When Carys needs to escape her life where everyone knows her business she takes a job in Paris where no one knows her and she can do all the things she wants to do and maybe start a new career and life but things don’t work out exactly as she planned. Mat really wants to be a journalist but hates the pressure of his job. When Carys and Mat meet they feel something special is happening but don’t talk about specifics with each hiding something from the other.

A lovely read with a nod to You’ve got Mail one of my favourite films with Paris as the backdrop to this meet-cute. I will be looking out for more Sophie Clare books in the future

Carys has not had a great time after her accident. She gets the chance to run a cafe in Paris even though she doesn't have much experience

A fantastic read with a bit of a twist, loved the storyline and all the characters and their backstories. The unfortunate incident between the two main characters was very interesting and I really enjoyed reading it and seeing how everything played out

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I enjoyed reading this book.

Since an incident occurred in Carys life, she’s felt like she needs to do something different. So when she reads about a position to run a French cafe, she applies, and is given the opportunity to move to Paris, to run a French café

We then meet Mat, who is a journalist, when they meet, there is an attraction between them.

But they’re both keeping something from each other, that May out a damper on the growing relationship.

I loved the setting, the characters.

I highly recommend this book.

Carys is still suffering after a serious accident left her in a coma for 6 months, although it's more the way she is treated by everybody with kid gloves. She takes the opportunity to manage a small cafe in Paris, although she has to embellish her cv to convince the owners that she can do the job. There she meets Mat, a journalist working for a small local paper and they strike up a friendship. Each doesn't know where the other works, which leads to serious complications.
I did feel for Carys, struggling to look after the cafe and also Mat, working in a job he hates which I can certainly relate to. The story is more about how 1* reviews can be really disheartening for the recipient, whether it is deserved or not and can crush the most sensitive. It also highlights the problems with keeping secrets from each other in a relationship. Despite the negative parts of the story the positives outweigh these with friendships that are made and all against the backdrop of Paris preparing for Christmas.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

This is a lovely warm hearted book about relationships and finding the right path for yourself. Carys is a very empathetic main character and I was routing for her all the way. Don’t read this book when you’re hungry! The descriptions of food are absolutely wonderful. The Paris setting is very strong, it would be a great book to take on holiday there. Most of the story does not take place at Christmas so the book could be read at any time of year. I definitely recommend this book.

What a lovely Christmas book. That will help everyone get into the Christmas spirit. It is a story about adventure, escape, friendship, love, romance and relationships. The characters. The storyline is a little bit unlikely. But not completely unbelievable so you can suspend disbelief when reading ktm.

Thank you NetGalley, the author and the publishers for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a lovely Christmas novel to start to help me on the way to feeling Christmassy. This has all the feels a light-hearted, feel good novel should. Adventure, escape, friendship and romance. The concept is slightly unbelievable but not totally unlikely and so you can believe the backing of the story. The characters nicely develop and the plot gets deeper and more intwined. My least favourite bit was the deception - less about Madam Incognito and more Carys hiding her secret about her accident - I don’t get it. I also really didn’t like Madam Incognito, it left me quite disappointed and I felt it ruined Mat’s character. Lastly, I wanted Emile to have more time with his magnificent creations. However, it wasn’t about him.

I’d like to return to Paris and Carys and Mat - maybe in the summer. A definite feel good Christmas romance and highly recommended.

Carys wants to change her life. When offered the chance to run a small cafe in Paris and Mat is struggling as a journalist, he gets bullied by his boss too. A chance meeting feels like a new start for both of them, but will their secrets keep them apart?

The book isn't set at Christmas so that confused me a lot and I’m not sure Cary’s was likeable the whole time (what was with her redecorating the cafe without any agreement from the owners?!).

It was a nice read.

Another fabulous book from Sophie Claire, I was hooked on this from the first few pages.

I loved the Parisian setting, and of Carys attempting to manage a cafe without any experience while in a foreign country. Especially when her new staff seem a bit tricky to handle.

And we also get chapters from Mats point of view, and he is unhappy in his job, but a chance meeting with Carys is enough to give each other a new friendship.

One of the main things I took from this story, is the importance of reviews, specifically if you are writing negative reviews to do so only if 1000% truly deserved, and not for any other reason, as the impact can be horrific.

There is a lot of food in this story, and getting to see Paris through Carys eyes was a joy.

Set in the run up to Christmas it is certainly wintry and the seasonal warmth flows from the page, but I would say its not overly festive and could easily be read at any time of year, including during a heatwave like I did!!!

I love this authors books, and this was another gem. I raced through the pages, thoroughly enjoying every moment spent between them.

Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This was a good story but, unfortunately I got fed up with all the foodie thi gs in it and the romance. I ha e just read a book about cookery and food so, this one didn't hit the spot. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Oh, this story was absolutely wonderful! I couldn't put it down because I had to know what happened to Carys and Mat. The lovely characters were so well written they flowed from the page in a story that was filled with love, misunderstandings, acceptance then love again, the perfect Christmas read

Carys wants to change her life. When offered the chance to run a small cafe in Paris, she immediately takes it. Journalist Mat is struggling - his job is dead end, his boss is a bully and he wants out. A chance meeting feels like a new start for both of them, but will their secrets keep them apart?

I do find the title very misleading. The book isn't set at Christmas, indeed that holiday features very little in the book. It is however a very well written story, with good pace and some interesting characters. I did find some parts simply too convenient and a bit lazy, whilst others were just unbelievable - Carys totally redecorating the cafe without any agreement from the owners was a step too far for me!

A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.

This was slow to get going for me, but once I did I found it a pleasant enough read. The back story of why the main protagonist ended up in Paris, I found to be handled sensitively but did feel at times that the coming together of the love interests was a bit drawn out. I felt that the way Aurelie came on board, seemed to be convenient, if that’s the right word…… it was all handled quickly. I don’t mean it as a negative but it was just very well wrapped up. Having said all that….I found it to be a pleasant read.

A wonderful romantic story about Carys and Mat who met on a chance encounter. The chance to run a cafe in Paris was just too good an opportunity for Carys to turn down. I just loved the story of her ups ans downs running the cafe. Despite them both having secrets they overcame them and the ending was just perfect.

Rating: 2.5/5

I can definitely see what This Christmas in Paris was trying to do and honestly, it was very well written, but the main characters were completely insufferable. Carys could have been a really great character with complex issues, but she just wasn’t likeable.

Anyway, let's start with a positive because I have quite a few negatives to talk about. There’s a particularly funny moment near the beginning where Mat’s dad talks about staying with a friend. The exact quote is: “We’re staying at Roddie's place. You know Roddie Williams, the singer?” I’m going to assume this is a parody of Robbie Williams because it’s funnier that way, I literally laughed out loud when reading this.

I found it kind of funny that Carys talks about firing Aurélie like she has the authority to do so. It’s not actually your business, you’re just looking after it for a few months. Imagine being the owner and coming back to different staff because your stand-in didn’t like who you hired.

After having this thought, Carys seems to think she can make changes to the café. She calls a team meeting to discuss it and then acts surprised when the staff get defensive. I have a feeling the author wants you to feel sorry for Carys in this situation, but I really don’t. She’s been there barely two weeks, she has no right to ask the chef to completely change his dessert menu. The absolute cheek of it.

Just as I thought she’d hit the ceiling of “What’s the biggest change I can make to this business I don’t own?” Carys decides to redecorate the place and I’m not just talking about adding a couple of throws and cushions, oh no, she completely repaints the interior and exterior and from the sounds of it, it’s garish and hard to look at.

I actually really didn’t like either of the main characters. Carys tried to take over a business she doesn’t own, making changes without the owner's permission. I liked Mat right up until he was rude to the restaurant worker and was then surprised when he had a bad experience. He then had the nerve to write about it on his blog like the whole situation was done with malice. Mistakes happen, I’m sure restaurants mess up reservations all the time, there’s no need to be so entitled about it.

It took 269 pages (over halfway through) for the word Christmas to be said. I’m not entirely sure why this is called This Christmas in Paris, the majority of the book takes place in September and October. When you finally get to December, it’s over in less than 30 pages, which is a shame. Christmas had no real effect on what was happening in the story so I really don’t think this should have been categorised as a festive romance.

It was very obvious that the one-star cafe reviews were a metaphor for book reviews. You could tell the author felt passionate/hurt by the one-stars, from Carys’s perspective and I do get it. I only leave one-star reviews if the book is problematic, or I didn’t finish it.

Despite my issues with the main characters, this is a very well-written book. The plot was a bit all over the place, but it was an interesting concept. I’m just being nitpicky because it has Christmas in the title and it was hardly festive at all.

I absolutely adored this book. The characters are location were both incredible and so perfect for the story! There are so many delicious food mentions in this book, my mouth did water several times!
The story itself is just beautiful! Honestly it would make you book a flig straight to Paris, especially at Christmas time.
I will definitely be reading more from this author as I just loved her style of writing!
