I loved this book.
You get the bare bones - the stitch patterns - and the rest is only limited by your imagination (& skills). You can use these in any project, from small dishcloths, to sweaters to massive blankets. There are one or two stitch patterns here that I have been looking for for a while, not sure what they were called so couldn't Google them. More ideas to add to my collection.

This is a great book for a knitter. I reviewed "A Year of Knitting Stitches" by Tabetha Hedrick on NetGalley. The stitch patterns were great, and I can't wait to try out several on future projects.

A great book for if you're interested in trying out new stitches. Plenty of instruction and ideas. The perfect start to a new year.

A Year of Knitting Stitches is a concise perpetual calendar of one-a-day stitch patterns collected and curated by Tabetha Hedrick. Released 7th Nov 2023 by Rowman & Littlefield on their Stackpole imprint, it's 408 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

Precisely what it says on the cover, this is a collection of daily knitting patterns including lace, cables, textured stitches, mosaic, and colorwork, arranged by calendar date, 1st Jan to 31st Dec. Each day is a single page, with a color photo of the finished pattern, written directions, and with a required stitch count for each repeat.

Comparatively, there are a lot of really nice designs here which are new and -not- included in any commonly available knitting dictionary. They're generally smaller repeats and less intensive/difficult than, for example, the Japanese pattern dictionaries. That being said, there is no basic how-to-knit tutorial included here. The author has included some general how-to at the back of the collection and a very basic shawl/stole recipe which shows readers one potential way to adapt the stitches in the collection.

Five stars, although there's very little that 100% new and innovative with knitting (humans have been knitting a very long time), this collection is full of small simple repeats which are useful. Absolutely recommended for the knitter's home collection, public or school library acquisition, fibre arts guilds' libraries, maker's groups, and similar. It would also make a welcome gift for a fibre-happy friend.

This is interesting for those who love knitting. I would not recommend it to someone who just started knitting. However, for those who love to increase their knitting knowledge, this would be a great book to work with.

This is a great resource for knitters of any skill level! This book is chock full of a variety of stitch patterns, from a very simple, sturdy pattern to very light and airy lace like patterns. The book has such a large variety of options, it will be difficult to choose just one.

I envision making a sampler afghan using blocks of these stitches after some practice. The patterns are well written and easy to follow, using standard knitting terms. There are many mulit-color options, too. They are mosaic looking and very nice.

I am eager to get some yarn on my needles and start stitching several of these patterns soon. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to add some variety to the knitting or wants to learn some new techniques.

I'd say this book is a solid book of stitches, a mix of cables, lace, and color work. I like that there is a new stitch pattern everyday for a whole year. You can use it to hone your skills but I also think this would be fun to use to make a patchwork blanket. All in all a good book for knitters of all skill levels to have on their shelf.

A Yesr of Knitting Stitches by Tabetga Hedrick

A helpful book as I've just started relearning how to knit. Some good beginner stitches but more advanced as you go through.

This is a great calendar for anyone who loves yarn. I was excited to have the opportunity for an ARC and while it's definitely harder on the kindle, I will purchase a physical copy when it's released for my personal gift giving.

Most knitters love trying out new stitches, so I was excited to review this calendar. My knitting group has really enjoyed helping me test a few stitches and helping each other overcome any problems on the way.
We chose patterns according to our birthdates, then we decided to make a few squares for a blanket when all sewn together.
We had to use the internet quite frequently for the following reasons.
To check out the suggested wool, and find substitutes if not readily available.
We had to get used to tension squares, we normally just read a pattern and full steam ahead!
There were no suggestions for the needle sizes, we visited a few sites for help.
We had to calculate stitch counts, that involved maths !
Qiviut, boy did we have to conjure up our inner David Attenborough for this one, there aren’t many musk ox in rural Norfolk!
Some abbreviations were puzzling, and provided much head scratching. Thank goodness for the abbreviations section at the back!
Some sample stitches would have made beautiful scarves and shawls, they had lovely tapered edges.
The cowl pattern is so feminine, and there are great examples of fan and feather stitch work.
This would make a lovely gift in book form. The kindle version that I had, was black and white illustrations only, which made the charts difficult to pick up. I gave this a four star rating.

This is a great book to use to learn new stitch patterns and would probably make a great gift for someone who is just taking up knitting. I like that it provides a new pattern for each day and I think this could be a fun way to use up scrap yarn that you have left over from other projects. You could make a whole blanket of one of the stitches do a bunch of granny squares of the various patterns and then sew them together. I'm really excited to try my hand at some of these stitches. I have a few baby blankets I need to make and I think I will try using one of these patterns.

This little gem is wonderful for learning new stitches and expanding your knowledge of knitting through out the year. It would also be a great guide to design a blanket, sweater, scarf or any item with the stitches shown. Many of the stitches are appropriate for new knitters and some would be best for experienced, but there are so many that anyone would not have difficulty making them as swatches or into a project and having plenty to do. I would recommend this book and will likely be buying a hard copy for myself. I received a digital copy through NetGalley, and would not recommend a digital copy because it is difficult to navigate.

Except that the stitches aren’t named A Year of Knitting Stitches is the newest in the perpetual calendars for knitters. New and revisited stitches are always a welcome edition to any knitter’s reference collection.
