As someone who's had insomnia since I was seven and didn't think to talk to a doctor about it until I was much older, I was interested in this nonfiction read to see how it compared to all the research I've done on my own. If you have insomnia and have spoken to a doctor or have done a lot of reading on it, then there are certainly many things in this work that will be familiar. But the author went in depth on all aspects included and provided a lot of background and research in the explanations so the work was still very informative. With each topic I was familiar with, I still learned something new.

Information in the book ranges from possible causes of insomnia to its possible treatments. Some of these topics include diet, exercise, alcohol consumption, and the best things to eat and avoid close to bedtime. There are also many actionable steps included, which is always greatly appreciated. There is an extensive list of references at the end of the work, which increased my confidence that this author put in the time to write a strong resource.

One thing that bothered me though is that there are a couple of places in the book that were only a page or two long, but were essentially the author being like "hey you should leave a good review for my book, it'll help other insomniacs, do it for them." I get doing this at the end of your book, I understand authors need high ratings and word of mouth to get their books read, but do not interrupt the book itself to say "you owe it to others like yourself to review my book." This dropped my rating as it really rubbed me the wrong way.

If you want to learn more about insomnia, possible causes, and possible treatments, then this is a solid resource. My thanks to NetGalley and Riverstone Media for allowing me to read this work. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I was hoping that this book would help with my chronic insomnia, the book had a lot of information that I already knew but there were some new tricks and tips that I didn’t know. It didn’t help me a great deal to be honest but it’s definitely worth a read as it may just help someone else.

Nothing new added to the subject. I was hoping for more assistance than the typical answers. Maybe I was expecting too much being an insomniac myself.

"Sleep is important. It heals you, recovers energy and sets you up for productivity."

As someone who has an up and down relationship with sleep this comprehensive guide to insomnia was very helpful. It didn't always tell me something new but rather reframed the concepts relating to sleep. It taught me a log about why I sleep so lightly and why being to warm causes me to wake up. I found the sleep assessment included within the book to be helpful. As someone who has explored the fixed vs growth mindset in a work setting, its interesting to consider this in relation to insomnia. I would have liked references as it allows for further insight where needed.

If you also struggle with sleep, then this book will likely be very helpful for you.
