Another great instalment in this series. Alice Eclair excels at baking and so uses her creations as a cover for carrying out spying missions. In this story she hides in plain sight on a film set to find out who is the mystery person selling spies to the enemy.

I loved the setting of Paris and the range of different characters in the story - it wasn’t easy to guess who was the spy (even as an adult reader of this middle grade story).

Lots of adventure and action kept me reading throughout and I think this story would appeal to lots of young readers - will definitely be recommending it!

Claude gives Alice a new assignment - one that is interrupted at the very time by Alice's traitor Uncle, who is stealing secrets from France. Again, set between the wars Alice is tasked with getting onto a film set in Versailles. The trouble is she has a sidekick - Pierre - and he is quite appallingly behaved to Alice who he very much sees an inferior!
Unfortunately he gets himself hired first - as hairdresser on set. But is he all that he seems?
Alice however does get hired the minute the director Glen Carmine - who is suspected of being the main spy leaking details of French agents positions - sees her cakes. They have cakes but they aren't real and he thinks they look silly if they can't be eaten by the actors.
The main actor is Catrine Belle, but she isn't all that she seems either.
Alice's devotion to her job as a spy is tested to the limit when her life is in danger more than once. But she finds a friend and ally in Milton, Glen Carmine's nephew.
Can she find the spy? Is Claude targeting the right person?
This book is as fun as all Alice's other adventures. If only the cakes came with the book because it really makes you want to bake! I was really looking forward to it and hoped for a real copy but thanks to NetGalley and Nosy Crow I have read it. Now when is the next instalment? I want to see Alice meet Uncle Robert again!

The Alice Eclair books are such fun! In this tale, Alice is baking for a film set, whilst trying to catch a thief and uncover a spy. It's a good thing she can multitask!

Alice is an exceptionally skilled baker who turns pastries into intricate pieces of art. She is though first and foremost a spy and very passionate about protecting France from harm. The story is set in Paris between the two world wars. A map of the mountains has gone missing and the locations of secret agents and their radio equipment have been exposed. The suspects are believed to be linked to a film cast and crew filming at the Palace of Versailles.

The characters are carefully created and there is a range of suspects, red herrings and sub plots. There is growing tension in the plot as the story unfolds and Alice’s life is threatened. The pace of the story is excellent with a thrilling climax.

The descriptions of the Palace of Versailles and its grounds are delivered with great attention to detail as are the winter scenes in Paris. There are also some interesting snippets of information such as the language of flowers and the workings of a film set.

This is the third book in the series and there are hints as to the possible exciting story line in book four. I would highly recommend this book and this series to young readers.

the third in this fantastic series is about to hit the bookshelves and it is brilliant. The series just keeps getting better as we get to know and understand our heroine. The author has really created the atmosphere of Paris in that period and makes the reader feel truly at home. I am totally hooked by Alice's adventures and look forward to many more of them; not forgetting the cakes.

The children have voted this book the best summer read. We have read a lot of books during the school holidays but this was definitely the one they got most excited over. We have read and very much enjoyed the previous books but this stands up well against the others previously read. An exciting and fun series.

Warning: Do not read this on an empty stomach! If you're going to read about a French spy, whose day job is as a baker (mmm, patisserie!), you know it's a good idea to have some delicious snacks at hand while you read.

This time around, Alice is supplying her baked goods to a movie set based in the opulent surroundings of Versailles. Marie Antoinette may have been misquoted, but there is plenty of cake on offer here - and plenty of drama too!

But with such a wide cast of characters, it is hard to know who to be suspicious of. Fortunately, Alice is also experienced in using her professional (bakery) skills for the needs of her other profession.

This is a fun adventure, with plenty of action and entertainment. Not to mention - or have I mentioned it already? - some excellent sustenance for body as well as soul...

Lights, Camera, Action!

Alice is once again on the case as a dangerous spy is believed to be hiding in plain sight amongst the cast and crew of a new movie being filmed at the Palace of Versailles. Paris is in the grips of winter as the young agent begins her new assignment. Once again, using her real-life persona to get where she needs to be Alice is making sweet treats for the leading lady as a way to get on set to investigate anyone behaving the least bit suspiciously.

With another spy seemingly out to discredit her, Alice needs to be on her guard as she snoops around, trying to discover who is giving away secrets and jeopardising the safety of her fellow agents. Her life is in danger from someone who is one step ahead of her at all times but with no idea who that is, has Alice finally bitten off more than she can chew?

This is the third book in Sarah Todd Taylor's wonderful series and is as good, if not better, than its predecessors. The location is full of wonderful snippets of information and the film set is awash with clues, red herrings, and interesting characters, none of whom I singled out as the culprit until far too late to claim any type of success in solving everything before Alice! With a tantalising hint about what might happen next at the end, I am already looking forward to Book four.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Nosy Crow, but the opinions expressed are my own. I happily recommend it to readers aged 8 and above.

A SPRINKLING OF DANGER is another 1930s spy-caper full of baking. This time, it adds a flavouring of Hollywood and the palace of Versailles!

By shooting a movie about Marie-Antoinette in Versailles, this entry manages to pull not only the 1930s tensions of a pre-WW2 Europe and Hollywood into it but also the pre-Revolution era too. It's a luscious combination of history that could (and do) have many books of their own.

I love how these books keep finding ways to put Alice's baking skills at the heart of them. I wouldn't have thought it would be such a useful skill for a spy, but it clearly is for Alice! It takes this skill that is often seem as feminine and makes it the perfect thing for adventures and mysteries.

And speaking of mysteries! I am once again impressed by how many layers, red herrings, and leads there are in such a short book. It's a really taut mystery, with so many moving parts, and yet it doesn't feel compressed or rushed by the short page count.

There's also a lot more danger this time, with Alice's life on the line. It's so tense at points, a race against time to find the traitor before they finish off Alice herself.

I really hope there are more books to come - it's so much fun, mystery and adventure and danger!

This is a story about Alice who is a baker by day, special agent by night (more or less, she is actually a bit of both at all times). This time the story is set in the Palace of Versailles. So, it has that exotic and glamorous feel to it that is common in spy movies.

I think my students would enjoy this book as it is fun and full of adventures.

This is the third book in this series about Alice Éclair, she’s a baker and a spy. It’s a great children’s book that’s full of mystery and great adventures. This book is set in Paris in a palace where Alice finds herself a job as a baker for a film set, but she’s also on a mission. Will see succeed?

This book is engaging and will keep a child’s interest as it’s fun and exciting. Alice is great to read about as are the other characters. The cat is also a fun addition.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
