This book had me smiling at the sun, pun intended. But really, the poetry in this book was amazing. And I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I can see children and parents alike loving this book and reading it together. Wow, what a great way to bring sunshine into someone's world.

This is just one of the most delightful poetry books I have come across in a long time. It is wild, whimsical and quite wonderful, eminently suitable for children and misidentified adults alike - indeed a must for the latter!

A fun book of 82 poems similar to those of Shel Silverstein. Overall I really liked the poems. A few were just okay. The illustrations are cute but seem a little old fashioned. I like the poems that have life lessons and also the poems with surprise endings. My favorites are "Words" and "Grammy Hands".

A delightful collection of verses that captures the essence of childhood in a playful and insightful manner. With each poem, Lawson brings to life the simple joys, misadventures, and everyday marvels that make growing up such a magical journey. The collaboration between Lawson's clever wordplay and Netta Jones' enchanting illustrations creates a whimsical atmosphere that is sure to captivate both young readers and those who are young at heart.

"I Smile at the Sun" is not just a children's book; it's a celebration of life's little wonders that will resonate with readers of all ages.

Thank you NetGalley and DiAngelo Publications for the ARC! All opinions are my own. Immediately when I opened Judith Barret Lawson's book I Smile at The Sun, I was brought back to my childhood! The use of drawn images as well as the format remind me of the Shel Silverstein books from when I was growing up. My favorite poem in the book would have to be "Goodbye," as the eldest child who moved hundreds of miles away from my family, it reminds me of my journey in doing so. I agree with Lawson that "each poem is a celebration of life," we all have very different outlooks on life, and I think poems are a beautiful way to showcase that. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children who loves poetry, as well as adults who loved Shel Silverstein growing up.

Most of the offerings will leave you with a smile on your face. Particularly because of the punchline that the poet commonly delivers in the final segment of many poems.

There are poems like the Trampoline Queen, Simon Says, and the Chocolate Fiend, which overflow with humour. You will learn how to deal with people like Christina the Copycat and the Me-Me Bird (and be profoundly grateful if you aren't one!) You will come across some interesting characters, from the rather dark situation of Murray M to the life of the boy who refused to mow the lawn. Above all, you will be very happy that you did purchase this book! It gets 4.5 stars.
