This book was a fun read! Even though I didn't agree with many of their choices, i liked how realistic the characters were, especially Cecilia with her relationships. I think the plot and side plots were great in theory but I think they lacked in the execution - they seemed to be resolved too quickly especially when you consider them individually since the book does jump between them. I also think that the side plots should've been given more time, more depth.
Thank you for the advance copy!

While I enjoyed Rochelle Weinstein's other work, I just couldn't get into "What You Do To Me". I felt the plot never took off.

This felt like an attempt to write fanfiction as if the author was Taylor Jenkins Reid writing the origin story to Hey There Delilah.

I think the premise was interesting but I found myself bored almost immediately and could not bring myself to become invested in any part of the story. I didn’t care about Cecelia, or her constant poor choices. I think her journey as a journalist was interesting, but overall I had a hard time keeping my attention on this book.

Maybe this book just wasn’t for me because I see some people really loved it.

Thanks to Netgalley and Net Union publishing for this ARC!

Cecelia is a writer for Rolling Stone. She has a boyfriend, Pete, who she loves and loves with. They have a plan to go on a cruise, and Cecelia gets sidetracked by a story and losing Pete’s camera. She meets a mysterious woman sitting near a concert memorial at a venue, and picks up an envelope. It’s an original song, written by a famous singer. The wheels start turning, and she follows the story.

This book was told in such an interesting way, with flashbacks and present day. It had a lot going on, which was sometimes hard to follow. But it kept my attention pretty well. I did think Cecelia was a little hard headed, but once you learn more about her you can understand why.

This book was cheesy, but sometimes that’s what you need. I’m glad I read it, but it isn’t one I’d read again.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What You Do To Me - is taken directly from the famous song Hey There Delilah (Plain White Tees) and Rochelle B. Weinstein used the song to explore an idea -what if every song has a very exciting and dramatic story behind it?

Cecilia James is a journalist for Rolling Stone and an enormous music fan and somewhat of a unorganized klutz. When she is following a lead on a story she misses an important date with her boyfriend putting their relationship at risk. Fortunately, she also stumbles into a clue about a famous song that may reveal a famous muse.

While her heart aches, Cecilia travels the US working on her one in a million stories about famous rock bands and their songs all the while hoping that romantic ballads are true and there is hope for her.

The story including lots of backstory about Cecilia which I appreciated as well as lots of music themed trivia and die hard romantic.
Tom Higgenson from the Plain White T's lent his lyrics to the story and Delilah will be running through your head for the next week ! If you are a romantic at heart, love your aught's music or just want a new heroine to root for What You Do To Me is the book for you! #LakeUnionPublishing #WhatYouDoToMe #RochelleBWeinstein #TomHiggenson #PlainWhiteTs

Thanks so much Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley.

I love Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's, and I thought this was a fun twist to write a book based on a song. I'd love to see this done again.

It did feel like a lot of the plot dragged on. I wanted more about the couple behind the song, and I was frustrated with Cecilia. I think I wanted to like this book more than I did, but I so appreciated all the creativity behind the plot!

There are not enough words to properly articulate how much I loved this book. First, Cecilia was an incredibly strong (albeit headstrong at times), driven woman in her career and I loved watching her find herself. In the process, we got to know Sara and Eddie, two more amazing characters.

What You Do to Me was rife with Jewish representation (which I can’t get enough of) and real characters. I enjoyed following along with their growth and development and of course, the nods to Hey There, Delilah, on which this book was based on. This is absolutely Weinstein at her best.

Hey There Delilah What's it Like in New York City... Now that the song is playing in your head, rush to read this gem of a novel! This book is the story of the love song and so much more. Cecilia is a Rolling Stone reporter with much to prove and much to learn. Sara is a woman who never got over her young love. This book is about two women finding themselves and the men they love. A magnificent triumph of a novel that will leave you pining for a sequel!
