Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group, NetGalley, and Bob Ross Inc. for the chance to absorb this incredible book. I grew up watching Bob Ross with my Dad and enjoyed his technique of painting. This book is a wonderful resource for anyone whether it’s children or adults that are interested in learning to paint. Beautiful work and this is one of those books that makes it easy for anyone interested in learning how to paint. I definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in painting.

Very neat. Written in graphic novel style. Basic instructions for creating your own masterpiece. Perfect for the older child or teen wanting to learn painting.

I really loved this book! It is filled with step by step instructions and illustrations for several Bob Ross paintings in kid friendly format! I loved the cartoon kids/Bob Ross who would give advice to the readers. The layout was very user friendly. Would totally recommend for anyone who wants to do a Bob Ross painting, but it is especially made for kiddos!

My kids and I love watching "The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross" reruns. To see his beautiful landscapes come to life before our very eyes is so inspiring it makes you want to jump up and give it a try yourself. And this book will help you do just that!

Painting with Bob Ross for Kids is the perfect book for beginners (young and old) who want to try their hand at realistic painted landscapes. I loved it just as much as my kids did!

This book has easy to follow instructions with helpful visuals for each step of each project. It guides you through ten different projects (including a snowy mountain, a desert, a beach at sunset, a waterfall etc.) and uses fun illustrations in addition to the progress photos, that young children will enjoy.

Thank you Netgalley and Quarto for my e-copy in exchange for my review!

I liked this book, but I am hesitant to promote or purchase it because the Bob Ross family has not made money off his name in the past and I am concerned they won't now. It is a good idea, but I don't trust it.

What a wonderful way to spend some time, painting pictures just like Bob Ross. Failing watching Bob on television, this book actually takes you step by step into his paintings and let's you have a lasting look at what each stage should represent instead of pressing pause on the TV and rewinding bits over again.
The scenes that are shown step by step are very well explained and should be easy enough for an older child (and adult alike) to follow. A gorgeous mix of scenic views and something for every taste.
Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Quarto Publishing for providing me with an e-ARC of Painting with Bob Ross for Kids!

Painting with Bob Ross for Kids really break down how to paint landscapes with a kid-friendly approach. The art, as can be expected, is magnificent! There are even little comic strips with a cartoon Bob Ross giving tips and inspiration!

Years ago I took a Bob Ross painting class. I loved it and enjoyed his style of painting. I bought many of his painting books throughout the years-which was obviously written with adults in mind. My young nieces love to draw and color. This book is the perfect gift for them to explore Bob’s techniques. The illustrations and explanations are very easy to follow. I also loved how the author included a pause symbol to allow the paint to dry/take a break. The lessons in this book were used with a Bob Ross kids kit which I didn’t know existed. Now I do and will happily buy the material along with this book for my nieces so they too can now enjoy the Bob Ross style of painting.

Well there’s no one like Bob Ross is there? He’s amazing to watch on tv and it’s hard to believe that those dots and slashes of paint can turn into an amazing landscape painting. This book breaks down 10 paintings in an easy to follow (not necessarily easy to do!) way so that children and adults can learn and try to paint something like the great man himself.

This is a tricky book for me to review. On the one hand, like just about everyone else in the world I'm a Bob Ross fan. And the 10 projects are well laid out, fairly simple, have lots of photos of the steps, and are likely to be fairly successful for kids (or even adults). The styles are pretty typical of Bob Ross -- mountains and tree, an occasional ocean or sunset, a cute little cabin, etc. Like the classic Bob Ross paintings, most of them are a little bit tacky (sorry!), though of few of them actually had colors that I liked better than the classic BR ones. I don't think the quality is nearly as good as Ross did, but they're also designed for kids to do and I wouldn't be sad if my child did a painting of this quality.

That said, my two main issues with the book are:

1. It reads like an ad a lot of the time. They recommend their Bob Ross brand paintbrushes, palette knives and paints -- Every. Single. Time. "Use your Bob Ross for Kids titanium white paint and your Bob Ross for Kids 1 inch palette knife...". Come on. Kids can just use a palette knife and some white paint. It seemed really money grubbing.

2. As most Bob Ross fans know, the company bearing his name and putting out all of this stuff has nothing to do with Ross or his family. His family has spoken out against them for years, even before the Netflix documentary shed light on the whole scandal recently. After reading about all the unpleasantness years ago, I've always made an effort *not* to buy products from the company that profits off of his image, name and legacy. That's just me, but I thought I'd put it out there.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.

🎨 This book is fantastic! I can’t draw stick figures, but I honestly believe I could follow the information in this book and paint a reasonable-looking landscape! I kinda want to try!

🎨 The instructions are very clear, and pictures are included on each step so readers understand exactly what they are supposed to do. See my slides for some page examples.

🎨 This book is targeted to children ages 6 to 8 years old, but anyone interested in learning how to paint could benefit from this book.

🎨 Pair this book with some brushes, paint, and a few blank canvases, and you will have a fantastic gift for the budding artist in your life.

Thank you @NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster for an eARC of this book, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I loved the imagery & layout of this book. Having a caricature of Bob, giving tips along the way, was a really cute addition - I'm sure it'll help a lot of kids work through their doubts on their abilities. The instructions were great, as clear as they can be without it being in video format. I love how it broke down each step. A nice collection of pictures to paint too. A whole lot of fun could be had with this book.

The instructions and exercises in this book seem very accessible and doable for young people. There is also nice variety in the guided painting projects, ranging from ocean waves to snowy landscapes. I am not a huge fan of the illustration style of Bob Ross and the other characters, but that is a personal point.

As a child, I used to enjoy watching Bob Ross and was always excited when a break in my cartoons and (yes I know) soap operas was timed with one of his instructional shows or even a few. And when we got a remote, it was great because I could hop between his painting show and whatever else interested me at the time.

So, for me, this was a bit of a trip down memory lane. I also read the book, though, with an eye to the target audience who are really young people learning how to paint landscapes. Sure, not everyone will want to paint a landscape, but the techniques are solid and really do lay a foundation for being able to paint anything.

I liked how the book focused on the art more than anything else, but that there were always little comic-type strips that went with each piece. The tips were fun, and the idea of taking a 10 minute break and marking it was also a great way to move through the techniques without getting too rushed. I also felt a little like Bob was talking to me when he offered guidance and spoke about his inspiration. Just felt very laid back, although also a bit over the top.

All in all, I think that this is a good book for a child or adult who wants to really get into painting. The tips and process are well laid out. I may just hazard that the book is probably for an older elementary school/middle schooler because it is definitely more advanced artwork. And the older the audience gets, the less they'll probably appreciate the kid tone.

Such a cute and fun book! I love Bob Ross and I can wait to start painting using this book. It’s meant for kids but maybe I can finally paint something correctly haha There are 10 different paintings to try. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

Wow!! This is a such a wonderful book! Bob would be proud. This book takes the magic that is Bob Ross and his painting style and breaks it down for children and includes beautiful photographs of the steps. The standard supplies have been replaced with kid-friendly substitutions which allow for the same techniques, but without the harsher chemicals found in oil painting. Love this book!!
