Unlike some of the over the top church teaching on 'the blessings mentality,' coming from some American groups in the last decade, this book is grounded and 'tells it as it is'. As Christians, we were never promised an easy life, we live in this world along with all its inhabitants. Jesus showed us how to do that. On no better day than Easter Saturday can we stop and contemplate what that really means. In the UK, it is not our tradition to have a lake house and indeed, most around the world, including in the USA, do not have that opportunity to get away. But we can pause and this taking this book and taking a short break each day to read a chapter, is one way to reset and then have something to mull over as we go about our days. especially poignant in this time leading up to Easter, but the truths and thought provoking nuggets, are relevant at any time of year. An especially good book to share with those finding life tough.

This book was a fresh way of God talking to my life. Is such a beautiful read and I loved the way the autor used the bible and her raw honesty to make us undertand we still can grief as followers of Jesus. That we still can sorrow and have a whole grief process as Christians. I loved how relatable the book felt and how easy was to just read it and meditate about the whole book. This book was a Godsend. There were so many things I loved about this book! I loved the raw honesty, the personal examples of loss and the normalization of grief that so few people allow in their lives! I love how she drew from scripture, biblical examples and her beautiful times on Paradox lake to walk you through your own journey of grief; in any form! The writing was beautiful, it read easy, and it was peppered with personal stories that were so honest & relatable! I really enjoyed it!

I’m going to revisit this book during lent as it looks at how the Easter Saturday’s can be so easy to overlook as we rush to get from Good Friday to Easter Sunday. We forget to pause and take things slow, instead wanting to skip ahead to the good parts (cue the song singing). It’s definitely easy to do this in life which is why I think it’s an invaluable book to come back to over time, especially when life isn’t going quite to plan! This year I’m going to intentionally approach Easter Saturday (both the literal day, but also the symbolic meaning of this in my life as a whole) with hope, remembering that it’s ok to stop and take a breath.
