Oh my god! This book is outstanding! One of the best I have read! Literally from the minute I picked this up I was hooked. Loved the characters so much, they reminded me of me and my sisters. Just fantastic! I’ll definitely be reading more from this author!

Under Your Spell is a spellbinding, laugh out loud, romantic comedy that is full of warmth and sisterly love. An absolute great read that had me nearly wetting my pants with laughter!

Clemmie, Lil and Serena cast a break up spell when they were 17 years old and it came true. Now several years later, following Clemmie's recent break up to Len, the sisters come together to cast another spell for Clemmie and wish for a great job, hot sex and everlasting love.

The three sisters cannot believe it when the spell begins to work again and love enters all of their lives, but Clemmie has to learn to let go of her past and dig deep to realise the man whom has become her best friend isn't like all the other men in her life as he truly loves her,

This book absolutely delivered on its premise and more. I wasn't expecting to laugh so much, but so many moments were hilarious (a moment for David's emails...). All future Shepherds Bush gigs have a lot to live up to. If you loved Mhairi McFarlane's WHO'S THAT GIRL (which I did, no surprises) then this is absolutely for you. I really enjoyed and can't wait to read more adult romances from Laura Wood!

I adore Laura Wood's writing, her earlier books sit alongside my other favourite comfort reads by Eva Ibbotson, Dodie Smith and Emily Henry on my bookshelf. Under Your Spell, the first book she has written solely for adults, is the story of Clemmie, who as the daughter of an unreliable rockstar has an aversion to the spotlight and a deep distrust of all things rock and roll. When she has an encounter with Theo Elliot and he turns out to be a very famous musician indeed, her safely contained world is changed in all sorts of ways... This novel is a total delight: romantic, funny and deeply comforting- all the best things.

I am fully expecting this to be my favourite book read in 2023. Everything about it is just perfect and I loved every second spent in Clemmie and Theo's world.

I loved Clemmie and her unusual family. Seeing the dynamic between the sisters especially was a joy. I loved the romance between Clemmie and Theo and seeing how it developed. Theo is a particularly gorgeous romantic hero and I loved him entirely.

If you loved Paige Toon's Johnny Jefferson you are going to love Theo Eliott even more.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Holy god I LOVED this book. The relationship between the sisters is charming and so lovable, the characters are witty, interesting and engaging. The magical element to the romance is just the cherry on the cake. I adored this story, and look toward to the authors future releases.

I really enjoyed this story! The characters were vivid and lovable and I loved the whimsy of the spell element that gave it a little something more unique.

There is great humour, a really lovely strong sisterly bond and a rockstar male main character, what more could you want from a romance novel!

My reason for 4 stars is that the characters were written to be in their 30s and 40s and did seem probably around ten years younger than that to me. This definitely didn’t detract from the book though and it’s absolutely well worth a read!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my review.

Utter perfection ✨

I laughed so much I cried on multiple occasions and I genuinely couldn't stop reading. This is romance at its very best.

It's sisterhood, magic and music, laugh-out-loud funny and seriously HOT. I've already preordered a finished copy because I loved it so much.

Laura Wood is one of my favourite authors and I will auto-buy anything she releases without even needing to read the blurb. I love her YA, but I really hope she writes more contemporary adult romance too - Under Your Spell was incredibly special.

I remember after reading Laura Wood's first YA novel, how swiftly I decided she would be one of those authors whose books I would purchase immediately and without question, just knowing I would love them. So I was very excited to be approved to read her first adult novel on NetGalley - thank you for that.
This book was pure joy from beginning to end. The characters are vivid, loveable, memorable people I could picture immediately. I especially adored the power of the three-sister dynamic and the strong bond that Clementine has with (the female members of) her unusual family. It is genuinely hilarious - I was reading that funeral scene on a train, while wearing a mask, and I really think some of my fellow passengers were concerned for me, thinking I might be weeping under my mask - when really I could not help stifled giggles at the SatNav moment. i wanted to pull my mask off and explain I was laughing not crying but I couldn't look away from the story. Also the satirical look at the lives of the rich and pampered was very well judged, balanced with the horrible privacy-invasion story line. I was really delighted to see a heroine with a beautiful but ordinary-sized curvy body, too. Even though the reader can guess where the narrative might take us, it was done with such a light touch, such humour and real heart. This novel feels like what we all need just now: blissful escape, romance and proper laughter. It has only cemented my determination to read everything this wonderful author writes.

This might just be my perfect book- certainly the perfect book for me right now and I binged it all in 24 hours.

I haven't read any of Laura's books before but was tipped off by Sarra Manning on instagram (whose books and taste I love) and I'm so glad I found it here on netgalley.

It has EVERYTHING I could ask for in a romantic comedy/romance. Strong female lead, fabulous supporting cast, smart and funny dialogue, sizzling chemistry and one of my very favourite tropes- hot famous male lead. I thought Clemmie and her sisters had a great backstory and while the plot is a stretch (I don't care), the characters all felt very real to me and had real depth. And while there have been other books and films with a similar basic plot, Laura Wood's writing really elevates this novel above and beyond.

A truly dreamy read that I would recommend to anyone who loves Beth O'Leary, Sarra Manning, Mhairi McFarlane (particularly Who's That Girl) or Emily Henry. Thanks #netgalley and indeed Sarra Manning for the tip and I will now be searching out Laura's YA novels!

I was thrilled to discover that one of my favourite YA authors Laura Wood was writing adult contemporary romantic fiction and my hopes were incredibly high for this book. I decided to read a few chapters yesterday but ended up wandering around my house with my Kindle all afternoon unable to put it down, so much so that I slightly overcooked (okay burnt) dinner. This book was everything I hoped it would be. Laura has a talent for creating characters that you can't help but fall in love with and you inevitably get completely wrapped up in their lives. I loved the dynamics between the 'weird sisters' who have this amazing bond despite their rather unconventional upbringing under the spotlight. Their sisterly love provides many moments of hilarity and downright loveliness as these three go into battle for each other. It's really refreshing to see such solid characterisation outside of the main protagonists Clemmie and Theo. For the reader it solidifies the story and makes the characters so much more real as we see them through the eyes of their families.

Now for Clemmie and Theo. Oh my! I love how Laura sets up the characters first meeting and then you get this horrible feeling where you want to hide behind a cushion and cringe later on - I can't say too much without being spoilery but it's definitely a aaarrrrgggghhhhh moment! She cleverly builds up their relationship - as they're thrown together in a tiny cottage in the middle of nowhere - so that the reader is desperate for more. I may or may not have shouted at the book once or twice and demanded that they 'just get on with it', the sexual tension is unbearable at times. It has the feel of a Jane Austen novel at times, all those highly charged glances between the characters and Theo being shirtless and irresistible feels very Darcy like in the Colin Firth adaptation style. Every time you think they're close to finally getting together, Laura throws a massive curve ball in their way. It's a real rollercoaster of a ride for them and the reader. Both Clemmie and Theo are flawed and relatable despite the lives they lead, they make mistakes but they learn along the way - which I loved.

What I particularly loved was the comedic elements of the book that are brilliantly woven into the story. I laughed out loud so many times that my husband asked 'are you okay?'. One of my favourites is right at the beginning at the funeral, it made me instantly realise that Clemmie was someone I could totally identify with. These moments add an element of lightness to what is at time a tough story to read as we gradually learn more about Clemmie's past.

I have read a ton of contemporary romantic fiction and this one stands out from the crowd. It is fresh and original in the way that Emily Henry and Beth O' Leary books are within this genre but it has something else that makes it different. Clemmie and Theo's romance has the epic feel of a Jane Austen romance, the whole simmering tension between them and the turmoil that they are put through along the way. By developing such an interesting cast of characters to surround them the reader feels like you're being giving a glimpse into their lives so that they don't actually feel fictional at all.

This book is so wonderful and gorgeous, I cannot recommend it enough. Laura once again has swept me away and I loved every minute of it. What an incredible adult debut,! Definitely one to watch!
