What a beautiful short story!
With a feminist twist, Galatea is a haunting and brutal modern retelling of a Greek Myth. Galatea was sculpted by Pygmalion and his vision of how the “perfect” woman should be. He loved her so much that she was brought to life by a goddess. However, it soon becomes clear that their relationship is troublesome. Galatea just wants to be free from her overbearing creator, and the ending of this short story was symbolic to say the least.

I would love to see more short stories like this from Miller! Absolutely brilliant!

Thank you Bloomsbury UK and Madeline Miller!

Miller has taken a story so ingrained in culture and put her beautiful spin on it, as usual. This short story provides a masterful snapshot of the life of Galatea, the creation of sculptor, Pygmalion. In such few pages is a testament to Miller’s characterisation.
