Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
I read the original 'Flowers in the attic' series many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. This series (I haven't read the first book) is written by her family, purportedly in the same vein. It has similarities in that the children are subjected to an odd, secluded childhood including relationships that border on incest. It also has differences where there is heavy reliance on talk of spirits in the home, and their influence on events. Whilst the characters are described well I did not empathise with any of them, even Faith came across as a combination of a silly, self-centred child and a vindictive teenager. The story focusses on trying to get her child back but it ground onwards so slowly that by 50% through I was having to force myself to read every page so I gave up. I could not recommend this to anyone.

Little Paula by V.C. Andrews.
Book #2 of The Eden.
Faith Eden’s brief foray into motherhood is marked by tragedy. Distraught that her baby was ripped away from her, she is determined to get little Paula back from the wealthy family who adopted her. Her brother, Trevor, is also anxious to get the baby back and will do anything necessary to do so. But when the dark truth comes to light, this twisted family will stop at nothing to keep outsiders out and secrets in—no matter the cost.
I really enjoyed this book. I do love this author. Flowers in the attic being my favourite book. I did like Faith. I wasn't sure how I felt about Trevor. 5*.
