This story is told from 4 different POV’s Evan (husband, father, and cop), Lola (wife/mother), Jessica (daughter), and Arial (housekeeper). Evan and Jessica Warner have just lost their wife/mom Lola and are learning how to live without her. Although the circumstances of her death were “deemed” an accident it’s insinuated that may not be the case. You hear from Evan and how he is trying to keep everything so close and not wanting to let a secret he is keeping out. Lola kept a diary that she reads throughout the story talking about her marriage with Evan fell apart. Evan needed some help around the house with the cooking, cleaning, and laundry so he decided to hire some help.
Ariel takes a new job as a house keeper working for the Warner household. Ariel makes it clear in the beginning of the story to the readers that she is there to get close to Jessica to protect her. She was close to or knew Lola in the past, but it’s unclear in the beginning how. She wants to get close to Jessica, but neither Evan nor Jessica make it easy for her. Arial believes that Lola was murdered and wants to prove it.
I listened to The Wife in the Photo by Emily Shiner and wow was it good. It took me a minute to get into it, but once I did I had to know what happened. So many twists and turns all the way up until the very end. Read this book if you like psychological thrillers, split personalities, multiples POV’s, family secrets, and lots of twists and turns. Thank you to Bookoutre Audio and NetGalley for letting me listen to this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Meh is my feeling on this one…a few twisty turns especially at the end but I had this one figured out quickly. It went a bit off the rails at the end but that didn’t improve my rating. Thank you netgalley for the arc!

This story is really good and gripping until the twist towards the end which I can’t really go into too many details without giving too many spoilers, but it’s totally random and could really have been written in a more believable way.
Apart from that the actual ending is also pretty good as the rest of the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me review this audiobook for an honest review.

I really wanted to like The Wife in the Photo, but this one fell short for me. I think it was more personal & I just wasn't feeling the narrator. Some of the characters really got on my nerves but I pushed through. The ending was alright. I felt like it was lacking something. Again, this is just my perspective & this book just wasn't for me currently.
I'll give Emily Shiner another chance & read a book I already picked up.
*Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

I loved the different points of view from this, jumping from one perspective to another, of the same situation at times was very captivating. A fantastic read if you like page-turning thrillers!
What starts out as a story of a family grieving their wife and mother quickly takes a darker turn, with more twists than I was prepared for! Evan, the rigid police officer father, and Jessica, the teenage daughter with a rebellious streak, hire a housekeeper who is keeping more than one secret. Turns out everyone in this book has something to hide from each other. It will keep you guessing till the very end!

The Wife in the Photo is a definite twisty read. This was really fast paced and kept my attention. I managed to figure out all of the twists that were coming but I still enjoyed the book. I will say that some of the twists and scenes toward the end were a little far-fetched for me. Thank you so much to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for sending me this book for review!

A questionable accident, the daughter holds a secret, the father is an abusive cop, and the mother is now dead! What really happened? What is the daughter hiding? How can this be solved if the father is a cop?
The husband, Evan Warner, and his wife were arguing on the deck. His wife suddenly falls down the deck stairs breaking her neck. Although Evan calls for help through 911, he simultaneously discovers that his teenage daughter, Jessica witnessed the event from her bedroom window. Evan must make it right! In order to adjust to the loss of his wife, he decides to hire a housekeeper. Unknowingly, he welcomes his wife’s best friend who is suspicious of the circumstances. But if she is caught? What will happen to her?
The narrators Todd Kramer and Kate Handford really made this mystery/thriller intense. I found myself frozen in the task I was attempting to complete (laundry, dishes, etc.) as I lived the story experiencing the dilemma, Jessica’s intense fear and panic, and Evan’s frustration and rage. I found myself calling out to the housekeeper to hurry as she searched for evidence. Their narration was smooth, with excellent rate and tonality that drew you in.
Overall, I loved this book. The book kept me on the edge of my seat and the ending….Wow! I never would have guessed! Threw me right through a loop.
I recommend this book to Adult General Fiction, Mystery, Thriller, and even psychological thriller lovers.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and Emily Shiner for providing this free copy for my review. All opinions are my own. Thank you.

This book was okay. I guessed the big plant twist before I was even half done with the book. By 90% done I was pretty over the story.

Police Chief, Evan Warner has recently lost his wife, Lola. To help run the house, provide meals and look after tea age daughter, Jessica, the Warner household take on home help and Ariel is employed. Ariel makes a great impact of keeping the house clean, but becomes clear that there is a huge ulterior motive for Ariel wanting to be in the Warmers household. Ariel is looking for proof to back her suspicions.
A domestic suspense thriller, full of twists and turns. Some aspects of the ending took an unrealistic turn which let the overall rating down for me. But remains an entertaining read.

I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrators, very distinct voices for the characters. Easy to hold my interest and I loved all the twists and turns,

Wowza!!! What an ending!!! Not going to ruin my review with spoilers but will say my head was spinning!
I listened to this on audio and narration was great, easily distinguishable different voices for Evan, Ariel and the diary readings. So easy to follow and flowed very well.
I did find some of the writing repetitive and felt there could have been a little better editing on that perspective. Solid storyline, relatable developed characters, made me want to keep reading and had to know what happened. Overall 4 stars and would definitely read more by this author!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is the second book I've read by this author, I had liked "You Can't Hide", but this new book, I didn't ruin my nails because they are gel, otherwise they would be ruined for sure, because this story makes even the strongest biting theirnails out.
I could emphasize that the main themes of the story are adultery and the death of some characters, but I don't think that would do it justice. For me it's a story about the power of manipulation. How blind we are when we love and don't see how much we are being manipulated. Lola discovered this manipulation in the worst possible way. I invite all thriller fans to read this book and tell me what you think. It won't be a waste of time, I assure you.
Thank you Netgalley for offering this book.

I'm recently dipping my toe into the world of audiobook fiction, primarily because I'm commuting again after a number of years. This book was a really good intro - an enjoyable twisty thriller that was easy to listen to without my mind drifting off and getting distracted. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced audio copy!

This book had a lot of twists and turns! It will keep you reeling for sure! I will say it is predictable but if you are the type to like predictable mysteries then this book is for you. I think because the book was too predictable that I ended up not liking it too much unfortunately. There was a great plot and it did have a rollercoaster of plot turns but it still didn't appeal to me too much.
I did read this book via audiobook. The narrator did very well pacing and keeping you hooked! For me, the audio wasn't the clearest but that could also be due to the status of an ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for gifting me this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I couldn’t have been a whole hour in before I screamed THE DAUGHTER DID IT. That being said there were a few good twists which I was happy to see after knowing who did it the whole time. The motivations weren’t pushed well and didn’t seem to be “enough”? to justify everything. There were no likeable characters which I can get into sometimes if they’re side is extreme and I can try to put myself in their mindset or hate them so much that I kinda like em. That all being said, I did like it enough to finish it.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house, the narrator and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this audiobook in return for a review baesed upon my honest opinion.
This was a great audiobook. I loved the narrator, they did a great job and the intonation was enjoyable. The author had an intereresting storyline with all kinds of twists and turns. I love a book where you think you might know the answer but aren't sure and then you are wrong, but right all at the same time. I was hooked right from the first chapter.

This is the second book in a row that was a wild ride. This might be the ultimate popcorn thriller. Again this starts as a regular psychological thriller, but the more I read, the more I was drawn in, then surprised where this one kept going. I suspected one of the twists, then doubted it, then suspected it again… But ultimately this had a heck of a twist that I did not suspect. And I’d say pulling one over on me was not easy, but it seems I am either slipping or the authors are getting better at hiding what is coming.
Deep multi-layered characters that are grieving the loss of their wife and mother. I wasn’t really sure I liked anyone nor whether I could trust anyone. All of them gave off an unreliable vibe, but that is also the norm for this type of book.
If you are a fan of twisty, keep you guessing books, this one has to be on your TBR. It stays at a nice even pace, but when I finished I was left contemplating what I had just read. I think Emily Shiner is one I will need to add to my list of reliable popcorn thrillers authors along with Freida McFadden and Daniel Hurst. Always wickedly fun to read and pushing the boundaries of where I think it is heading.
I both listened and read this one and can’t decide which version I liked more. Todd Kramer and Kate Handford’s narration let the story shine and kept me engaged and wanting more along with the plot. I am becoming such a fan of dual narration for dual POVs. The two of them did a fantastic job.
If you need a book to start off your spooky season, you should pick this one up. Because what could be scarier than people themselves.

Although I did predict part of the ending pretty early on, I really enjoyed this book. I loved how it incorporated multiple POVs as well as diary entries throughout the story. It is a very well thought out thriller with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end!

This thriller will take you on a wild ride! All the different POV's will make you question everything you read! I love an unreliable narrator!
This quick read definitely sucked me in really fast! I loved how all the characters were written and all the twists and turns! I was able to figure out the first murder suspect but nothing could prepare me for that ending! I really hope we get another book with these characters so I have a sense of closure!
This was my first Emily Shiner read, and I will be immediately adding the rest of her books for my TBR pile!

Thank you NetGally and Emily Shiner for the advanced copy!
A slow start ended up becoming a fast paced, super engaging thriller. Great narrator in the audiobook!
Chief of Police. Wife murdered. He’s the suspect, but did he do it? How far will a father go to protect the ones he loves? Who is truly evil and who is, in fact, decent? The different perspectives for each chapter kept me on my toes and it ended with a little Verity-type twist. Sort of. Overall definitely a solid read 4/5 stars!
