Very pleasantly, this acts as a coffee-table book full of the typically wonderful photography selection you get from these publishers, as well as something to read and learn from. That's not to say there are mountains of text (hem), just tiny foothills (oh stop it) of captions, but you can pick up some decent trivia here. If you, for some reason, got asked how high Iran can get, and said anything like the true answer I'd be surprised, unless you are a specialist in mountains, in which case this is still a book for you, being a gentle reminder of what you love.

We start with Europe, and cover a lot from Iceland's Game of Thrones scenery to the Caucasus, then hit the big time with Asia. This continent means we can't ignore the volcanoes, though, where relevant – Mt Fuji is one, of course, although it's done nothing for three hundred years and counting. Except look amazing, of course. We trek through Africa, then the Americas, from Denali to the undeniable Patagonia. It's not going to earn you a PhD in mountain science, as the geology is on the slight side all told, but these books are downtime for the specialist or décor for those fond of their subjects. And they generally work – as does this four star plus effort.

And, well over 5,600 metres, if you are still wondering.

Any book that can make me feel like I just returned from traveling are an A plus in my book. The photography in this coffee table book is absolutely stunning. As we travel the world to see peaks from every corner of the globe, large beautiful photographs jump off the page with small captions for each. The mountains featured display a variety of climates and seasons and accentuate the uniqueness of each of the mountains featured.

Mountains by Chris McNab is a lovely book to set out on a coffee table or give as a thank you gift. The photographs of mountains throughout the world are visually appealing, and the written descriptions are interesting and short enough to engage the attention of those who don’t have the time or inclination to read. (I, personally, would have enjoyed digging a bit deeper and learning more about certain mountains. However, now that my interests is peaked, I can do my own research on them.)

A big thank-you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Like the Reefs book this one is also grouped by continent. It had beautiful pictures of dramatic landscapes. I really wanted to hang the photos on my wall.

A stunning book that depicts the majestic beauty of mountains all over the world.

The photos that illustrate this book are absolutely breathtaking. Seeing some of these mountains next to people, houses and animals is extraordinary and very humbling. Both intimidating and beautiful. Each chapter is organised by geographical area, mostly by continents. There are small descriptions next to each photo with details on the location, height and elevation.

Absolutely gorgeous!

I love coffee table books. Something about them seems to sit right with me. It may be the fact that they have more artwork and thus are more visual than a regular novel, so you do not require to give it all your focus. You can pick one up and thumb through it to any page and still enjoy what is in-front of you.

The mountains are separated into seperate regions of the world. We go to Europe first, with peaks like Ben Nevis in Scotland, Mount Snowdon in Wales, and Kirkjufell in Iceland (if you have watched Game of Thrones, this will look very familiar).

Next is Asia and Pacific. We visit Mount Everest and its base camps, Mount Hua (Hua Shan) in China, Mount Agung in Bali and Aoraki Mount Cook in New Zealand. This region was my favourite in this book. All of the mountains were stunning and it was hard to choose only a few to mention. I also may be biased since I lived only a few hours drive away from Aoraki Mount Cook and have visited it and Lake Tekapo with the Mount John obsvertory many times and I always enjoy my time in the Mackenzie basin.

After that, Africa is next on the list. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Drakensburg in South Africa, and Mount Speke in Uganda are the highlights from this continent.

North American mountains are included next. Mount Lucania in Canada, Mount Rainier in the United States of America and Popocatépetl in Mexico are all included. I can say from personal experience that Mount Rainier is a stunning mountian that dominates the skyline of Seattle, Washington and if you are able to, go and see it for your self.

And lastly, South America and their peaks are visited. We see Mount Fitz Roy in Patagonia, Pico Paraná in Brazil, and Mount Huascarán in Peru all worthy of being included in this collection of mountains.

So many of the photos of these peaks are so well photographed that you can almost feel like you are looking at these mountains. A great coffee table read that will be entertaining for many.

This magnificent collection of Mountains is breathtaking and beautiful. The author takes us geographically around the world. After our introduction, we are taken to a wide variety of mountains in Europe, Asia and the Pacific, Africa, North America, and South America.

There is such an amazing diversity of nature offered here. There are snow covered mountains, mountains covered in green, and mountains of sand and rock. I especially love the many photos that include people, animals, or houses in the background. They show how truly magnificent these wonders of the earth are! This is a beautiful book that would be great in any library or on any coffee table!

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

There are so many amazing photographs in this book including views from mountain summits that I wouldn't be able to see in person, so it was awe inspiring to see these jaw dropping images together. I liked that the book was categorised by region, it made it easy to see the similarities and differences in each geographic location.

Mountains is a beautiful coffee table book showcasing the majesty of mountains. It is broken into the sections of: Europe, Asia & Pacific, Africa, North American and South America. The big mountains you expect are there like Everest, Kilimanjaro, Fuji, K2 but it also includes other mountains and ranges. Each of the 200 photos gets a small description. I like that photos show the various seasons. There are lakes, waterfalls as well as flora, some animal life and a few buildings. I’ve lived at the base of the Rocky Mountains most of my life and sitting on my porch looking at the mountains always feels like home. Where you’re a climber or arm chair traveler this is a lovely book to look through. Thank you to NetGalley and Amber Books Ltd. for the temporary ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Mr. McNab does a superb job of capturing mountains in pristine images that will literally take your breath away. The pictures are so vivid, caught in such a perfect moment, when all is still, and the beauty of the mountains is magnified. This book was pleasant to view, and I would recommend it to those who have a love of nature and the mountains, so that we may all enjoy the scenic panoramas. Well done!

Mountains Great Peaks and Ranges of the World by Chris McNab is exactly what I was hoping it would be and more! I love gazing at images of beautiful, sweeping ranges and tall peaks. I live close to several but am always inspired by others. I was thrilled to see one of my favorite places in all of creation included!! This pictural collection allows you to experience them from your own comfortable home, without all the travel and dangers associated. Although, sometimes the experience is where the true satisfaction is found, so maybe this can serve as an inspiration for your next trip.
Each of the continents are covered. I am a little torn over what was more inspiring, the actual ranges/peaks, or the pictures that capture them! My goodness, there are absolutely stunning photos in this collection. There are captions included to provide a little more information and insights for each image shown.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

You don’t need to be a climber, or even a hiker, to appreciate the beauty of mountains. As the author states, there isn’t even an official definition to distinguish them from hills. But the majestic pictures in this book are unquestionably mountains. Each chapter devoted to a geological area (mostly continents, although America is divided in North and South), this volume includes key details and gorgeous photographs of the highest, most beautiful and remarkable mountains. If your idea of a high peak includes snow, you’ll be surprised to find here some pictures of lush, green jungles. If your idea of Africa is flat plains, you’ll find high mountains too. There are plants, native fauna and even some buildings and humans. Seeing the tiny figures compared to the huge mountains is humbling and awesome. There are views from the highest summits and the lowest valleys, volcanoes, some active and closer to larger cities than you’d think, and even shots from space. I’m fascinated by mountains but I also know that I’d be hard-pressed to climb even a small hill so reading this book is the next best thing. Gorgeous!
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Amber Books!
