Interesting set up with some cool characters and worldbuilding. Overall though, I just didn't gel with the story. I enjoyed it enough to continue but something failed to connect for me. Cool concept though.

It is hard to find something to say about this book, mainly because it is just so odd. You might think this is a bad thing, but my favorite thing in the world is a well told story that is just a little weird. This meets that perfectly. Just when you think you have it figure out you get new information and that is exciting. I can't wait to listen a second time and see what I missed. I really enjoyed it.

What a fun and creative story! It is a combination between Men in Black and Ghostbusters! Yes, that weird, but it works! I totally loved each second and I laughed out loud so many times, and I. DO. NOT. LAUGH. When I read!

Dear Intergalactic Exterminators, Inc.,
I came across you on Netgalley, and was really excited for a quirky, fun space adventure. Unfortunately, I think you took yourself too seriously. While your premise has room for much absurdity, you seemed to fall short. Your story was endearing and so were your characters, so you had that going for you. I loved the Chromeman and what he came to represent for the story as a whole. I know that with the right reader, your humor will hit the mark, it just missed a lot of the time for me.

I was intrigued by the title and cover, okay, maybe because it was an audiobook too - the use of two narrators for for Russ and Nina, the male and female leads was interesting as well.

Before I knew it, I had stumbled into the on and off-world adventures of the latest Intergalactic Exterminator Inc trainees from grandma trying some matchmaking, to encountering alien life forms - friends and foe. Think Dr Who crossed with Men in Black.

And yes, the story ended with a cliffhanger!

A very fun and creative book! The style of humor & adventure reminds me of Douglas Adams & Terry Pratchett.

[What I liked:]

•This book is so funny! The characters are amusing, the intergalactic federation is a parody of the worst parts of American capitalism & bureaucracy, & even the scrapes the adventurers get into are a bit funny.

•The plot is really creative & compelling. The writer really knows how to raise the stakes & incorporate details that were previously foreshadowed. Once the MC’s started their training, this story never dragged.

•I especially loved Chrome Man! I want to buy Chrome Man merch in real life!


[What I didn’t like as much:]

•The ending was a bit out of left field & confusing. Hopefully it’s a set up for a sequel? (I hope there’s a sequel!)

•The dialogue is kind of clunky in some places, especially the romance bits. It made me think at first that the rest of the writing might not be up to par, but fortunately the rest was fine.

•The pacing at the beginning felt a bit slow. Once the MC’s started their training though, it was fine from then on.

When Ross finds out his grandpa passed away he goes to Wisconsin to help his grandma and to run the bookstore that was left to him. While rummaging through his grandpa‘s store he finds a weird looking stone and when he showed it to his grandma she tells him he should take it to Ninas house the local gemologist. There’s three things Ross doesn’t know about the stone one it was man-made to eight harbors electricity and three he is going to fight with aliens to keep it out of the wrong aliens hands but that is going to be out there he meets Nina. This book was so good I love Nina and Rosses chemistry which I found really worked this is the second book I have read by a Ash Bishop The first was a book called Horoscope Writer and just like this book intergalactic exterminators The characters are very likable the plot is interesting and the dialogue is funny I also loved the narration by Scott Brick and Suzanne Elise Freeman this isn’t the best summary but just to see how Nina protect herself from her Hanzi boss should be enough to get you to read this book it is hilarious and what I highly recommend I love books were aliens interact with people and this one in my opinion is the top not to read it’s entertaining funny and an all-around great book! Do you know those days when you want to have something fun to listen to, a little escape, no brain required? This is your audiobook! There are two vocal actors to match the two narrators (a man and a woman, so you don't get the weird other-gendered voice thing happening), and they help this bring this book to life as a real romp. I kept wanting to come back to it to find out what happens next!

In the wake of his grandfather's death, Russ is trying to be there for his grandmother. He is fixing up her bookstore and curio shop, he's trying to tamp down his urge to wander, and he's hoping to avoid any matchmaking attempts. Nina, on the other hand, is on hiatus from grad school to provide some financial support for her family, including her father who is going through liver failure. Which is too bad, because when Russ finds a strange rock in his late grandfather's shop, his grandmother tells him to find the nearest eligible woman (and graduate student in the hard sciences), and it draws both Russ and Nina into an intergalactic adventure. It's a touch ridiculous - Russ is a self-proclaimed whiz at destroying AI machines using simple logic puzzles, and what's worse is that his tactics work - and somewhat bro-y - within the first minute of meeting her, Nina's bra size is referenced - but ultimately rather fun and satisfying. I particularly liked one of the robots (his fatal design flaw is that he can read) who decides to become the hero all the books in the bookstore tell him about.

This romp is highly recommended for fans of Scalzi and Farscape. My thanks to Netgalley, CamCat Books, Members' Audiobooks, the author, and the cast of the audiobook for access to this e-arc.

Oof. Well first I will admit I went in with unrealistic expectations. I was wanting quirky, banter filled, action packed space fights.

In this Russ and Nina are living in Wyoming and both have money troubles when Russ has an interaction with intergalactic exterminators. Russ then goes to Nina for help and they see their way out of their financial struggles and go to space to fight space bugs.

It was pretty meh. The plot was fine but about mid way wasn’t really making sense. The characters were flaaaat.
The women were definitely giving written by a white man.

If you don’t know tho… some examples.
Nina’s boobs are mentioned a lot because they become like a weird thing the aliens discuss??
The only other female tells Russ that Nina will manipulate him it’s just how women work.
Nina is more qualified and smarter than Russ but somehow always needs to be saved? Her motivations for being in space didn’t really make sense.

So it went from meh to ughhh and then round it off with HP references?

I wish I skipped it. The cover was enticing, damn it.

This was a fun romp reminiscent of the movie Men in Black, Earth doesn't really get to join the intergalactic world, but a few subjects are chosen to work on trial for a cleanup crew.

Enjoyed the chrome man and his antics. Overall, I really enjoyed this, and both narrators were great!

This was such an imaginative, fun & entertaining Sci-Fi story! The detailed world building was so interesting that I just wanted to join the crew of the exterminators and find that backroom in the bookstore! The characters were wonderful and real and I felt like I got to know them! The narrator had just the right voice to bring the story to life! This book would make a great movie or tv series!!

I loved this idea and initially the writing and story was OK. I brought the book and carried on. Eventually i just found the style to be a little immature and dull. Like it was written by a teenage boy. No harm done. Once the paperback drops in store i'll still be able to sell it.

I loved this book! The characters were very well done and stayed true to form throughout the book. The 'organic lifeforms' were creative and well thought out. Russ kept digging himself into deeper and deeper trouble and the solutions he found were either clever, hilarious, or both. I will definitely be recommending this book to all of my sci-fi loving friends!

As an add-on statement, I listened to this as an audio book read by two different people. The narrators did justice to their characters, although I did keep thinking that Russ was older than late 20's because of the voice.

With all due respect to the author this book is not going to be winning any literary awards, what is does do is win the the reader and take them on a fun and frantic journey, I really enjoyed this book and the narration was excellent, thank you to Netgalley for letting me listen to a book that made me forget the woes of the world
