I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Book of Quotes Volume 1 is a book I had high hopes for but unfortunately was left rather disappointed. I love quotes that speak to me and am always writing them down from books I've read or googling them for inspiration. Unfortunately, none of the quotes spoke to me in this book at all. It may just be that it isn't the right type of quotes book for me and may speak better to others but I finished this feeling flat and uninspired.

This is my first book to read by Reuben Harry and I appreciate the Kindle ARC from #Matador and #NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I like quotes. Whenever I find one that speaks to me, I write it down in my journal or on my Facebook page or on a Post-It. And so a book of quotes is my jam.

I'm disappointed that I didn't enjoy this book. The format was typical - the quote was at the top of the page in bold print with the author summation below. This style makes it easy to read. In other books with the same format, I'd read until I came to a quote that I liked enough to write down and then I'd stop reading that book for the day so that I'd remember the quote easier. I didn't have that experience with this book. The overuse of explanation points made me feel that the author was yelling or, at the very least, extremely intense. The book also has several grammatical errors, e.g., the misuse of your/you're. It was difficult to overlook so many errors. I finished the book in one sitting.

The author noted that all of the quotes were his own. Maybe? It seems that a couple of quotes were also said by other folks but I did not verify one way or the other.

The personal information about the author at the conclusion of the book made me believe that I'd enjoy talking to him if I met him. I like the format of the book and I like the idea behind it. However, I would not recommend it due to the grammatical and punctuation issues.

1 star = I did not like it

"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."

It was not for me. It came across as almost superficial. Something about the writing was off-putting, although I can't put my finger on what it is.

- Includes Inspirational, motivational and relatable quotes, and 8 affirmations.

- Wide topic selection for the quotes e.g. worry, suffering, fear, regret, patience, teamwork, determination, faith and so on. Not all quotes resonated with me but there were some thought-provoking ones. Some leave you with something to think about or to do; could act as prompts for journaling.

- Quotes vary in length - some are sentence long, half a page, full page long.

- There were a few grammatical errors but nothing too severe.

- Images added some variety. Nice-to-read personal story from author at the end.
