Unaware that this was part of a Disney Princess modern retelling companion series, I found the concept intriguing and hoped for updates to reflect modern times. Despite Ariel being my least favorite Disney Princess, I appreciated the musician twist on her story, maintaining the essence while avoiding the outdated trope of sacrificing her voice for a man. Though slow to start, I grew to enjoy the 'found family' dynamic on tour, alongside Ariel's evolving bond with her sisters. Her character growth throughout was heartwarming, making me eager to explore more books in the series.

It’s cheesy and full of banter and butterfly moments. I really enjoyed it. The writing style was easy to get on with and the storyline was super fun.

This is the second book that I've picked up in the Meant To Be series and it was another fun retelling of a classic fairytale.
It did maybe feel more like a YA romance than an adult one. But to be honest, I wasn't expecting a steamy romance from this series.
I liked the celebrity/pop star element and how it took the story in a fresh and interesting direction.
It blended what we know and love about The Little Mermaid, with new elements that kept me gripped the whole way through.
I also really liked them as a couple and enjoyed how they dealt with the villainous character too.
I would definitely recommend this to fans of the Disney classic, fairytales and romances more generally.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you much to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC! This is by far my favourite of this series!

This is the third book in a series of romance based on fairy tales. This one is a The Little Mermaid retelling. Ariel Del Mar has spent her life in the limelight as a member of Siren Seven and she is looking forward to some time off. When her father reveals he’s actually already planning her solo career she takes off with Eric Reyes and his band Star Crossed on their US tour. Eric and his band are desperate to make something of themselves and this tour is make or break for them. Can he keep focused on success or will his heart lead him astray?

I loved this one! It was a breath of fresh air in the series. It was written really well, the characters felt three dimensional and I actually rooted for the couple and felt their chemistry. This is my first time reading any of Zoraida Córdova’s work (despite having more on my TBR!) and now I’m even more excited to check it out. I loved that the main female character was a curvy girl, like all of the characters in this series to be honest, but it wasn’t made a big thing of if that makes sense. We’re not a different species, we’re still human you know? Her size wasn’t mentioned every five minutes or negatively in some books with curvy main characters which I loved.

I adored the characters in this book. I really wanted Star Crossed to make it because each member really deserved it and had their own unique motivations and dreams. Grimsby being obsessed with Guinea pigs was honestly relatable. My Mum and I used to run a sanctuary of sorts and at one time housed 16 at a time! I also loved the cultural aspects that were woven through and the effortless nods to the original Disney film. My only complaint is that I was kind of disappointed in Eric and his reaction to Ariel eventually telling him who she was. He said himself that the thing that hurt him most was that she’d thought the worst of him when he was also doing the same to her and had believed her manipulative father over her while knowing everything he knew. It kind of took him down in my estimations.

Apart from that this was an absolute joy to read and I recommend this one wholeheartedly. You don’t have to have read the first two to read this one as well if you don’t want to! This came out on 3rd August so you can grab it now.

I know that fairytale retellings get mixed reviews across the board, but I love them. I love seeing the unique takes on well-known stories and the familiar elements of a story I know and love. I’ve been enjoying the ‘Meant to Be’ series of retellings with the latest instalment being Kiss the Girl which is a unique The Little Mermaid retelling.

Zoraida Córdova certainly had a difficult task in having to retell a well-loved, iconic and popular fairytale. But, I would say that it is something she did incredibly well and I certainly enjoyed my time reading this book. She brings in elements of her own heritage throughout the book which I enjoyed too.

Ariel del Mar is one of the world’s most famous singers. Along with her sisters, they have been a pop culture phenomenon since they were kids. On stage, in her iconic red wig, anyone would think she’s the girl who has everything. But lately, she wants more. Specifically, a summer living a normal life but her father has other plans. So, when Ariel and her sisters sneak out for a night at a rock concert, she crosses paths with Eric Reyes and he invites her on the road for the summer of course, she says yes.

I think this story translates itself into a celebrity/rockstar romance book perfectly. I loved the fact it is set in the music industry giving the overall story a completely different angle to the well-known tale. I liked seeing all the little easter-eggs from the original tale as well as some little cameos. It allowed for the story to feel unique but familiar at the same time.

The one thing I would have liked to see more of was the actual romance between Ariel and Eric. I feel like what we did get to see was more surface-level. It was cute and sweet to read about but it felt more like a YA romance to me than an adult romance. Plus, at parts I did feel like things were thrown in so another trope could be ticked off a list.

I will certainly be looking out for more books by Zoraida Córdova in the future as I am interested by her writing. I would also say if you’ve not given the ‘Meant to Be’ series as a whole a go yet, I would definitely recommend that you do.

Overall, Kiss the Girl is a fun, unique and sweet retelling of The Little Mermaid that made for an enjoyable read. I would recommend this is you are a fan of the well-known tale but also if you are on the lookout for a celebrity romance book!

I was never the biggest Little Mermaid fan (I watched it once when I was five and was so traumatised by Ursula that I refused to ever watch it again). BUT. I do love the premise of The Little Mermaid, and so I knew I still wanted to read this retelling! I loved the pop star dynamic, I thought that was such a cool twist on the original tale, and I especially loved how Ariel's relationships with her sisters was at the forefront of this retelling. It was really fun, easy to read, and lighthearted. Eric and Ariel were super cute, and despite it being insta-love, I thought it was actually quite well done (which is very rare for me to say about anything insta-love). The side characters were also really great, and the twist on the "villain" worked so well!

I think if you loved watching The Little Mermaid, if it was your favourite Disney movie, if Eric was your favourite Disney prince, then you should absolutely pick this up. It's true to the original, while still being able to stand on its own, and this has made me a lot more intrigued to pick up Zoraida Cordova's other work!

When I realised this was part of a series, I wasn't sure whether to pick up the others first but actually I think they're all standalone in their own right (woo for me).

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. It was a simple story but the narrative felt complex. Ariel/Melody and Eric had a great connection on the page and I loved the interactions between the band. It has the found family aspect in those characters and I love that in my books 🥰. The MCs also functioned without each other which was great and kept the gooey romance to a minimum making it a cute build up.

This was my first book from the author and I'm definitely curious about her other books now. The style gave me just enough to keep me reading and tbh it was refreshing to not have a contrived drama that dominated the arc (hated Ariel's dad though - that was enough!).

Really nice easy read. Great nods to The Little Mermaid whilst being original and very much it's own story.

Loved the characterisation, and will be looking for more from this author.

Thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for the review

I had no idea that this was part of a Disney Princess modern retelling companion series, but the concept of this just sounds very fun, and I was hoping that some of the more outdated parts of the stories would be updated to reflect today's world. Ariel is probably my least favourite Disney Princess, but I really enjoyed the musician twist on the story that still kept the essence of her voice being taken without the literal sacrificing of her voice for a man. I did find this a bit slow to get into, but I ended up really enjoying this - the whole 'found family' element of the whole group on tour, while Ariel still maintained such a close bond with all of her sisters, was very heartwarming, especially as Ariel really grew into herself as the book went on. I'm definitely interested in checking out the other books in this series now too.

Such a cute The Little Mermaid Retelling.
This was so cute and fun to read it gave me all the nostalgia vibes and happy feels while reading it.
While having some of the same parts of the Disney Movie it was also so original in its writing.

With a delightful cast of characters and some dramatic filled moments this is a must read for all Mermaid fans

This is for the little mermaid lovers. It’s musical, fun, and overall really enjoyable. A story that I just adored every second off. The mix of the OG and this contemporary was so exciting to read.

Music sensations meet the Little Mermaid in this retelling.
Ariel is determined to get out from under her father’s thumb while Eric dreams of making it to sold out arenas. After a chance encounter, Ariel seizes her chance to escape and ends up on Eric’s tour. Sparks fly but so do secrets.

It’s cheesy and full of banter and butterfly moments. I really enjoyed it. The writing style was easy to get on with and the storyline was super fun.

Ariel Del Mar is one seventh of popular girl group the Siren Seven. On the final day of what should be their goodbye tour, she finds out from her father that she will be forced into a solo recording contract. She agrees but rebels, seeking a night out on the town one last time. She saves the guitar of Eric Reyes, singer of group Starcrossed. They have an immediate connection, and after an amazing night together, offers her a chance to escape from her overbearing father and have an adventure of her own.

I truly loved this story. It was such an interesting retelling of the classics Little Mermaid story, with nods to the original that really worked as Easter eggs but totally in their own way. This version of the story twists on everything we know from the original and I loved that it kept me guessing.

The writing is really brilliant. The characters were so fleshed out and I was routing for both of them. Both Ariel and Eric have complex back stories that are handled well and I really felt like I knew their extended cast of characters and how they interacted with them (which is impressive given we get to know each of Ariel’s sisters!).

The music elements were so well thought out and I could really picture the tour bus as well as all the music venues. I loved learning about each of the musicians and would love to actually hear them all play and sing!

I just had such a good time with this and really hope other little mermaid fans have as good a time reading it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for providing me with a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.

I enjoyed this nice chill easy read. I loved spotting all the Easter eggs to the little mermaid. Great main characters despite wishing we learnt more about Eric. I liked the backstories and the news paper clippings. I enjoyed the world and the stories however just wish we had a little more development and the story went along a bit more.

This is a modern rendition of my favorite Disney movie, "The Little Mermaid," where the story unfolds in the music industry. Ariel and her sisters form a pop girl band. King Triton now reigns as a prominent figure in the music world, owning his record label. Meanwhile, Prince Eric takes the lead singer role in a band, embarking on their first major tour.

The narrative is heartwarming, and the characters are immensely likable, making you cheer for Ariel and Eric as they make the sweetest couple but also adore the close family feeling from the band and Ariel's sister. Keep an eye out for the delightful references to "The Little Mermaid," such as the rowboat scene, tattoos, and Ariel's sisters playfully teasing her as a "guppie."

Thank you so much to Netgalley for the ARC!

I happened to read this one while camping at a music festival, which just added to the atmosphere and enjoyment. This is my first read by the author and I really enjoyed it. What's not to love about a Little Mermaid retelling? This is an instalment of the Meant to Be series, reimagining Disney favourites. In this one, Ariel has been singing in her band Siren Seven with her sisters for as long as she can remember and is feeling trapped and suffocated by the lifestyle their father is pressuring her to live. Eric is in an up-and-coming band and when they meet sparks fly(and he doesn't know who she is without her stage peraona!). This was a fun read and I found myself staying up late to read "just one more chapter." This is a must if The Little Mermaid was a childhood favourite, or if you enjoy stories with romance, family dynamics, and a musical setting.

Romance Disney style!! This new part of the Meant to Be Collection is inspired by the Little Mermaid, with Ariel in a band with her 6 sisters and Eric is in a band of his own. Uplifting, heartwarming and joyous, the perfect summer read!
