This is a detailed, well illustrated sourcebook for a student of the Crimean war. I could see it being useful for gamers and modelers seeking precise detail on uniforms and various corps and units. That said, it is meticulous but not exhaustive and not all powers got equal attention; Turkey seemed to deserve more focus, relative to, say, Piedmont.
I enjoyed the illustrations but they vary in quality, being drawn from public domain sources. So don’t expect consistent color plates. The text around the organization of the French, Russian, and Turkish armies was substantial and especially informative. The British army is covered in over a third of the book in the amply illustrated first chapter.
