Roseland, with a gorgeous backdrop in Cornwall sounds serene, a place to escape to, but the reality is rather different from something dreamy conjured up in the mind. It's a house with history and in this case one that carries a haunting atmosphere.

The beautiful descriptive writing carries you along and envelopes you into the landscape, which also means you pick up on the feel of the place.

There's the glamour of a wedding to be held at Roseland, but there's still the lasting legacy of Eloise. When you meet the Trelawney family and get to know them, you discover the secrets they've been hiding for a rather long time and the grief from Eloise's death that still lingers and haunts them.

There's an intense air of Daphne De Maurier in the writing and the atmosphere that Judy Finnegan creates.

It's a book to lose yourself in and be captured by Cornwall's beauty.

I’ve read Judy’s previous novels and always enjoyed them, and this was another fabulous read. A saga set in the most gorgeous part of the country! I loved the charm and storytelling, a really lovely read.

There is nothing not to like about this book. It is utterly beautiful and captivating. The setting is perfect as are the wonderful characters.

This is a lovely book set in a beautiful part of the world, i hadn't read the first book, but i don't think I missed anything so could be a stand alone, this was not a page turner, but if you just want a nice read with nothing too gritty this is the book for you, lovely story for round the pool

A really good old fashioned family saga based around the beautiful old Manor House in Cornwall of Roseland.
We are carefully introduced to all the family and the generations, through their lives when they all receive an unexpected invitation to a wedding at the ancestral home. Shadows and ghosts surround the preparations to an event that is absolutely mind boggling!!
Lots of glamour and intrigue, family dysfunction, love, loss and life. Shades of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca in an updated modern rendition. Cleverly written and thought out, the descriptions and atmosphere were brilliant!!
Really enjoyed this wonderful Cornish blockbuster of a read and can heartily recommend!
Thank you NetGalley and Sphere for the early read which was hugely enjoyed!!

Brilliant storytelling.
The author weaves a tale full of family secrets all centred around Roseland, a mansion in Cornwall.
Judy's love of Cornwall is very evident throughout the novel, with some gorgeous descriptions of the area around Talland Bay.
I had read Eloise the previous novel and had loved that too.
I almost guessed the final secret. An engaging story.
Highly recommend.

A family saga set in Cornwall. Overall the writing for me was a little too over egged. In places a little slow.

Having read Eloise, I was thrilled to be able to read Roseland, although I think this could be read as a stand alone novel.
A really good family saga, full of secrets and intrigue. A family wedding at Roseland brings all these to the surface and things are very definitely not what they seem.
Well written and compelling, it was a book that I didn't want to put down until all the mysteries had been unravelled. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend.

#Roseland #NetGalley I had not read the previous book to this - Eloise - but I found that it was perfectly capable of being read as a standalone. The prologue was a bit flowery and descriptive and I thought I was not going to enjoy it but once it got into the nitty gritty of the drama, the writing was much more how I like my books to read! Beautiful setting of Cornwall and a good family crime/drama with the expected twists and turns- I actually really enjoyed this book once I got into it. Whilst the reading of Eloise wasn't essential, I feel like I want to now read it to discover more about the snippets of history that were told in this one!

Family saga set in Cornwall, very descriptive of beautiful cornwall. Flows along nicely with the usual secrets and trouble you expect in this type of story. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy

This book is just brilliant. I had read Eloise when it was published and thoroughly enjoyed it and reading Roseland was quite amazing. The descriptions of Cornwall were so vivid along with great characters and storyline. I hope Judy will be writing more books as she really can tell a good story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I loved Judy’s first book, Eloise, and was delighted to see that Roseland had been written some ten years after Eloise was written. Roseland can definitely be read as a stand-alone novel, but I would highly recommend also reading Eloise as, like Roseland, it is such a great read, and does explain the events that happened ten years ago with Cathy and the Trelawny family, that are referred to in Roseland.
Revisiting Roseland was like revisiting an old friend, albeit a somewhat spooky and peculiar friend! It was wonderful to catch up with Cathy, her family and all of the Trelawny family to see what has happened over the past ten years and to find out what happens to them next. As in Eloise, the author’s love of Cornwall shines through and made me want to book a holiday there. The story is just brilliant. An easy and captivating read.
I really hope that Judy will write another book about Cathy and the Trelawny family, just don’t keep us all waiting for ten years for the next one please!
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely brilliant. I am always dubious about celebrities writing books but this one was amazing. I read it in 1 day, could not put it down. Meet the Trelawney family and their secrets. Julianna who controls them keeps the biggest, most important secret of all. I am not going to give a synopsis as that will give the story away. Bring on the next novel.

I absolutely love family sagas set by the sea so was looking forward to reading Roseland.
Cathy and Eloise were best friends and spent time together, growing up, at Eloise's family home, Roseland. After Eloise's death Cathy returns for the wedding of Jack, the father of Eloise's children.
This is a beautifully atmospheric novel, I loved the Cornwall setting and the author's love for and knowledge of the area really comes across. It's well written and characterised although I did find the family relationships confusing initially. I did find it to be fairly slow paced and was waiting throughout for more to happen. However it's an enjoyable read if you enjoy this genre and it was a perfect novel to read while I was on holiday in Cornwall.
3.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

A good descriptive read if you are interested in Cornwall.

Not my usual read but on the whole it was a pleasant book to read although a bit slow.

Thank you to Netgalley and Little Brown B.G. for this ARC which I did enjoy but wouldn't read any more from this author.

This is a good book set in Cornwall. The plot is good but not very memorable. I enjoyed reading it but I don’t think it will stick with me as much as other similar books.

Judy Finnegan has proved that she is a great author as well as a TV presenter!
This is a really good read with lots of descriptions of Cornwall which add to the enjoyment of the story.

Roseland by Judy Finnigan

The summers spent at Roseland, the sprawling ancestral home of her best friend, Eloise, were among the happiest of Cathy's life. Tucked away on the Cornish coastline and brimming with history, Roseland seemed to belong to another century.

Cathy has barely been back since Eloise's death a decade ago. So she is shocked when Jack, the love of Eloise's life and father of her children, announces that he is getting married, and that the wedding will take place at Roseland.
This book has Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier written all over it , and for me that's a good thing.
But in a way it's so much more , modern , up to date , relatable to now and great characters and a very readable plot.
You can tell the author loves Cornwall by the descriptions of the area and I could almost imagine myself having a wander around the rooms of Roseland or a walk in the garden.
