I really enjoyed the premise of this book. Cursebreaker and archaeologist enemies to lovers? Incredible. However, the execution fell short for me.

As always, Rosie Danan really did a great job of building the chemistry of these characters. I really believed they were into each other, but I didn't believe they were falling in love. It was all just.

Overall, I didn't think this was a bad book, but it didn't reach it's full potential.

Thanks to NetGalley, Rosie Danan and the Little Brown Book Group for the free e-arc. All opinions are my own.

This book has a lot of funny banter (enemies to lovers). It's a slow burn between the characters & does have spice. I didn't feel the connection between the two main characters, but the story still worked.

The book's only downside is that the two main characters got on my nerves, feeling sorry for themselves.

This book was entertaining but there was something missing for me, maybe in the pacing maybe in just how it was put together but it alternated between really interesting and quite boring.

I really enjoyed this one! Definitely more than I expected to. Whilst is was slow in some places, I found myself still wanting to read on. It was a fun, lighthearted read, I loved the two main characters and the chemistry between them was incredible.

Actually loved this in the end. I had to wait until it was released on KU due to format issues but it was a freakin delight.

I had a really good time with this one. The two leads had a great dynamic and seeing them go from the good first meeting only for it then to turn into a rivals to lovers storyline was great.

Amazing book!
I was thoroughly engaged throughout this book and I didn't want to put it down! The author captured my attention from the get go! Five stars from me :)

A curse breaker and a disgraced archeologist find themselves together, stuck on assignment in a haunted castle in the Scottish Highlands. If that doesn't sound like the perfect set-up for a romance, then I don't know what else would.

This was a very fun light read. Not much emotional depth to the romance, it's definitely more physical, but the chemistry between the two main characters is incredible. There were a few slow-moving parts and at this point I feel the whole "parallel story foretelling the main story" device has been done often enough to come across as quite gimmicky. But this was still a very solid romcom, with just enough supernatural elements to keep things interesting.

Unfortunately this was most definitely a clash of personal tastes with this one. The overall premise was really interesting - an archaeologist and a curse breaker working together in the Scottish Highlands. However this felt a lot like those 'witchy', cosy paranormal romances that have been coming out in droves in recent years, and which are most definitely not for me. I didn't find the romance between Riley and Clark to be particularly interesting or unique, if anything it's a bit rushed and overall lacking in chemistry with none of the angst, actual enemies to lovers drama I normally enjoy. Because of this I found that I just didn't really feel invested in the story or plot.

The writing is good, and the premise is promising but the character development and romance was too rushed for me.

I ADORED this book!
I am absolutely in love with the witchy small town vibes! It’s a light hearted romance but it’s not without some comedic elements!
I cannot recommend it enough if to love enemies to lovers with some forced proximity and magic!

Riley is a curse breaker hired to break a curse on a scottish castle. Then she meets Clarke, an arceologist and sceptic who tries to get her fired as soon as she arrives. There is an attraction between them, but they both want the other one gone. Throw in the curse, and who knows what will happen.

As a Rosie Danan fan, I had high hopes for this one and was not disappointed. This was a light-hearted romance with some comedy thrown in. Add an ememies to lovers romance, and im sold. I had a fun time reading this.

Look, if you’re after an accurate depiction of rural Scotland and Celtic cultures in a romance setting this is not the book for you but it is incredibly fun if you can look past it. This book is fun and a little bit silly with the cursed castle aspect, it’s a truly great rom com if you don’t take the mythology or cultural depiction too seriously.

Enemies to Lovers - check
Forced proximity - check
Curses and magic - check

I don't know what else you would want in this romance novel, I loved every second of it. I would describe this as a cross between Outlander and A Discovery of Witches. The slow burn enemy to lovers was pulled off really well and could feel the growing chemistry between them.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved the idea of this story but something about the execution just didn’t quite work for me personally. It was quite long with a lot of drawn out monologues. But as I say, the story itself is great, I loved the characters and the mystery with the curse.

While I haven't read Rosie Danan's first book, that everyone loves, I was really intrigued by this different take on a traditional romance.
First of all, I really enjoyed the way that this was written - it was a fun, light read that I sped through.
There were some surprisingly funny moments too.
I also liked the Scottish connection and lore, especially as a Scot myself.
I could have done with more enemies to lovers before they got together, plus the pacing was a bit slower at times, but I still liked it overall.
I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for what Rosie Danan does next.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rosie Danan is an absolute joy! I loved her previous books and when I saw this I was so intrigued by the premise of this book. If you enjoy light hearted writing that builds characters beautifully, shows the complexities of humans and their flaws with romance thrown in- this is for you. This was fun! What a great book!

Another Danan delight.

I really like Rosie's writing, she manages to submerge you immediately into the story and the level of sass she writes it always right up my street.
I liked the paranormal addition to this storyline as it made it feel a little different to her other works. I loved the characters. I loved that it chucked you straight in with their chemistry sizzling before she put a spanner straight in the works. Clever.

Great plot, great characters, great book!

I loved this book! Such a good fun light read, I genuinely read this book in one sitting! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book.

This was a fun book! I enjoyed the originality of the concept, as although there's been a massive surge in magic-centred romances, the curse-breaking element of this made it feel unique enough, especially with the setting of this crumbling castle and an archaeologist male love interest. I enjoyed the curse element, and how it seemed as though the house was literally bringing Riley and Clark together. I believed in the chemistry between these two main characters, and how there wasn't a huge amount of pretending to hate while secretly falling - the pacing of the change from hate to love was pretty quick, however. I also thought the plot was pretty predictable, which isn't necessarily a huge criticism, but I wasn't completely gripped by the story because of this. I'd heard good things about Danan's other novel, The Roommate, but I probably won't go back and pick it up on the basis of Do Your Worst.

"Two things are bound into repetition, Gran had written, history and curses."

GENRE: RomCom with a dash of Fantasy
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐/5
FORMAT: eBook Arc
Would I recommend to others?: Yes, to those who would like a quick but lovely read that they can enjoy in between heavy books!

Review:
Do Your Worst is one of those books you pick up between two heavy books and you get a breather. I honestly quite enjoyed it & while a 3 star may be low to others, that is a book I did enjoy but was not life altering. Sometimes I find myself reaching for a book that I know it would be a three star but it is a comfort read.

I loved how Do Your Worst was a light read but still addressed some deep themes about self discovery and learning how to accept ourselves, even in the midst of a family that makes you feel like the black sheep.

If you've read my previous reviews, you would know that due to losing my grandmother in 2023, any book that mentions a loss related to this always hits so close to home for me. I loved hearing about Riley and her relationship with her grandmother when she was younger and when she says this quote, I relate to it on a whole other level as even though I am older than Riley was when she lost her grandmother, dont we all have questions we wish to ask our loved ones that are no longer around, whether it be for another recipe or about their lives?
“I still wish almost every day that I could ask her a question, get her advice.”

Again, this book was an excellent light breather between heavy books. The story of Riley and Clark developed in a lovely pace and I didnt feel as if the romance was rushed. It also felt like it could happen in real life but had so many coincidence which were a reference to the curse that was going on.

Thank you to NetGalley for an Arc copy for my honest opinion.
