Clare Gibson's "The Complete Book of Birthdays - Gift Edition" explores the fascinating relationship between astrology and psychology. Astrology began with ancient observations of celestial bodies and was advanced by Copernicus and Galileo, as the author explains.

Gibson extensively discusses Western astrology, covering the zodiac, planets, and elements. She draws similarities with the Chinese system, emphasising how the creature connected with the birth hour shapes personality.

Due of its length, I didn't read all 365 personality forecasts, but it was an interesting reference. The full daily profiles and astrological indications provide interesting insights. The book covers planetary influences, virtues, vices, vocations, abilities, and noteworthy births.

Portable format makes the book accessible despite its comprehensiveness. Gibson's writing style makes it simple to read for self-discovery and understanding others. I suggest "The Complete Book of Birthdays - Gift Edition" as a great reference book for birthdays and other occasions.

Such a fun book to have. I loved checking every single one of my friends’ birthday in this hahaha. I feel like it would be really great when you’re just meeting someone you don’t really know yet! Check their birthday, and you might know a lot more about them.

This would be a fun gift for lots of different people. The layout is charming, well organized and interesting. I'll be buying a few copies to give this holiday season.

ARC from publisher via NetGalley, but the opinions are my own.

I have read other books with birthdays and this is just as comprehensive. Including explanations at the beginning of different zodiacs and the overall history of astrology. Each day features an explanation of characteristics for a person born on that day, as well as a break down of vices, virtues, and famous people who share that birthday.

“The Complete Book of Birthdays—Gift Edition: Personality Predictions for Every Day of the Year,”
created by astrologer extraordinaire Clare Gibson, is the perfect tool for every person fascinated by horoscopes and astrology.

An avid reader of esoteric literature, I am completely smitten with Gibson’s book because it differs greatly from so many of this genre. This is a unique collection of information about the ancient art and science of astrology—that is traceable almost 4,000 years BCE to Sumerian and Babylonian roots—as well as a comprehensive reference guidebook to be used frequently.

An extensive historical account of the evolution and adaptation of astrology from antiquity to the modern era is presented at the beginning of Gibson’s edition. It’s written in an engaging and entertaining manner, which is also educational and astonishingly thorough.

Gibson then delves deeply into each astrological sign; explores why each was named; their associations with the elements of air, fire, water or earth; and the relationships of why cardinal directions—North, South, East and West are assigned, among much, much more.

This extensive book also contains chapters on Chinese astrology; instructions on how to create horoscopes; explanations on Planetary degrees and aspects; and the most fun component—a comprehension every day of the year horoscope.

This is a wonderful book for everyone who wants a thorough education in astrology, along with instructions, techniques and tools required to create horoscopes. It’s also a fun resource for cross-referencing date-specific horoscopes to family and friends.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciousness thanks NetGalley, Author Clare Gibson, and Publisher Quarto Publishing Group - Wellfleet Press for this advanced reader’s copy (ARC) for review.

Thank you for allowing me to read this advanced reader's copy of this book! I've always enjoyed reading novels about the importance of your birthday using astrology, and this one kept me intrigued even after I read about my own birthday.

This is a lovely compilation of traits and guidance based on your date of birth. It includes an explanation of astrology and how it works. It also has some lovely illustrations.

The complete Book of Birthdays by Clare Gibson has gorgeous illustrations, although it’s hard to fully appreciate them while reading the digital version. After the introduction, each page is dedicated to a personality summary for someone born on each day of the year. I found the descriptions to be accurate of myself and the people close to me and it was a fun activity to read through each one. This would be a lovely gift for anyone interested in astrology.

This was so much fun to look through and read about my loved ones and my birthday and see how accurate the depictions were of us! I plan on buying this book to have a physical copy

I've always loved all things crystals and loved horoscopes and astrology for a long time now too so this book looked great to me. I thought all the information at the start, about the history of astrology and particularly the other types too and how they all link was really fascinating. It didn't just talk about Western astrology and ignore the different beliefs around the world. I particularly loved the information about the Chinese zodiac because I recently became quite interested in that and it's a lot harder to find information about than the Western zodiac. I would have loved even more information on it though. I know obviously the book mainly focuses on Western in the main birthdays section but there were a couple of times when it was talking about the Chinese zodiac that it mentioned something that I couldn't find an answer too anywhere. For example, it talked about finding your dominant element by finding out the element for your year of birth (easy to Google), the one that goes with your animal (easy to Google your animal and their corresponding elements were listed on the previous page), but it also wanted "the element that presides over your month of birth" and I can't find anywhere which element goes with which month so I can't then work out my overriding element which is a shame. I suppose not really the book's fault but it wouldn't have been hard to add the months they link to in the info on each element on the page before, knowing it's hard to find out through other means.
The main part of the book, the pages for each birthdate had a lot of information and were very detailed. I loved the pages for each star sign in general as we entered that star sign's dates that talked a little about the history and the characteristics of a person born in that sign, with things like the colours and flowers that go with them. I read each zodiac's page but I didn't of course go through and read every single birthdate's page. I did read those of my immediate family since they'd be the ones I could see links between and would be interested to know about. Some of them were spot on and some less so. But they definitely all had relatable elements. I think it would definitely make a great gift for someone who's into astrology.

This is a beautiful book. The colors are gorgeous and dreamy. The author gives a history of astrology and then breaks down each sign. Then each day is broken down including a general description and an aside of practical information. I found some things of my birthday to be very true (I work in non-profit) but other things didn't apply. This is typically what I see with all astrology but I was interested in the author's take by breaking down birthdays.

I received an advanced copy of this book and via Netgalley.

4 stars! I loved it! I went in to reading this with some skepticism, but I was presently surprised by how accurate it was for not only my birthday but of others I know. It was amazing accurate. It offered a great insight to behaviors of not just the signs overall but your specific birth date. It has a great layout overall. This will make an awesome gift!

Fantastic Book of Predictions

Clare provides an overview of the study of astrology in the past, whereas ancient stargazers, lacked instruments like the telescope with which to study the heavens in accurate detail. However, they still discerned that certain astral bodies comprised fixed formations that moved in a predictable fashion through the night sky, and their appearance and disappearance heralding the changes of season.

She states It was only through the ground-breaking work of later astronomers as Nicolaus Copernicus, and Galileo Galilei, were today’s astronomers able to benefit from the knowledge undreamed of by the ancients.

The author discusses the origins and principles of western astrology from the zodiac, the planets, the elements, and other aspects of astrology. She states that just as Western astrology acknowledges the importance of the ascendant sign at time of birth, in the Chinese system the influence of the creature that prevailed at the hour of birth is said to affect the way in which people present themselves to others,
according to the “personality” of the creature in whose year they were born.

This is a fascinating book, however, due to it length, I did not read the personality predictions for all 365 days. I do highly recommend it. Fantastic reference book.

The cover is a nice purple shade, very mystical feel. I would probably pick it up from a book store shelf.

The book goes into depth about the historical origins and how all the different elements come together to make your very own unique individual horoscope. It contains sections on Chinese astrology and then the history of the four elements.

Then there’s the Days of the year sections which starts 21 March ARIES - then lists the Ruling planets, the Elements, the Symbols, the Polarity, the Colours, Physical Correspondence, Stones, Flowers
Then the book goes day by day listing, planetary influences, virtues, vices, suggested ideal careers, the corresponding skills & aptitudes, famous births within each horoscope, and who you are most compatible with.

I have to say that this book isn’t what I would call a light read though it is interesting I have read quite a bit of the information before in other books. I would say I enjoyed skipping to different sections and dipping in and out, reading the horoscopes that were relevant to me and all they entailed. The format is done in an easy enough to read way but at times I felt like it was a tad laborious at times I felt like I just wanted it to get to the point.

I read this as an ebook but I think the reading experience would be improved by reading the actual physical book making it easier to flick back and forth.

Summing up, it was an interesting, fun read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wellfleet Press for the ARC of "The Complete Book of Birthdays" (Gift Edition) by Claire Gibson. This was a fun and informative read about the date you are born on and how it matches your perspective personality. I'm not completely convinced that it is 100% accurate, but I did see some similarities between birthdays in my family and for myself. This type of book is a great palette cleanser in between books.

I don't really know anything about astrology other than what some of the signs are. As someone who has zero prior knowledge this was an interesting read.

Found the book okay but once you’ve looked up the birthday of yourself and your family - what do you do with it then? I have buoyed it but it’s not a keeper for me.
