into a box. And there’s another woman inside her who’s just clawing to get out . . .
I'm not the sort of laugh out loud reader but this book set out to prove me wrong.
Loved it !

I loved this book!! I am a fellow crazy cat lady, with 4 cats (also a partner and 2 kids however!). This book is for cat and dog lovers alike, and literally brings a smile to your face, It emphasises that whatever is going on in your life, a cat will always make things better :)

I loved this book! Even though I am dog lady through and through I loved the premise of this novel and I love the message it sends to readers. It is a story about a woman who potentially has it all but feels as though someone is missing. I loved her journey to find her happiness and I am so excited for readers to enjoy it as well. I finished this Novel feeling refreshed and inspired and I know readers will do the same. This book is for dog and cat lovers alike ;)

Cat Lady is another winner from Dawn. Everything Dawn writes is magic, and I was thrilled to be given the chance to read Cat Lady.
We meet Mia, a happily married hardworking woman who adores her cat Pigeon. Piece by piece, Mias world around her crumbles, and she doesn’t know how to put herself back together again. Along the way she learns that she can’t do it herself, it really does take a village, and hers is the most unusual but special one of all.
